700c flip flop
After a lot of time and research, I have decided I to go with a 700c wheel set with a flip flop hub. It is apparent there are quite a bit of tire options out there that aren't readily, or easily available on the 27. The area I live in has some crap streets and varied road conditions, be it a bicycle path, or what ever amount of road you can roll on with out being smashed by a truck or sports car. I found a nice Mavis wheel set on Harris cycle, similar and cheaper would be nice, however this is the best deal I could find.

You can get the Mavic CXP22 rims laced to Formula hubs for $125 at velomine. As I noted in your other thread, remember to request to have the rear respaced to fit your frame.
http://www.velomine.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=462 If I remember correctly, however you were looking to run wide tires in your other thread. I love CXP-22s, but in my opinion they kinda start to suck as you go up in tire width above 28mm. I'd get Sun CR-18 for running wide tires. Velomine has these for $115, but the description doesn't say Flip Flop, though. Might wanna contact Velomine and check on that. http://www.velomine.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=345 |

The IRO Cycles shop is back up again and their wheels are top notch. Unbadged Velocity Fusion rims* laced 3x to rebranded Fusion high-flange hubs. I've been beating the snot out of a pair on my monstercross bike all season, as well as a second pair on my commuter. No problems with either pair; the CX pair was built by IRO, the commuter pair built by me.
Remember - if a description doesn't say flip-flop, you can always run a freewheel on a fixed thread without problems, but not the other way around. *To the best of my knowledge, IRO Cold Fusion rims are unbadged Velocity Fusions. Other people have said they are a comparable model of Kinlin rim. Either way, they're decent rims that hold up well to abuse. |
