Well as some of you know I live in Appalachia and my commute is probably a lot different looking then others. It's very scenic, hilly, but unfortunately it's also along side a busy highway. 14.5 One way Commute. 29 mile Round Trip. Pros: Scenic, Mostly Peaceful (no Car horns constantly blaring), See random Squirrels, Rabbits, and other things along the way, able to shower and get ready at work. Three-Four Choices of stop along the way if I want to get something to drink in case I don't bring something with me. Cons: Very hilly, Must drive on a busy highway shoulder largest part of the way with coal trucks and 18 wheelers that go about 60 mph, Cycling is virtually no existent around here. This translates to no LBS, poor motorist education aka they are NEVER expecting a bike, like literally with no exaggeration I'm the only person to commute by bike this far out in my entire county. No bike lanes. Bicycles here are something children get on Christmas Day from Santa and they come from Walmart. In the city proper its slightly different but slightly. Anyway here are some pictures from the two commute routes I have. http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...7-14_512_1.jpg http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...5-46_481_1.jpg http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...6-29_121_1.jpg http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...ket_43707_.jpg Not part of the commute but about 2 miles from the house: http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...ket_43709_.jpg Some data on the commute: http://runkeeper.com/user/rickyhmltn/activity/54736978 |

The left turn towards home. This is the narrowest turn lane I've ever seen, barely wider than a bike lane. http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...roe_Street.jpg The other direction. This bridge is my route both ways. Fun. http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...n/IMG_0052.jpg There's supposedly a bike lane here. Riiiiiiiight. But sometimes I take a highway route. I mean hey, what's the worst that could happen. http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...n/IMG_0018.jpg http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...n/hwy195_2.jpg |
My favourite view on the entire route - on a sunny morning this view alone makes the ride worthwhile.

My year round 14 mile early morning reverse commute is from downtown Boston to a suburb through mostly intimate and interesting urban and suburban neighborhoods, on residential and light commercial streets. I don't take many road pictures, but I thought this view of the Harvard Medical School was interesting, the way the yellow line is positioned to bisect the columns of the building. The street is the Avenue Louis Pasteur taken from the vicinity of the Boston Latin School.

I'll have to get pictures of my commute. I come in on some very busy roads, but low speed urban roads.
