1) a dancing girl at an 'adult entertainment establishment', typically in an elevated location. 2) a motorist, the 'cage' being the rolling steel box they call a 'vehicle' (the term 'cager' is used as an insult, eg: "that bleepin' cager just buzzed me") So... how was your commute, today? :D |
[QUOTE=* jack *]LOL, Mr. Webster at your service ;) (didn't I just see a 'bike slang' thread?)
oooooh, feeling chastised.. :o hard enough trying to understand American without the biker lingo too...Actually. for all I know it's just all common N. American parlance  I already posted about my chilly morning commute :p haven't gotten warm all day... |
I've been commuting to and from work just over a week, and I've run into a little problem. Along my route is a little dog who is allowed to run loose, and it harasses me as I cycle by. I don't want to get bitten, nor do I want to hurt the dog. I tried ignoring it one time and yelling loudly another time, but neither had much effect. I have to do the serpentine curve swerve to avoid the critter. Does anyone have a suggestion that won't get me hurt or hurt the dog so I can avoid it? I like dogs, but this one just doesn't like me! Does anyone else have this problem?
Thanks all for your advice, Missy |
A very late start this morning, as I was real tired. The ride was uneventful and 10 minutes later I was at the office.
For the week it was 2 days of 4 for me, as one day this week I was 'sick'. The two days that I drove were just because I was too tired for a 10 minute ride from my 'sickness'. Next week I am looking forward to 100% compliance. |
My commute yesterday went good. It consists of a gravel trail (about 6miles) and some road. TOtal lenght right around 10miles. The thing that sucks is that my shorts (in that area) get soaked all the way through..so it looks like something happened! Oh well, the weather has been great (mid 70's) and the winds light.

Telecommute today. I will go a for a short ride for errands and maybe a run when it cools off at night. We're doing a charity 5K next weekend (not this one) so I need to some runs in -- haven't put on the old running shoes for a couple of months!

I rode to work and was only buzzed twice on my short one mile ride to work, but on the way home after dark, with my headlight similar to a motorcycle and tail light more so visible than that, I was almost run over by some guy in a truck that doesn't understand that when making a left turn you still have to stay in the proper lane and was drown in smoke from some papa johns driver with nos...but i did meet an interesting law enforcement officer at walmart who was, since we couldn't find the reflective tape, going to simply give me a role until i mentioned galls. He said that was a brilliant idea and he'd keep a look out for me.
That was awesome and totally made my day :) |
Great ride to work today. It seems like it is getting a little cooler out. On my ride home only saw one other person riding. I hope the weather holds out for a couple of more weeks. Have a good night.

Dublin, Ireland. What a slog this morning. My 19km commute was a pain, when a few days ago it was a breeze - and very little difference in conditions between today and other days (except it was a bit colder, but that's normally better)..... moan

Did my first grocery run today. I just started using my new commuter bike (Giant FCR 3) and it rides like a dream. The grocery store is only a mile away, but I felt proud being independent of motorized transport. The only thing that bothered me was leaving the bike when I went in the store. I'm still figity about locking up my bike and leaving it alone cause I love it and dont want it to get stolen. I went as far as removing my frame pump and seat post bag and carrying them with me in the store, as well as removing the front wheel and locking it up with the back one and frame to the bike rack. My roomate says i'm over zealous. I just want my bike to be there, accessories and all, when I get back.

I just stumbled onto bikeforms.net, a way cool place. I have been bike commuting on and off for 15 years. I resumed during the summer of 2003 after a 5-year hiatus during which my commute was over a toll bridge with no pedestrian/bicycle access.
I should have ridden my bike today, but I opted for an extra 45 minutes of sleep. Also (this is just an excuse), I got totally drenched riding home last night. There was something like 3 inches of rain in 45 minutes. My gear didn't dry out over night, and I really should grease and lube the essentials on my bike before I ride it again. I have been documenting my commuting in these two blogs. Enjoy. http://electric-bike-commuting.blogspot.com/ http://www.easyracers.com/vbb/showth...?threadid=1160 Jim Environmental Scientist New Rochelle, NY My rides: Cannondale Mt. bike w/650 watt electric-assist hub motor; Trek 400 road bike; Burely Duet tandem; Burley bug-a-boo trailer; EZ3 AX recumbent trike; and, a Pedicab. |
Hey, Jim! I wondered where your blog went. All of a sudden, the link I had to it didn't work any more. You know me from the Yahoo PA group (LonghornKendra -- new Lashout owner.)
It's good to see you over here and I'll look forward to keeping up with your blog again! :) |

oh and I took the train today as I had to have a tooth extraction on Saturday (didn't fancy exposing my gaping mouth to the Glasgow blusts). Wise move; conditions in Glasgow-about to get very very wet..

Warm, humid and foggy on the way in this morning. Going to be another 90's day today and I thought autumn was coming :(
|
Nice ride. I like my bike even better since I sawed down my bars.

I woke up in a bad mood this morning and the commute didn't really turn it around for me. Sometimes Mondays are like that, natch. On my way to work I pass a house I considered purchasing about 4 years ago and ultimately decided against it. This morning to the right of it there were at least five cars parked in the front yard (which is only about 15 feet from the street to the door). And to the left of it a vehicle's window had been busted out & broken into. Didn't make me feel better, because it #$%^&*ing sucks! But I sure am glad I opted against the decision. I figured anyone that's gonna chain their grill to the deck in their (locked) backyard is waving a pretty big and bright flag saying "STAY AWAY STAY AWAY." (Edited to fix pre-coffee typos.) |
The good
1. Perfect weather. 2. light traffic by the grade school. 3. 5 second wait at the stop sign. 4. No leaf blowers on Ponderosa Rd. 5. Late, but earlier than everyone else in the office. The bad 1. 1 minute wait at the stop light. So over all today was a good commute. |
Nice ride today. Not as fast as I that thought it would be with the 22MPH tail wind, but still nice. Temperature was in the mid 50s. Overcast.
One of the things I really enjoy about bike commuting this time of year is the beautiful sunrises. Today was especially nice with brilliant colors in the clouds. |
The first day after a week off work. An absolutely gorgeous morning for riding today: cool, clear, and a faint breeze from the southwest. And the bike cage was packed. Good to see that we're picking up some converts.
