A haul butt tailwind for me this morning- 27 mph down Comm Ave on my commuter with 1.9" studded snow tires.

But the ride home tonight was a blustery grind. It's nice to have less snow on the ground.

My first day commuting this week.. been sick with the flu since the weekend.. it felt good to get back in the saddle.. lol

Temps are nice, low 40's this morning, 70's this evening..

Last day in Mazatlan. Commute in below freezing temps resumes Monday. I was kind of hoping my knee that's been a little swollen would get better with the week off. Guess not. Oh well....

Still some headwind around this morning, but not so much as yesterday. I rode in yesterday just as or before the wind really cranked up. Going home in the afternoon, though, if I could have rigged a sail I would hardly need to have pedaled at all.

After this past week or so of warm weather, 44F/6.5C seemed a bit chilly this morning, but I'll survive. Commuting is a bit like sex: it's all good--just that some's better than others...

Annoying headwind that was imperceptible looking at trees and things, but was clearly there. Had to drop down a gear on the slight uphills to accommodate this headwind. Overall, great commute and people seemed to enjoy my "down-low glow" neon green

Irritating headwind but not as bad as yesterday, I just geared down and took my time. Temps were a comfortable mid 40's and I was appropriately dressed and comfortable. I took my time and distracted myself with considerations for my new 29er build, it kept me from dwelling on my worn and squeeky drivetrain that has yet to be replaced. Another "all ride week" and we're getting close to Spring.

Dark as always. I rode the Puch Meteor Lux today. The ride was quiet until I was about a block from work. This dog crawls out under the fence to his frontyard and chases me, barking agressively all the while. The dog almost nips my left shoe and when I turned to kick at him, he darted out of reach. The owner is sitting on the front porch watching this. I ask the owner to put his dog up in english and spanish and he just sits there gawking at me. I stop, whip out my can of Halt and spray the dog across his head and neck. he quickly stops barking and runs off wipe himself on the nearby grass. Only then does the owner gets up to call his dog. I peddle on now without the dog trying to run into my bike anymore.

About 45F pouring rain and wind in my face the whole way this morning. Yech! Some of my clothes won't be dry when I ride home.

It's supposed to rain the next 4 days. Fortunately, I've got a long weekend! And we REALLY need this rain.

First commute of the year!!!

Below freezing, but no wind. Roads clear, but some ice on the bike path made me glad that the Kendra's were still mounted. Usual amounts of glass and crud, but they finished some construction projects on the route. A new stop light was added for another new subdivision. (More traffic, groan)

I'll be way overdressed for ride home, but I'm already looking forward to it.

DIY light system coming off tomorrow.

Beautiful commute this morning! I had a 8.35 mile ride to the station. Had a 4mph wind from the north but is was fine. did not bother me that much. Can't wait till after work to ride back home. WOO HOOO!

Well I picked up my new baby this last weekend, its a 2008 DiamondBack Response Comp. Shes all stock except for the bar ends and the Shimano M324 pedals. Yesterday was the maiden commute and it went great! Its not a long commute, only 1.5 miles, but its up hill right from the start and ends in a steep 100 yard push. I was able to granny the entire way, even the last 100 yard killer part.

I also have a Trek 7.3 FX and when I try to do this ride on it it's almost unbearable, I always have to stand and pump my way up especially that last bit.

I'll be selling my Trek I suppose since my DB is going to do it all for me

I did a great road ride up and down some hills on the first part of my commute, along a route I've never taken before. It was warm, about 60, and I was flying.

The reason I took a different route is that I met a coworker at her house and rode in with her (it was her first bike commute). The last 4 miles were much slower but that was okay; I got a good ride in early.

Like others, I had a wicked headwind yesterday. At a couple of points I was down on the granny chainring up front, and in 2 in the back. I don't normally get that low even on big hills! And even at that, I was not doing well.
I learned years ago though that I had to either learn to live with headwinds or just stop commuting in the winter.

rolled in this morning with some gusty winds mostly in my favor. The afternoon ride home was a bit more of a challenge and I took the bike path along the river. Still a few very icy spots on the path but overall quite lovely and certainly all to myself.

Yay! We finally have more snow!!!! Nothing on the roads this morning, but it's been snowing all day and there should be around 3-4 inches on the rode by 5pm. I put the studded tires back on this morning in anticipation... Perfect weather, really.

Oh, yeah! The weather for the ride in last night and the ride home this morning were within the most comfortable temperature range. This morning was especially smooth sailing since there was almost no one on the road.

This week I've been really moving; somehow I suddenly became more comfortable in the largest chainring and I'm now topping out the speed of my current bike. w00t!

I'm annoyed by the fact that I had to commute in today. But I had an awesome commute as my route takes me down the final 1000 m of today's ToC Prologue. I wore my team windvest and I have my backpack filled with clothes and my lunch. I just rode through the barriers at 15th Street like I knew what I was doing. When I got to 12th Street, a cop held open one of the barriers for me. Then a fan stopped me and said he was having trouble with his folding chair and did I have Phillips screwdriver?

I guess he thought I was a mechanic! It was awesome. And then I just rode into the parking lot and locked up my bike and came into the office. When I got in, my support staff supervisor said she said hello to Phil Liggett in the coffee shop in our building!

Commute today was 10.6 miles. Had to run lots of errands. Picked up groceries ($48) from Cost Less. Dropped off the stuff, then rode into town, and bought more groceries from Save-Mart ($35). Had a strong head wind riding home.

Picked up a headlamp from Big 5 today -- 60 lumens. Will test it out tonight around the neighborhood ...

No way, there is no way that that super casual, super easy, barely-a-sign-of-sweat, barely-a-few-minutes-out-of-breath commute was mine. AAAND there's no way that it took me only 43 minutes. My Sunday morning commute zen must have done something weird to time because I've never had any exercise that felt that easy in my life. Ever.

It's like it wasn't me on that ride or something. I'll let y'all know if I figure out what's going on...

Had my first 4-day commute of 2009 last week, and I'm starting out good this week with my first ride in the snow. It was just flurries, but I deserve some brownie points for not wimping out. The temperature was about 35 F when I left home, so I wasn't worried about ice. It was nice seeing all of the snow flakes in my headlight beam.

I've been piling up the miles lately and could top 600 miles for the first time ever in a February. I rode 174 miles last week and 150 miles the week before, including metric centuries both weeks. My legs were surprisingly fresh this morning, so I must be getting used to it. The weather has been very dry here lately, so that has not been an issue at all.

Surprisingly cold this morning. 8F. Had to have the full warm weather gear on. Beautiful morning though, with the sun coming up over Lake Michigan, no wind, not a cloud in the sky, and light traffic (Presidents day related I guess). Should warm up to the low 30's for the ride home.

Saw a couple of dogs chasing a deer through the woods, the deer was toying with them I think!
