How the Dutch got their bicycling paths
This video was shared with me today and I thought I'd pass it along.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuBdf...ature=youtu.be The moderators may move it to A+S or Utility, but I think it's interesting to share here because it really is about commuters and everyday cycling and the process that it took to make it safe again. Places like the Netherlands that I thought of as having an ancient and consistent cycling culture really had to fight to take back their infrastructure from the automobile and clearly that change takes a long time and lot of commitment. But if it can happen in one place maybe we can learn from it. Enjoy. |
A&S material or not, it was new to me that the Dutch didn't simply think bike lanes were "a good idea" all this time. :thumb:

Fascinating, thank you. Now i want to visit the Netherlands to cycle. :-)

It's at once both exciting and depressing. Exciting at the possibilities if applied here and depressing in the realization that it will never happen. Makes me seriously think of emmigration, though.
