22F @ 6AM today & I was feeling all my years so I wimped out & drove to work. Spent the final 2 hours of my morning at a mandatory all staff meeting with our agency head (zzzzzzz), then went home for lunch. It was bright & sunny, 42F & heading for 53F so I rode back on my Bianchi. Pushed all the way for a fast commute which helped to clear the cobwebs. I arrived refreshed & ready for a productive afternoon. Don

Cold ride to work and home. But still a good ride and rode the ss today . Have a good nite .

Nice ride today, little traffic and a good pace.

not much temperature this morning, around 261 °K. last night's ride home was tough on me, with the headwind and the pelting snow and the uphills and the pain in the glavin...

Baltimore got hit by an unexpected snow dusting, 1/8 inch. No salt was put down, 60 accidents by 6:30AM, I-95 southbound was closed as were many other arteries to the city. Schools closed. All of this from an dusting. I thought my commute was going to suck big time. Looked outside and there was NOTHING on my street!! Apparently the edge of the storm stopped less than a mile from my house. I headed south to the train, very cold 22F, windy but no traffic at all. Winter has returned to the mid-atlantic. Weekend looks grim.

Mid 30s this am. It is starting to get light for ~ the last 2 miles of my commute. My rear derailleur has been creaking and getting progressively worse over the last week, so I converted my commuter to fixed gear last night when I got home (easy job because I still have everything from when I used to have it set up as a fixie). It was supposed to be temporary until I rebuild or replace my RD, but I had so much fun riding fix this morning that I might just ride it through the spring.

Pretty wet this morning, but I didn't think too much of it. Got a thumbs up from a motorist at a stoplight. Maybe he was feeling sorry for myself, but I prefer to think that he was saying "Attaboy!"

Pretty morning ride in this morning, beautiful sunrise (it's nice to see those on my ride in again with the longer daylight hours). It was a little cool though, 0 F/-18C. We'll be lucky to see the mid teens today for a high.

A crossing guard told me to stay safe. That was nice. I broke up four fights at school that day subbing... : )

23F & clear @ 6AM today. The high humidity put a bite into the slipstream when I got up to speed but the streets were dry & there was not much traffic on the way in. Did a quick ride home for lunch & back in the sunshine, by 3:30 PM it had warmed up to 50F for my commute home. I could get used to this! Have a good weekend. don

11 degrees F, dry pavement, clear skies at 6:30 AM. Cold but great ride to work. Sunny and 30 F with a slight tail wind on the way home. Nice ride home.

Brrrr. It was around freezing and I was heading straight into a northerly wind this morning. Snow is forecast for today, and we have had a couple of pathetic flurries already. Temp forecast for tonight was -4C. Where are those leg warmers again?
Cheers, Ed |
Well I finally did it. I moved from a short commute to the Metro station, to the full ride from my house to the office. Its about 11-1/2 miles from door to door on a very nice MUP. What a wonderful ride through a country club, past ritzy homes through an old railroad tunnel and over several dedicated bridges. Then along the C & O Canal and alongside the Potomac. It was about 38 degrees, but dry and no wind.
Since it was my first time I spent more time than desirable shifting gear and clothing around to get comfortable (I refuse to divulge how long it took me, until I can do it in a more respectable time). I think I have more tinkering to do to find a good set of clothing, but other than cold toes things went pretty well. I'll have to see how the trip home goes when things should be a little more uphill. |

Good ride to work and home . I just hope it drys out a little bit more . Have a good nite .

Well, we got a little snow yesterday, fortunately not enough to make the homeward journey difficult on 23mm tires. There are rumours of more today, so I fired up my Wife's Fuji folding ATB. Woah that is a heavy bike, but I'm glad of the wide tires.
Cheers, Ed |
very lots of frozen ices this morning. neighborhood scary. ka-chunk-ka-chunk...look out! but then it got better, the usual grime and splatter. i have to admit, it's getting better...

I sure can't whine about the weather here. It seems like it has been about -15C in am warming up to -10 in the pm for about the last month. Very little wind and usually sunny. These temperatures and conditions make for a very enjoyable commute. I know exactly what to wear; the roads and paths have stayed clear. All around it has been a good month of commuting so far. I guess that makes up for the crappy conditions in January. I wonder what March will bring. In like a lamb out like a lion or vice versa? I can't wait to get on my new bike once it dries up.
Have a great day! |
I'm so glad you asked, just when I think no one cares, you ask how my commute went . . . well, I've been spinning in my 21 cog for the past two days because my rear der cable broke on a leisure ride on Sun and I'm too lazy to fix it. I unhooked my front der and tied up the rear in the 21. Good enough to get me up the hills but can't really go too fast otherwise. Nice. Relaxing. No pressure to "go fast".

A number of issues combined to make me drive in today and the weather was just gorgeous! Driving in on a route that I normally ride, I passed a girl on a fixie and I just wanted to kick myself.
I'll make up for it tomorrow, I promise. |
Don't know how we did it, but all the rain that usually drowns us in Oregon has gone to California. Clear skies and 38F degrees this morning...supposed to be 60F degrees by the ride home. Almost makes the commute too easy!
|
terrible, I broke my left/front Shimano 105 STI shifter trying to get into the third chainring. Now I can only use the front two! Does anyone want to split a new pair of shifters? How can one get an individual shifter that costs close to half the price of the pair?

First day I was to ride to work, after 2 days off. We had quite a bit of rain the last 1 1/2 days. I rode to the greenway to take my usual route, there appeared to be a river at least 3 feet deep running across the entrance to the trail. Ugh. So I rode back to my place and took the car in. I would have been late to work otherwise. Too bad, it was a beautiful day for the commute in.

Good ride to work today. The road and the railbed were muddy. but I got to ride the ss with the studded tires.
So the ride was real good today. Think Spring! |
24F, clear & dry at 6 AM today & I didn't feel up to it so I drove in. The sun was so nice at lunch time, I just had to ride a bike back to work. This dry sunny weather is really nice but we had to do some watering over the 3 day weekend. Just seems wierd to be concerned for our landscape plants getting dried out in Feb!
