Wet, soggy, and wet & soggy. 69* when I left and it was 59* when I arrived. The rain wasn't heavy at all, just a constant spit. 23 miles, give or take a tenth. It will be cooler this afternoon, so the ride home will be pleasant, temp wise.

Great commute for the first 14 miles, then a rear flat. This is the 3rd flat I've had in a month or so: front a few weeks ago, front explosion Saturday, and rear today. I don't know what I'm doing wrong here. The roads I ride are fairly clean, I try to be on the lookout. I may need to look into some bulletproof skins.

I will not say the f word but buy good tires. The only good thing about putting it off for so long is I can change a flat in a couple of minutes now, <5 usually. Spend the money I bought new wheels and tires after probably more than 20 flats in a year and half or so. Gator skins were the answer for me.

50F and damp.

Caspar_s 05-11-09 12:49 PM

Saw a coyote on the way home at 2pm. Next to a 4 lane road by the mall. They've been spotted along the beach strip and from where he was there is pretty much a straight run down there. Little bit north of us is the escarpment which runs all the way to Georgian bay, so hopefully he makes it through.

Wonder how many of the drivers saw him.

caloso 05-11-09 01:18 PM

Feeling fine and fast lately. Gotta love May.

con 05-11-09 03:28 PM

Sunny, blue skies and fast......

I have been riding on my crappy Shimano RS10's I use for commuting for a few months, even for my longer weekend rides. Well, I broke another rear spoke on Sunday.......So, today I rode up the mountain to work with my Rolf's on my bike. Those wheels, plus that little 22mm tire up front, sure made the climb quick.:)

I can't wait for the run down the mountain to get home:D

Pedaldown 05-11-09 04:18 PM

Today's ride was hot- 97+ on the way home. I wore my camelbak to ward off dehydration- it worked. I really put down good time (for me) 15 miles:50 minutes +/-. My old Alante lived up to its name. I can't wait for my new saddle to show up...
No other commuters-
Rode with the IPOD (jury is still out)-
No rain-
Close pass with a logging truck (3'). No one to his left, he just didn't get over...

*Failed to mention a fox that ran in front of me Friday. We startled each other pretty throughly. Its a lucky thing no traffic was coming:twitchy:

HardyWeinberg 05-11-09 05:43 PM

I've been watching the weather radar online lately, but today I took off right as a fairly thick rain started, and it ended when I got to my daughter's daycare. But there was a brutal headwind the whole way, both with and without the rain.

Oh yes, tearing down the main drag as fast as possible to get to the daycare, I was noticing the road was *really* bumpy, then THUMP, that was my pannier w/ my 6 month old laptop sailing away and crashing to the pavement. It starts up fine, anyway.

Trueblood 05-11-09 05:53 PM

Very nice, high 50's low 60's. Traffic was manageable. I know it sounds crazy, but in heavy traffic, I feel like buses are my friends, at least they don't or can't make sudden moves. Taxis are the enemy.

Doohickie 05-11-09 06:59 PM

The weather broke before I left for home so I took the long way. It would have been a perfect ride except for the Focus that buzzed me less than a mile from home. It was still a very good ride.

Matt1972 05-11-09 08:26 PM

I was a polite and prudent cager today, but only because I had travel plans right after work. My Ion was on fumes- I put $8 worth in and the needle barely hit the 1/4 tank mark.

buzzman 05-11-09 08:56 PM

haven't posted in here for a while since it takes about 5 minutes for this thread to open.

I'm adding a new front rack to my commuter so I can carry even more groceries.:)

other than that awfully nice to have such nice weather lately. bike path is crowded but if I ride at the right times it's not too bad.

making 05-12-09 05:23 AM

It was in the 40's but it just seemed colder today. Burrr for the first few miles then a very nice ride.

Big_e 05-12-09 05:24 AM

Dark as always. Had a light drizzle as I came in. I rode the Columbia Tourist today. I had oiled my bike real good last night and got all the noises out of it. Quiet ride in to work.

Very nice ride in this morning. End of last week and over the weekend were some pretty warm days, but seasonability is back: 48F/9C with a bit of mist in places and light NWesterlies. Pretty good view of the still-bright moon in a fairly clear sky.

Sunrise is creeping up earlier and earlier... :D

rumrunn6 05-12-09 05:51 AM

Weather person this am said it was warmer this morning than last morning but they were wrong - my ears were chilly at the start - my new improved do-rag doesn't cover them.

Buzzman - what kind of front rack you gonna get?

tarwheel 05-12-09 05:57 AM

I didn't start out Bike-2-Work-Week very well as I drove yesterday since it was supposed to rain all day. Turns out that I should have ridden after all. The rain didn't start until about 30 minutes after I got to work, and it quit about an hour before I usually head home. The forecasters made it sound like the rain would get worse as the day went on and I didn't relish the thought of riding home in cold pouring rain.

Made up for my laziness today and hopefully the rest of the week. It was very chilly this morning, about 48F with heavy fog when I got up. Fortunately the fog was lifting by the time I left home, and I had a nice ride to work. I bundled up since my body had quickly gotten spoiled by the 60+ mornings we've had lately. Wore my tights, arm-warmers, vest, long-fingered gloves and was just about right. Saw two other bike commuters at my work place when I arrived. That was nice to see for a change.

kegoguinness 05-12-09 05:59 AM

Fantawesome commute! I didn't commute at all last week or yesterday. It was great to ride in on such a perfect, cool, NON-humid morning here in DC. There was a nice headwind; strong enough to keep me cool without slowing me to a crawl. The bike gods were smiling today and the Bike Friday is such a joy to ride. Even with a loaded pannier (laptop etc) it rolls as fast as I want to push it. Hope y'all are having great rides!

vtjim 05-12-09 06:22 AM

Very nice this morning. No wind, blue skies. Temps in the 30sF. I saw 4 deer right after I left the house.

Almost recovered from my virus. A little faster than yesterday. Didn't get winded. Passed a couple of other riders.

mangosalsa 05-12-09 06:32 AM

Wow. What a great ride this morning. 49 degrees, Sunny, and for some reason the
traffic seemed less than usual. Saw 3 other bikes out on the road, none of them
waved back ... haters. :) I've always thought that the best bike you've ridden is the
one you are currently riding. Just had to post another pic of this bike. It's quickly
becoming the best bike ... ever. 24 miles have never been this comfortable.

Parked in it's cozy stable at work.

Another Edition of Commuter Racing: Who was the unaware and unwitting target of my childish competitive instinct? None other than a student driver. They had just proceeded from a 4way stop and I stopped, waited and went on my turn. They had a significant lead, about a 1/2 block, and I found myself closing the gap. This is a 50km/hr zone and they were driving well under it. So I gave er, I managed to get my speed up to 46km/hr and caught up with the student driver. I made eye contact with the instructor who i'm quite certain turned and instructed his student to speed up a bit. They started pulling away and I was sucking wind.

jpdesjar 05-12-09 07:33 AM

great ride, sunny and a bit brisk
my thighs were a little tired from running and biking yesterday but i made good time

i am digging the new riser bar set up...seems perfect for commuting

Aeneas 05-12-09 08:07 AM

Pleasant, lots of spinning makes the short trip more bearable. Had to stop at the pharmacy to get more allergy meds, and rather then searching for a place to lock up, just walked my bike in, went right to isle with the meds I wanted, grabbed them, paid and walked out. Nary a awkward glance from the clerks or the manager.
Chance of rain/ thunderstorms on the way home might make the trip home more interesting. Hoping to avoid them though as I want to stop at the grocery store and pick up some stuff.

corkscrew 05-12-09 08:07 AM

First commute of the season! A bit chilly as the sun hadn't come up. Must remember to wear pants and pack the shorts. Did 10 miles as the crow flies in about 40 minutes.

Glad to know my $100 Motobecane is holding up well so far. :)

making 05-12-09 08:20 AM

Due to the slow loading of this thread I am locking it and starting another one. Please continue on this one.
