Have some more koolaid. Surly is part of the Quality Brand Products corporate conglomerate which includes Salsa, Problems Solvers, All City, etc. This is not a company of 20 people working out of brick building in the soho district. The whole Surly thing may be cool marketing, I appalaud the courage to be different, but it is as intentional as the fire red rims on your fixie.

Surly and their other small bike brands have absolutely benefited from the proximity to the industry, the product knowledge, and the distribution which comes from Q. But to dismiss it as a calculated corporate marketing shill is an uninformed opinion and frankly insulting to the dedicated bike nerds that invented, market, and ride the Surly brand every day. But trust me, they don't care what you think.

Don't get me wrong. I really like Surly. I like their bikes. I've had good experiences with their customer service (which has led me to believe that they do, in fact, care what I think). I even enjoy the clever commentary on their web site. That doesn't change the fact that the edgy attitude is part of their brand. |
Complete Bikes MSRP
Cross Check: $1099
Long Haul Trucker: $1099 Pugsley (snow blind white build) : $1550 Pacer: $1175 Big Dummy: $1840 Karate Monkey: $1050 Steamroller: $720-$799 Troll: ? Ogre: ?? Moonlander: ??? These are prices found online. The price for the CC is similar to what I paid at the LBS. Can anyone find information on the price of the Troll, Ogre, and Moonlander complete builds? Thanks |

Down with capitalism! Vive la revolution! But what I was actually saying is, don't buy things just because the company website seems cool. That said, I own a Surly. Love Surly as well. |

They really live the brand everyday and have fought for their independence. And yes indeed it is housed and was formed at QBP (Quality Bicycle Products BTW) which is not a corporate conglomerate but a privately held company that mainly distributes bike parts to shops in North America. The vast majority of employees at Q work on that effort.

I'll take a Artcrank Trek, thanks.

they could give their road forks a nicer curve. A bottle opener near the head tube or seat cluster would be nice.

I don't find Surly's marketing to be very appealing. It reads like they are trying a little too hard to be bike messengers or hipsters or something. However, I do have a Surly frame, and am very pleased with it.
