Brooks saddle and Uprights
 

I've got a hybrid that has an upright sitting position and a suspension seat post. In this situation would a Brook saddle be suitable, or are Brooks saddles better suited for a more aerodynamic riding position as with drop bars? I'm concerned that with an upright position, there would be more downward pressure and the hardness of the Brooks saddle wouldn't be comfortable. Thanks for your input.

Consider the bikes for which Brooks made saddles, from the 1860's until now. ;)

Some Brooks saddles are designed for upright; some are designed for les upright. I use a B67 with a German commuter bike, and it is perfect for this.

The bars on my drop-touring bike are 1-2 inches taller than the saddle. My B-72 is extremely comfortable in this setup. It is much more comfortable than any other saddle I've used.

I would second the B-72. Great saddle for a bike like that. A little springy, but not too much.

I see that the B 72 is a sprung saddle. Could I use it with a suspension post or does it require a rigid one?

Or try a B-68 - an unsprung saddle - quite comfortable on an upright bike

I have a B67 which I really like on my upright Breezer. Leather, springs and all. Its nice and comfy and the springs help absorb some shock, but they are stiff enough it doesn't feel like you're bouncing around.

I think that all of those saddles are probably quite wonderful, depending on your needs. I would not hesitate to buy one for an upright bike. The fact that many, many Raleigh 3 speeds had Brooks saddles as original equipment attests to their use.

One of the big differences is the springs. These are incompatible with some seat bags (see Peter White's blurb on Carradice bags which he does not recommend for use with sprung Brooks saddles).
