Definitely warming up: high 50s F on the way in. By the time I rolled up to the office, my arm warmers were pushed down and my jersey unzipped. I love it.
I haven't been able to log as many miles as I planned to by the second week of May, but I'm just going to have to make the commitment to getting up early and out of the house every morning that I can. Be safe, everybody. |
It was low 40's this morning, and I wasn't sure I wanted to brave the cold, but I put a fleece under my jersey and started out. My hands got cold pretty quick, but I had packed full-finger gloves in my seat bag, and that did the trick. The ride was great -- I even added some extra distance to the commute by taking a more indirect route.
I'm looking forward to quittin' time and the ride home. - Don |
commute in was great, cool. Ride home was tough, blew a spoke, hobbled home. Wheel bldg wknd Enjoy the weekend, see ya Monday
|
Happy friday the 13th. Good ride to work and home.
My ride was still a little muddy, but still a good ride. Have a good night. |
Passed a teenager on a mountain bike who asked how many gears I had and then got passed by a large white-tailed buck on the way home.
|
Windy on the 13+ miles to work, ave was 17mph. Tail/cross wind on the way home, ave went up to 18mph. On the way home saw some kids on BMX bikes....one came across as being a bit of a tough guy....he said "what's up" and I replied "nothing much....want to race?" and he said "sure".....so we took off and I never saw them again.
|
Went to work early today. Was out on the bike at 5:50AM. Trail was wet from overnight rain. Temps in the high 40Fs. Saw two loons in the water.
Another fine ride. |
cool, wet roads and nice ride at sunrise.
|
a little cool this morning, 45 °F or so, but sunny, after a weekend of rain. also a bit of a following wind; hope it either turns or calms through the day.
i think i am seeing a few more folks riding in town, in response to all the month-of-may bicycle promotions that re going on. is anyone else seeing this in their fair burgs? |
On my shared straight/right turn lane where I go straight, when the green arrow appears and I'm first in line with a car with no turn signal behind me; I 've just started pointing at them and then pointing right as if to say, "YOU, RIGHT-TURNER, GO!" So many people fail to use their turn signal, yet still get pissed when I'm in the lane, that I have to be traffic cop up there. I'm biased left but still most motorists are still stopping behind me, which is fine, I just need to play traffic cop. Better that than get run over.
|
The commute was fine this morning. Forgot a couple things, but it was the first morning warm enough to wear shorts, but the ride home might be in the 80s, but that's okay with me! As long as there's no rain.

I know I posted in this thread some time ago, but as its Bike to Work week I'll ad my uneventful story of the day:
It was cold and wet today, yet it was a beautiful ride!! When I got to work I was nice and warm from the ride, even a little sweaty. I toweled off and washed up at the sink as usual and was ready to start my day. This was my first ride with the new "messenger bag" (Eastpak girls carry-all thingy) I got from the Goodwill, I packed it full of clothes for the week. I think I liked the back-pack (book bag) better but I gave it to someone who needed it to carry food and they never brought it back. |
Overcast and wet this morning, but the rain had stopped so I decided to ride in. I'm glad I did because I would have been pissed when not even a single drop of rain fell on my car the whole ride in!
Today marks my 7th commute, and my third week. I'm going to try and commute every day this week. My favorite part has been the continued challenge of "beating myself." This morning, I made the first three miles of my ride in record time. Also, there's a tight 90 degree turn on part of the bike path I take. Today, I took the proper line so as not to have to brake to stay on the narrow trail. A small victory for me. My goal is to pedal through the entire turn. Maybe tomorrow eh? If I make it to work in record time when driving my car, there's no satisfaction. No satisfaction in making a nice turn. No satisfaction in taking a good line... I love biking to work. Happy Bike-To-Work Week, everyone! |
I wasn't expecting to see any additional commuters on my way to work this morning but I'll keep my fingers crossed for the way home. Perhaps I'll take the long way home to increase my odds.
The ride in today was chillier than last week but it was still great. |
Same story here, cold and damp, slight rain. When the h*ll is it going to warm up here? This is my third year, and I don't remember waiting so long other years for the warmer weather to arrive. I actually prefer somewhat warmer weather, low to mid 60's is my ideal. I hate wearing a lot of clothes. (I know, I'm in the wrong part of the country for that...) It's only been above the mid-50's a handful of times so far this season, even on the way home, and I'm getting d*mn sick of it.
(Sorry for needing to vent this morning. It's partly that it's been damp and rainy for at least 3 Sundays in a row now, plus the two Saturdays before this last. At least this Saturday was okay.) |
New Orleans was nice and cool this morning- It should be HOT HOT HOT, so a pleasant ride, aside from the constant headwind.

Kinda sticky for Sacramento where the city motto is "But it's a dry heat!" I rode in the last block or two with a young guy in our clerical pool. He's been telling me about the new MTB he put on lay-away at the LBS and this morning he decided to get a jump on commuting by riding his old bomber to work. Way to go, Rafael! |

who exactly dreamed up a right turn arrow in a shared straight/right lane, when straight traffic has a red? Sounds like somebody needs to go back to the drawing board and rethink that intersection. |
So I bought a used mtb for a commuter a few months back. I'd noticed the cassette had a wobble to it, but it worked, so I put off dealing with it. Well, I got around to repacking the bearings this weekend, and when I pulled out the axle - well it came out in 2 pieces! Mystery of the wobble solved. A quick trip to the LBS, and I replaced that axle, repacked everything.
This morning, no wobble on my commute, temps in the low 60s, sunny, it was pretty sweet! |
Cooler than average this morning, I had to wear long pants and a windbreaker. Pretty much average apart from that, except that a couple I always see walking their Great Danes said hello.
I guess they recognize me now. |
Warm and windy this morning. Temps in the mid 50s! Rain and thunder for the trip home in the forecast.

Dry as a bone out here, almost 70F when I got going at 5:30 this morning. Looking forward to near-100F this afternoon. |

Someone mentioned looking for more commuters?
I have been commuting off and on since January here, and this is the first morning I wasn't the only bike at the City Rec Center where I shower and get ready for work. There were about five other bikes there. It made me feel good that so many were out, but I am still the only person biking to work right now... unless people are storing their bikes inside. |

. It was 36F this morning on my ride in. I'm beginning to think we are never going to see warm weather or the sun again. That's the weird thing about living here, I wear out more cold weather riding bike clothes faster then warm weather bike clothes. I live in the wrong part of this country. I still had a pretty nice ride in this morning. |
