Great ride in today. I can not believe it is Nov in Colorado with this weather. The time change helped provide enough light.

We were discussing something like this at my place of employment. No reason that guys shouldn't be able to wear kilts to work. Ever see the utili-kilt ?

so mix wearing that and commuting in... and being in the IT world... well.. it could be hella fun. :thumb:

Off work for a week so more of a pleasure/good health ride then a commute but I did ride past my office.

I left and it was in the low 50's. I got home and it was 70. I way over dressed and got hot. 5 miles in I was shedding the heavy jacket. 8 miles I shed the light one and rode in my base layer and jersey. My medium tights (my latent weekend Lycra addiction) were pretty hot by the time I got home. Should have gone with the light ones.

Ended up making a 20 mile loop out to My Aunts house that I don't visit nearly enough. Unfortunately she was not at home and chances are she was working her part time job at Cracker barrel that I also pass every day on my Comute. I may have to go visit her and get a pecan waffle and smoked sausage while I am there to recover the 1100 calories I burned. :D

Pretty good run. Think tomorrow I will go hit the Silver Comet rail-trail and ride 20-30 miles while ped traffic is light with folks at work. Drop in at Rockmart GA and ride up to the Brushy mt Tunnel and back down toward one the the trail heads closer to Cedartown GA snd check out the final section that was completed last month. Maybe later this week I will ride Cedar Town GA to Anniston AL.

rode to work on friday dressed as Abe Lincoln. It was a blast! Actually, what gave me the idea was, about a month ago, as I was passing a group of litle girls waiting at their bus stop, one yelled out "hey abraham lincoln!" i suppose it had to do with the beard, and i waved hello. well, they see me pas them pretty often and yell "hi mr. lincoln!" and whatnot, so i thought i would go all out and give them a funny story to go to school with. :)

it worked out perfectly! I passed them as they were walking to their bus stop, and they freaked out! haha it was great, they shouted "it's really him! abarham lincoln!...i waved and we all laughed

i also won the 'most realistic' costume contest at work, and rode home with a big gift basket in my front basket, still dressed as abe.....i got plenty of smiles, honks, "hey abe!".....all in all a great halloween commute, and being dressed so funny mus have cheered people up too, no one gave me greif :)

Riding to and from work in the dark is going to take some getting used to (I work 0600-1800, and am used to going to work in the dark and home when it's light). It's very strange that my ride home is just as dark as my ride in!

Still, it was very cool to see the moon and stars. I love clear nights. And now I'll be able to wear the same cold-weather gear home that I wore in.

It's possible. : D

I need an Incredibell or an AirZounds system. I almost pedaled into a guy who was on a cellphone. That'll teach me to stay on the road and not cut through a mini-plaza parking lot. All in all, however, it was a good commute to work- sunny in the 40's. I ordered a cyclocomputer from Hashbar, I mean Nashbar, so I'll soon get a better idea on speed and travel time. It seems to stand at a good 20 minutes. I put my aeorbar on yesterday ( had to use masking tape to thicken the areas on the handlear where the clamps are attached- ghetto!) The only spot where my Vega headlight can go is at the apex of the aerobar. I realized tonight on the way home that the light illuminates the raod a lot better than before. previously, the brake cables blocked partially the beam.

I work from 0700-1900 I know how you feel. This morning it was bright did not have to use my lights in front, just my blinky in the back. You get use to the dark though and begin to enjoy it. Do you find it easier to ride after shift or before? I like the ride home the most myself.

I mean, "partially blocked the beam"
"raod"= "road"

trombone 11-03-08 02:06 AM

Warm again this morning.
I've been riding with the fixed gear the past few weeks - a new thing, but I'm getting used to it.

Just how used was evident today when I took my other bike for various reasons. It felt extremely weird to stop pedaling!

Annoying thing is that I have a slow puncture. I took out the tube to check it, but there was no leak that I could find. So I put it all back together again, but it's still going soft. I think the tube is toast. How tedious - I'll need to get a new tube and replace it. Wish I'd done it the first time I took it out.

I am back commuting today after 6 weeks off the bike due to a new baby.

Last time I commuted it was light and I was still in shorts, but much has changed in the intervening weeks. The tights, jacket and reflective vest have been dug out of the wardrobe for another winter.

This evening will also give me a chance to try out my new fenix headlight which replaces a Cateye 530 which failed at the bracket.

YoKev 11-03-08 05:48 AM

feeling not so good this morning...grrrr

Thomas Brock 11-03-08 06:34 AM

Other than ending at my office, the ride this morning was great. It was bright, warm (but not too warm) and the sky had a lovely light gray of cloud cover. Didn't see any other cyclo-commuters, so I'm wondering if I'm it for the winter...

FredOak 11-03-08 06:55 AM

52 this morning and overcast, nice ride in. For some unknown reason I've shaved almost 10 minutes off my ride time the last two trips.
I must be hitting the lights better.

Going to be recreational riding for a week as my little guy goes in for tonsil surgery and I'm taking the week off.

tarwheel 11-03-08 07:02 AM

I spent a hour cleaning and lubing my bike yesterday, so of course we had unexpected rain today. It was supposed to be clear with clouds rolling in later in the day and showers tonight. I had my bike all packed up before I checked the morning weather on TV. Surprise, surprise, they were wrong again on their forecast. It was already raining --actually a light mist. I went ahead and cycled to work since I had all of my gear ready, even though I don't normally ride in the rain. It was just a light mist, but it kept sticking to my glasses and making it hard to see. Fortunately it wasn't raining hard enough to make the roads wet and splashy.

Another reason I wanted to ride today is that my new Dinotte tail-light came on Saturday, and I wanted to try it out. It was hard to tell how much more effective it was since it was so much brighter this morning with the end of daylight savings time. The rain made it darker, however. I didn't notice any difference in how the cars reacted to me in traffic, but I felt a little safer.

While the ride to work is easier, since it's downhill, it's SO hard to get my butt out of the house! I'm always ready to ride home, even uphill in traffic in the dark. So...I guess it's a toss-up.

Then again, if all commutes were like the one this morning, I'd get out of the house on time with a smile on my face every day! The weather was beautiful, the sky was clear, the stars were out. There was no wind. No traffic, either, but the stoplights worked out in my favor anyway.

dcrowell 11-03-08 07:44 AM

One of my best commutes yet!

Beautiful weather, no wind, sane traffic. I arrived at work with one heck of an endorphin buzz.

I saw two other commuters, but they were both on the sidewalk.

SouthFLpix 11-03-08 07:44 AM

It was full daylight out when I left this morning. Just as I anticipated, there were more cars on the road, which to me is not a good thing. I believe people are more likely to drive if there is light out, but I'm sure I will adapt given enough time.

pueblonative 11-03-08 07:50 AM

The bad thing is that I'm racing the sun down on the back end of my commute, which usually also means dealing with tired drivers.

jpdesjar 11-03-08 08:09 AM

had en enjoyable ride in, decided to take the singlespeed in so i could give my legs a little break...mounted the headlight on the bars but i may not need it, spotted a few other bike commuters which is always nice to see

vtjim 11-03-08 08:15 AM

Upper 30sF. 30-35MPH headwind coming off Champlain. It wasn't too bad when I was a little bit inland but if I could see the water, I was getting blasted and it was slow. Took me about 5 minutes longer to go 6.5 miles.

I saw a large flock of waterfowl riding big waves with whitecaps. Also saw a boat with blinds up around it and a string of duck decoys trailing it. It's hunting season but I'm not sure this guy's location was legal.

Didn't see any cyclists. Just 3 or 4 peds.

TechKnowGN 11-03-08 09:02 AM

The commute this morning kicked ass. 53 degrees and cloudy, almost no wind. Set a personal best for the commute. 32 minutes for 5.15 miles. I know that's slow for a lot of folks, but for me, it's pretty darn quick. (although I still got passed by a girl in a skirt)

It's going to be gorgeous here the next few days, mornings in the high 40s - low 50s, daytime highs between 65-71. I'll have daylight for both halves of the commute, so my lack of bike lighting won't hurt me this week.

I'm going to be able to commute 3, maybe 4 days this week before the rain comes.

Saw several other commuters, looks like quite a few folks taking advantage of this indian summer.

Ka_Jun 11-03-08 09:35 AM

Warmed up 44F today, nice ride in.

Pig_Chaser 11-03-08 09:40 AM

It was calm and still, then, seemingly from nowhere, a rain/sleet storm rolled in. Of course it involved hellish headwinds (don't they always?). It was pretty sparse though and i didn't get too wet.

habernac 11-03-08 09:59 AM

nice and warm today, it was weird due to the time change, I felt like I was late coming in as the sun was up by the time I rolled into work. Snow forecast for tomorrow.
