Bikes: Had a Surly Cross Check - was totaled in recent accident. Sadly now just a Fuji Crosstown as a backup bike.

Has anything changed in this area (insurance)
I'd be willing to pay 20-40$ a month for a good insurance policy that would cover me while riding a bike. From me accidently causing damage to someone/something - to someone uninsured hitting me, etc - my bike being stolen while locked to a rack, etc.
Has anything developed yet? I was told by one insurer a several months ago that I couldn't insure my bike on a renter's insurance because I enter events (not racing - but various centuries and organized rides). I never really pursued it further because I live in a really rural area.
Anything out there?

I think you need to talk to other agents. I don't see why you can't get a rider for a specific item on a renters policy or homeowners policy. If you have a car some of your activities might be covered under your MV insurance as well ( hit and run on a bike is covered under NYS no-fault for instance if you have it ).
The problem with insuring the bike it after deductible, how much will you get? I would check with a few other agents to get some more opinions, but I don't know how much you really need for these kids of activities that you should not already have.

When insurers start covering bikes used for commuting for theft then bike theft will be taken seriously, until then, not.

See that is the thing, I want a policy with 'actual cash value replacement'. I don't have a 10,000 dollar bike or anything, but I figure I've got 'almost' 2 grand in my bike now if I wanted to replace it and everything on it. It'd be nice not to be so paranoid with it everywhere I have to park it. I do lock it, etc. - but you know what I mean. . . (I hope).
