Today was a pretty nice day with only a few showers but I didn't ride. Doctor says I just have some torn accipitor?? (sp) muscles around the shoulder joint & some tendonitis. He was right that I would have much more pain this morning, I discovered a few other bruises & a hip pointer that will take a few days to go away but the road rash is healing nicely. We had a team lunch across town today anyhow so I drove in. I'm just treating with ice packs & pain killers for now, hopefully the recovery period will be brief. I may try a commute tomorrow if the shoulder feels better. Don

Beautiful morning in Los Angeles. No need for long sleeves. My commute has only a few minor hills. Perfect for my single speed. I shair the downtown LA streets every morning with the true bike commuter heroes: Latino dishwashers, busboys, cooks, factory workers on squeaky, second-hand bicycles. They ride EVERYDAY and put me with my Sidis and lycra shorts to shame. Peace.

I started commuting home a different way recently, a rolling hills 30k trip instead of a flat 20k trip. The whole trip takes only a few minutes extra than the previous shorter route. Why? Because once I get to the top of climb, its rolling hill fun nearly al the way back to my house. Ill peak at speeds of about 80kph and never fall below 40kph for the rolling hill section. I tried that route a few times, loved the feeling of cranking along beside cars at the same speed.

Took a few days before the mortality gene kicked in about travelling that fast on a fairly well traffiked road. Thought about what happens if I come off at the speed, considered the surface of the road(which is quite bumpy in places and having to dodge manhole covers and such), and the possibility of being unable to stop myself quickly going at the speed when/if something pulls out in front of me. So, no more high speed trips down that road. It was fun while it lasted though.

So now, instead of giving up on the climb up to the top and turning off, I keep going upward on onward through a slower more relaxing route that brings me at just over 46k for my daily commute. Its infinitely better.

A warm day in central Maryland! I took off my sweatshirt on the ride home because it was so nice out. I often see interesting wildlife on the Paint Branch trail in the mornings. Today, it was a few ducks and a woodchuck catching some sun in the middle of the path.

Today, was cloudy. It started to drizzle. However, I was able to run the rain. Good comute, Should have gotten more miles though.

Yesterday was the first day in 6 months we had any rain. Boy were the streets slick, just like ice. Better today most of the oil and crud washed off. It's sure good to ride in the rain again.

The last few days have been great for commuting. Yesterday morning I was over-dressed and had to stop after going only 1.5 miles to take off my windbreaker. Stopped again about 1.5 miles from work to take off my arm warmers.
Rode home with only shorts, jersey, and windbreaker. No warmers or full finger gloves needed. Today is supposed to be just as good.
I wonder how long this warm weather will last?

Last night I had a night commute home after being out to the pub with some workmates.

I was cruising along on the unlit trail and I saw something reflect my light so I backed off. Then I saw something big and dark looming in the middle of the trail. Deer! He wandered off the trail before I could get a good look at him.

I love night commutes.

how was the commute today? the commute today was fine, thanks for asking. just about 50 °F, a little breezy out of the southeast (unusual direction, that) and some drizzle. i discovered when i got home last night that that funny bonk i heard on the way in was a spoke breaking, at the hub, in the back. in a perfect world i would have replaced it last night but, alas! the world she is not so perfect. so today i wobble a bit and tomorrow, during the michigan-ohio state game, i get to tinker with my wheel. at least it's on the non-drive side...

Beautiful day to ride today, 47F & sunny. Lots of traffic though. Got cut off by a small sedan crossing the road, but I saw it coming so I just acted it up a little for the driver's benefit. Then I saw him again a few minutes later when I beat him to an intersection. No better retribution that I can think of. Had a big smile on my face for the rest of the ride. Stupid cagers.

yesterday night was amazing. It was 6C, which is very nice for this time of year, and there was an intense fog everywhere over the city. It was dark, and I could see the beam of my front light very clearly, esp when there was no light on the bike path. Very nice and eery commute.

Rode in to work and based on the recommendation from my wife, stopped at a local independant coffee shop to get their non-fat latte. She claims it's the best latte she's ever had in her life. Could be an exagerration I thought to myself, but worth the stop during the commute.

After missing near perfect conditions yesterday, I was determined to ride today. I got up and checked the weather… they were saying rain. I talked myself into it “60% chance of rain is 40% chance of dry weather”. I stepped outside to get my bike and I felt and heard a light sleet. I came back in and took my jersey off and put on my rain jacket. Then I took the jacket back off/then on/then half off and finally on again… My bike is house in a steel shed where a light rain sounds like a thunder storm. The light sleet sounded a lot worse… I convince myself to go, so I rolled my bike out. The sleet had picked up a bit so I turned around to push the bike back inside… But my willpower prevailed again. After the first two miles everything was fine.

The sleet turned to rain but I was dresses appropriately so it really wasn’t a factor. It dawned on me that this was the first real rain my fenders had seen and they work well… I would have been quite content never knowing that but alas that wasn’t to be. It was almost hypnotic watching the water spray from my front tire glimmer in the beam of my headlight.

I’m sitting in my office with the rain still coming down. I’m not looking forward to biking home. I keep trying to reassure myself that I will get wetter from the inside out that I will from the outside in. But the miserable weather is still looming in my head.

Downright balmy here on the North Shore of Mass. I extended my commute by about 10-15 miles stopping at a take out to pick up a spinich pie to drop off to my fiance at her work, who was more than a bit jealous at not being out on the roads. I get out at 11Pm tonight and am looking forward to a cool, night ride, traces of that sweet stink of sea in my lungs...I'm trying out a Sigma Sport Blade LED headlight. Supposedly a pretty good piece.

38F, clear with no wind at 6AM & my shoulder felt up to it so I had a nice ride in light traffic. I decided to go out at 9:30 am to ride over to the bakery for a snack & found my rear tire had gone flat. Pulled the wheel off & replaced the tube with the one I always carry under my saddle. A big chunk of glass was the culprit & when I checked my tires, I found 2 more pieces in my back tire with 2 more stuck in the front. I rode home for lunch & took the long way around to enjoy the sunny 45F day. Rode back on my Torelli & about 1/2 way to work I heard a steady clicking from my front wheel. What the hey??? Looked down & saw something silvery zipping by every revolution. I stopped but not soon enough. It was a self tapping sheet metal screw about 1/4 inch long & when I pulled it out, there was a hiss. Walked my bike about 50 feet to a place where I could swap tubes but I noticed It was still holding air so got on and was able to ride about 1/2 mile before it got really squishy. Pumped it back up to 70 pounds, got on & rode the remaining 1 1/2 miles to work where I swapped the tube. 2 flats in about 12 miles of riding is a personal record. Don

Drove to work with my bike in the back seat. Had an el-cheapo car I was trying to sell, and sold it.

Rode home in misty rain; not too cool though, a thick polyester short sleeve stretchy shirt and shorts were perfect for the ride back. I get the distinct feeling that auto drivers respect you more if you are riding in the rain. Maybe it's just because they have their windows rolled up, makes screaming obscenities more difficult. :dunno:

Rode to work for PM shift..Couple weeks ago, would see a couple cyclists in route..Just made it before dark set in...Like to rush, so don't have to put on a jacket and have to wash that out for the return...If I pedal hard enough, can go w/o a jacket up until about 60 degrees..That upped my average speed to 13.5 mph carrying a load with panniers and all with significant hills...Pretty good for a touring bike with panniers and probably carrying 20 lbs.

My return trip was in heavy 40F rain. I can't say it was fun, or that I enjoyed the ride. But I do feel better having ridden.

This week they finished paving the stretch of road in front of work, so I was able to end the week by commuting home by my favorite route again. It has only been 8 or 9 weeks, but it seems like forever. I missed the whole fall color season on Moose Hill.

A little chilly this morning, the running vest I wore helped to moderate that. Just starting to sprinkle on the way home but still relatively warm. Nice.

High 50's when I went in for a meeting at 6:00 this morning. Also rode to a coffee shop during a break from work. Rain, rain coming home tonight. Temps still moderate though.
