Today it was 38*F when I left, but there was heavy frost on the ground at some points in my ride, including up onto tall grass & corn. That indicates at least 32 and probably 30 or less.

thanks. our house is high on a hill (by the water treatment plant) so i'm not surprised that low-lying areas are significantly colder in the morning. but hey, dig this crazy sunshine, eh? i think our nasty-weather-bill will come due in november, however.

check out this thread for more of the same info: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...770#post637770

oops, posted this in the wrong thread. I guess I had to many windows open at once.

I still get a kick out of that thread madhouse,(ssshhhhh). Say, how ya comin' on those 107 trips?
Todays' ride was warm & windy.

ollo_ollo 10-06-04 05:56 PM

Scattered showers & 60F AM, partly sunny & 68F PM: still very light traffic, I wonder why? Passed a couple deer grazing on the shoulder near where the I-5 off rampmerges with Martin Way. I yelled & spooked them back into the woods to (maybe) live another day. Don

The official am temp today was 45F/7C, but our house thermometer read 32.2F/0c. Today I can be confident that our thermometer is accurate, as we had our first frost covering the whole back yard. I am officially p-o'd at my car. I needed to take my dog to work today to have a lump biopsied, and my car wouldn't start (again). Fortunately, my "alternate transportation mode" was working well. Dog will just get re-scheduled next week.

it's cold these days..thank god for layering..experimenting with different clothing sets but with layering it's all good.. and i'm especially glad my bro bought me a windproof/waterproof cycling jacket, these things are a must.

Nice ride today , Rode the ss today. Found a shot cut to work . Less cars in my way . Thanks

Nice sunset, nice view of a flame tree in Southport, stupid crash on the Sundale Bridge, now some road rash to nurse, but I think I'll be OK.

mrfix 10-07-04 04:22 AM

Nice ride today, a bit warmer then yesterday and less traffic.

MsMittens 10-07-04 04:27 AM

Beautiful! 5:45am and 12 C. Very few cars on the road plus all the lights were green. :D

PaulH 10-07-04 07:15 AM

Beautiful and sunny -- 51 F / 11 C this morning. For the first time since last spring, I wore my sports jacket. School was closed today, so I used my trailer to take my daughter to the "vacation camp". The result was an hour of riding, more than half of it towing my daughter -- aomething of a workout!

The best part was that my route brought us along a small river called Four Mile Run. Catherine had hoped that we might see some herons, and we did -- a Great Egret and a pair of Great Blur Herona. These birds are three or four feet tall and spectacular to see.

A bonus private lane for me this morning: a work crew had set up pylons blocking off a lane of L Street for several blocks but hadn't started work yet.

The ride deficit is up to 110, I bought some winter clothing.

The Twins/Yankees went to extra innings which meant an extra pint and 1 less hour of sleep which equaled oversleeping. So for the 10th day in a row I haven’t ridden to work!

47F, clear & cool bright stars shining down @ 6AM, by Noon it was 62F & sunny with a few thin, high clouds. 65F and clouding up this afternoon, supposed to rain after midnight & be wet tomorrow. Didn't see any wildlife on today's ride & that's unusual.
Saw an abandoned 3 spd minus stem, bars, chain & seat laying in the weeds, need to go back & check it out as it may have possibilities. Don

HEY, that's what I was gonna write! Really though, it is exactly how it was here in Wisconsin today. Roger

Smoky this morning, which normally bugs me, but may have been a good thing this morning. I was expecting to be a little nervous after yesterday's crash, but that all disappeared once I got on the bike and just started pedalling. Man that was a good feeling!

spidercyclist 10-07-04 10:18 PM

Nice ride, Took the short cut to work again. Thanks

Ed Holland 10-08-04 06:33 AM

9/10 <insert favourite derogatory name for careless motorist here> points to the driver who nearly felled another cyclist and myself this morning by almost pulling out of a side turning into the pair of us.

How would Oscar Wilde have put it?

"To injure one cycist with an idiot manouvre might be considered unfortunate, but to bag two starts to look like carelessness"

/end rant/

Other than that incident, I had a fine enjoyable ride today.

Have a good weekend everyone and ride safely,

Ed

couldn't ride yesterday because i had time management issues i was unable to solve without a car. but not today! cloudy, a little cooler, possibly some rain later...bring it on, i say. i sure like being on my bike!

ofofhy 10-08-04 08:48 AM

If you're riding in Philly before 8:00 am, it is a breeze. This is one of the latest waking cities I have ever lived in. The only problem with today's commute was some old lady honking at me because I wasn't giving her 20 feet clearance to pass me. She had a lane and half to go around me, but instead she rode about three feet off my back tire.

Zin 10-08-04 09:27 AM

38F at my place when I headed out. Once to the river bottoms it was below freezing. There was heavy frost on the plants, trees, and cars. I is much easier riding in the cooler weather for the second year than it was last year trying to figure out how many layers I needed for a given temp.

I rode my new 2005 Jamis Quest to work today. :D Its supposed to be 76F this afternoon! So, I'm bailing out of the office at noon to go for a ride on my new baby. (did 18 miles on Logan's Pass yesterday, didn't quite make the summit.)

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Bob

I only wish I could have biked today. Damn time constraints. Have to be leaving town by 4....to the farm by 6. Harvest is proceeding full speed. I can't wait until Tuesday for the next commute. That is too long; I will have to squeeze some activity in over the weekend....to work off the turkey (Thanksgiving in Canada). Today would have been a nice commute though....zero celcius with no wind and full sun.

Have a great weekend (a long one if you are a Canuck).

Bob, Congrats on the new bike!

Commute today was very brief, but beautiful! The temps hit low 80's F on the way home, but I only had about a mile and a half ride as I was picked up at a local park and ride. I rode in with my regular work clothes on though, and I must say, riding in denim jeans is not the most pleasant experience... :o

60F & raining hard today, I didn't ride because I stubbed my little toe against a chair leg last night. It was sore & swollen this morning & I couldn't get my bike shoe on so I just drove in to work & hobbled around all day. Enjoy the weekend.

HobartDave 10-10-04 04:36 PM

Absolutely gorgeous beautiful day in Hobart! How could anyone ask for more? Finally able to get rid of the arm/leg warmers and enjoy some sunshine. Roll on summer!! :D
