I'd gotten up early to take the dog on a long run this morning. She'll just go and go as far as I want but she's a big girl and now that she's getting up in years I have to be careful about running her too hard. But this morning was cool and I could tell she was feeling her legs so we went an extra lap around the park.
So when it came time to ride to work, I actually took it easy. Going to head home directly so I can watch the kidlets while my wife goes to the gym and does her own thing.
Have a good weekend, everybody! Allez Lance!

Overcast this morning but it burned off by Noon & we had another 85F day. Today's scary incident: While waiting behind a full size pickup truck at a red light, the driver decided he wanted to go over into next(right turn only) lane. Problem was he put his truck into reverse & started to back into/over me. I yelled in my loudest "Print Shop" voice while backing frantically with 1 foot & other foot still clicked in. Another car was pulling up behind us & it got a bit dicey. Guy stopped just in time then peeled out & away! Stay alert out there! Don

First clear day since Monday. I wore my new Team Hillslug jersey, see them here
https://www.hillslug.com but was disappointed that no one at work got the joke.
I got a kick out of it though, it is hard to take yourself too seriously wearing that. Nice ride both ways.

Back on the bike to work today after a most relaxing vacation. Did a 2 hour ride yesterday just to make sure I would be comfortable. Warm, humid ride in at 3:00 pm edt. Nice and cool coming home at 12:00 tonight. A distinct lack of crazies on the road this evening. I am most grateful.

My bike's out of action at the moment so I'm borrowing a (too small) bike from a friend. I forgot how much more work having a lower saddle is. Beautiful morning though - I could live with this weather a little longer.

Another beautiful morning ride with cool temps and low humidity. My legs were a little fatigued from riding 7 days in a row so my goal was just to spin in and enjoy my time on the bike. I wanted to test my front derrailleur and big chain ring and hit 30 on a flat stretch by the airport without even coming close to gearing out, however, my average speed was more like 17 mph. Only saw one other rider which surprised me as I left a little later than usual. Last week was my first "all ride week" in over a month and I'm hoping to repeat it this week.

Late leaving for work Saturday so had to cook it and showed up especially sweaty. Met my g/f at the pub Sat night, hauled bike home in the car. Beautiful, cooler ride in 8:00 Sunday A.M. Extended my route coming home so I would ride 1hr 45 min instead of the usual 25 min commute. Seems like the really rude auto drivers own the most expensive cars. Day off today, running my usual 6 miles, but no riding.

Temps were in the upper 60's and there was no wind. I counted 13 other riders out this morning. The ride itself was great. I spent yesterday trying out different gear combinations for a fixed gear project. I think it will be exciting to try something different.

I was biking down the trail this morning, on my morning commute...and a group of old people, like 15 or so, were walking side by side down the trail coming towards me. (like 50's and 60's) I came up on them, and most of them saw me and got out of the way, except this one old woman, who was COMPLETELY in my lane. I said 'Coming through' but I guess she didn't hear me... I had slowed down from about 15 to 5 MPH and was basically crawling. Finally I pulled off onto the grass and went around her, and it scared her. "YOU NEED TO ANNOUCE YOUR PRESENCE!," she bellowed.
I stopped, turned around, and was like, "Look, first of all, I DID announce my presence, and everyone in your group heard it except you, and got out of the way. Second of all, YOU are in MY lane, going the wrong direction. So YOU need to stay on the right side of the lane and PAY ATTENTION." I was LIVID.

So...how was everyone else's commute this morning?

Low 60's (F) this morning. Heavy overcast and breezy. Was a nice ride.
This was the first day commuting after my crash last Wednesday. I felt pretty good. I am still unable to stand and mash due to the back ribs injury. Very sharp pains when I attempt to stand on the peddles. So, I stay in the seat and take it easy.

Great ride in this morning, great lunch ride and I'm looking forward to my ride home. I'm just savoring every moment of this summer weather we're having... I know it's short.

Been too busy to report in the last few days, but rest assured I have been on the bicycle. It has been partially sunny most days, with temps in the uppers 70s(f) / lower 80s(f) and very humid. Thurs. and Fri. last week there was a huge bald eagle in the same tree once in the morning and once in the evening. Very cool. The riding in general has been pretty nice.

14 degrees C on another "winter" morning today. A strangely subdued performance from me, I don't know what's going on after I owned all the hills on Sunday's century. Maybe I just couldn't get excited about it.

Broken clouds today & unusually humid for our region. Really worked up a sweat. On my morning commute I got onto South Bay Road & began overtaking what appeared to be a child on a mountain bike. As I caught up, I realized it was a very small woman, standing on the pedals & moving along at a pretty good clip. I think I frightened her so I turned off & took a different (longer) route to Martin Way where I spotted her up ahead of me still standing up & hammering away. She turned off towards St Peter's Hospital still standing & riding hard. If she had been on a road bike she would have really been moving. Don

not sure if it qualifies as a commute...since my shortest route home is 1 mile....but today I extended it to 10 miles. Legs and lungs felt good. This was city riding, stoplights and all, I'm not used to it because most of my longer rides are in rural areas or on a bike path. Stoplights and traffic require a lot more attention!
overall pretty good...cept my left hand went a little numb. Bar ends came in the mail today, I'll mount them to my flat bar to see if that helps.

I feel strange today. Ride was ok, nice weather again. But I didn't feel right - like my subconscious is sick but hasn't told the rest of me. I hope this passes before home time.

The ride was a rough one today. I barely slept last night and woke up with a bad stomach ache. I was really dragging and seriously considered calling in sick. I finally got dressed and on the bike and felt like I was going to vomit after a few turns of the pedals. I took it easy and spun in at a moderately slow 16 mph average. The weather was nice and cool and I saw a couple of other riders. Now to find a place where I can take a 20 minute cat nap...

Hope you're feeling better soon mjw
Had a really nice ride this morning - calm, warm and sunny conditions - perfect for riding right on past work and pursuing a day's cycling instead.
Cheers,
Ed

Gorgeous, gorgeous morning.
Now that our work and family schedules have synched again, my buddy and I have restarted our 6:30am training rides. He pulled up and the first thing he said was, "Were you watching the Tour? Ullrich is attacking!"
When we got to the turnaround, he pulled out the cell and called his wife: "Oh, sorry. I thought you were awake and watching the Tour. Okay, nevermind, go back to sleep. Love you, bye."
Luckily for him, his wife is VERY understanding about this bike thing.

No one carries the DogBoy
No bike commute today due to meeting after work, but I wanted to post about yesterday's ride. Coming into my workplace there is a short drive with speed limit 20 from the main road to the parking ramp. When I hit this road I usually go 20 mph so cars don't zip around me and cut me off. Yesterday, a car decided that 20 was too slow, and she started to pass me (2 lanes). I knew she would cut me off, so I hammered up to 33 mph (flat no wind) before she finally gave up and we reached the parking ramp with me in front (maybe 1/4 mile). I saw her face when she realized that she couldn't pass me without topping 40 and lets just say she was floored. I've yet to have so much fun on my bike
On the way home I took the long way to cool down after a frustrating day at work. Too bad I can't ride every day.

on the way to work yesterday I pulled up to a light less than 1mile from work. I recognize the guy in the car next to me as someone who works in my building (I always see him in front of the building smoking). I think nothing of it until I get to the front door of the building and see him rounding the corner in his car still. It was a short distance, but there was a small hill and he was in a car! I beat another co-worker to work on my bike, it's a short commute, but feels good just the same.
After work I decided to get some exercise, so I did a short 10 mile ride. Got to see a small county lake that I've never been to before, looked at the neighborhoods along the way because I'll be buying a home in the next year or so....found a creek that I didn't know existed, and a multi-use path that follows it. I'll have to find out where it goes!
I feel so much more efficient on my bike, even though I'm technically slower than if I were to take a car, I am getting exercise and I notice more around me. I would have never found that creek and trail if I hadn't been on my bike.
Today I installed the panniers that came in the mail yesterday, tomorrow I take the long way to work (approx 10miles) and no laptop-backpack induced sweaty back! WOOHOOO!!

Nice ride today. The wind is back with force. (as usual). It has cooled down back into the mid 80F range. Much better than the mid to high 90s. The ride this morning was warm. Temps were in the mid 60sF. That is warm for the area at 7:00AM.
Saw a dead raccoon this morning. That is the first of that particular critter I've come across.

Partly cloudy, warm & a light breeze today. Managed to ride into the wind both ways on my lunchtime commute. Saw 6 other commuters today so things are looking up.

Left a little bit later than usual this morning because I was watching the Tour, suffered a pinch-flat about 3 miles from home.
First flat I've had. Took me about 15 minutes to replace the tube, got to work about 12 minutes late. Very nice ride coming home though traffic was heavier than usual. Relatively mild weather (warm, not unbearably hot) for this time of the year in Ga.
