Sure hate being sick!!

Not only does the pile on my desk get deeper and deeper at work, I don't get to ride my bike to work! I've had to be out of the saddle since my ride on Saturday. I hate this! Will drive to work tomorrow, but hopefully can enjoy the cold rain on Friday as I ride in. I hope. Sometimes I'd almost rather have the flu and get it over with than the stinking chest cold...

DVC45 11-17-11 12:32 AM

I feel ya. I am down with a cold for a few days now. :(

JeanSeb 11-17-11 02:39 AM

Yeah it's bad indeed. I had a bad cold that turned into a bronchitis for about three weeks. Being sick AND driving to work: a lose-lose situation. :(

We're with you !

hyhuu 11-17-11 06:41 AM

^ This. I was in the same boat and kept riding for a while. It was a bad move so I stopped. Now I'm almost healthy again.

newkie 11-17-11 06:48 AM

On the plus side, all the riding and being fit means you are probably getting fewer colds. I try to push on if it's just a minor cold, but yeah there is a limit where that's just a bad idea.

Bud Bent 11-17-11 06:51 AM

Same thing with me. I kept riding with the head cold last week, but it turned into bad bronchitis this week. I rode to work Monday, but wheezed and hacked really bad and have been off the bike since. I hope to ride tomorrow.

Same, been out over 2 weeks now with flu, and forced to drive in. Haaate it.

That is probably true but little children will quickly prove that fitness is no match for their germs as I've found out.

Sounds like the same thing as me, again. My 3 y.o. started pre-school a few months ago and it seems like there's always been someone sick in the house since then.

DVC45 11-17-11 01:52 PM

Worst part for me, is that, my commute is only 1.1mi one way. I really feel guilty using my car. Yesterday was the first day I completed eight hours of work, since getting sick.

matimeo 11-17-11 02:46 PM

Getting sick is the bane of my existence and with three little kids it happens way more than I would like. Last week I was sick and missed a day of work, probably should have missed at least 2 or 3. Luckily it was all in my head (the cold) and I was able to ride the last two days of the week with seemingly no ill effects.

david58 11-17-11 08:29 PM

Actually made it to work today, but in the car. Will drive, reluctantly, tomorrow. Hopefully a couple of good nights of sleep will fix me up enough I can make the group ride Saturday. But if not 100%, will just hit the trainer.

Funny, I love the Thanksgiving Holiday. I am now officially weird - I am a bit down that there are only three days next week to ride to work.

idc 11-17-11 09:07 PM

I drove today too but did a quick 6mi tester when I got home. I have my return-to-commuting ride all planned out tomorrow - makes a Friday even better! Now I just need to catch some sleep.

david58 11-18-11 07:57 PM

Well, actually feel pretty good right now - a bit better than last Saturday, when I rode too hard and long and made myself sicker. S'posed to be a high of 40 tomorrow, rain/snow mix at times....I want to ride, but I can spell stoopid. Looks like I get to try my new Kurt Kinetic trainer tomorrow...

Yup, the colds, head and chest, along with the flu, all can be pretty nasty.

But, let me tell you all, they don't even come close to a BUMP ON YOUR BUTT and you can't ride, and dam right uncomfortable all the way around!!!

Just wanted to let you guys/gals know, when you think you in bad shape, time to count your blessing!!

Hopefully, I will be able to ride around the block today.. :(

Tundra_Man 11-19-11 08:46 AM

I'm there with you. Been sick all week. In my case it wasn't sick enough to keep me from going to work (ear infection/bad earache) but bad enough to keep me off the bike. I'm hoping by Monday I'll be pedalling again. Stinks because up until this week I was on pace to break my monthly mileage record for the year.

I've never had much of an immune system, even when I was younger. Couple that with a son that attends a public elementary school and a wife that works at a different elementary school, and I catch every little bug that goes around.

My first organized ride this past summer was jeopardized by a rather personal "bump" as well. Desperate to participate, did some personal surgery and all was well. Like I said above, I can spell stoopid, and sometimes act it out, too.

Yea, I missed 4 days of riding, plus today's group ride, so I would have had a record mileage month in November if I could have gotten my miles in this week. But, I can spend the day on the trainer, working on my bikes, working on my car, doing housework, cooking dinner, doing house repairs......man, riding sure sounds better.

My wife worked at a school for 5 years. We had every illness that went through the school, including the old H1N1 from a couple of years ago (try coaching a soccer team where you have two starters out every game for five weeks during the epidemic). But those were the good old days. She works at a hospital now....

DVC45 11-19-11 11:30 AM

I feel better now. I am thinking of riding to my brother's house, but part of me wants to hold off.
I still have the cold (mucous), but no more fever and cough. It is 45deg outside.

I think I'll listen.....

david58 11-19-11 12:56 PM

Yea, listen to the mucus....not pleasant, but better than having to stay off the bike.

So, I substituted an hour of Sufferfest on the trainer this morning - my first time on the trainer we purchased last weekend. Sufferfest is aptly named, maybe even understated. Really made me miss my club ride today. A two-towel workout, so I suppose it was worth the $11.95. But I'd rather be riding outside...

No, it not STOOPID by a long shot. It is call DESIRE!! ;) IMO, we are blessed to have it. Again, IMO, it keeps us going, keeps us smiling, and last but not least, it keeps us enjoying life.. ;)

BTW, tomorrow I am going to try for a ride around the block... Butt feeling better...
