low 40's, cloudy good ride, hunting season is back on for 2 days so I had to detour the single track and ride 3 extra miles.

Oy! It's warm today. No wind to speak of, traffic was reasonable and my 13W HID light is on its way to my house. I am sore from last night's workout, but I'll survive.

Mid 60's this morning with gusty, but lessening, winds. It took about 10 minutes to get to the office.

For the week, and the year, 4 bike commutes out of 4 days, for a 100% compliance rate.

60 today but a 13mph quartering headwind the whole way - gusts to 24. My calfs were screaming. With luck it will be at my back on the way home.

A fun commute home last night, stopping by a favored dinner spot to grab a bite to eat.

Today was the same as the last two days: standing and climbing up the hill on the way to work, avoiding the granny gear, and otherwise an uneventful commute.

Ah yes, yet another great winter bike commute here in Minnesota. It would be nice to see the sun during the daylight hours though, it's been cloudy for weeks. Not that it matters with my commute, I come to work in the dark and basically go home in the dark. I am noticing that the afternoon daylight hours are starting to stretch a little. The roads are in great shape.

Score... 13 mph quartering tailwind.

Regarding MN, I was back home for 8 days over the holiday and the sun was not out even once.

Took the long way home. Haven't taken it in a while and it was fun although traffic was a bear. Ride was uneventful which is good, but I really need to get a new, lighter helmet. The one I use now is on the huge and heavy side w/ little ventilation.

Commuted last night to Govener Elect Kaine's town hall meeting on transportation, at Virginia Weslyen University. Had to lock my bike to a light pole as there were no bike racks.

My ride in this morning was really nice, temp 40 degrees and clear. But this afternoon, the wind was terrible took me an extra 15 minutes to get home.

pretty wiped from the long day yesterday. rode in at 5:30pm as the temp was dropping. good ride in but tough ride home into a steady breeze of 14 mph right out of the west. Felt like I was going to bonk, pressed through it and got home and ate like a fiend- feel better now. Oh yeah, tons of rabbits (10 on the way in and 7 on the way home) in the section of the bike path I call Watership Down. They're suicidal bunnies and I have to dodge like crazy to keep from hitting them. Almost ran one over and ate him- I was that hungry.

Charles River Conservancy was trimming the overhanging brush along the MDC Bike path today much to my delight. Lots of cell phone using, Ipod wearing pedestrians along the bike path despite the temperature- I think the sun brought them out but it was cold. In an attempt to weave around two pedestrians, who took no notice of my ringing bell, I hopped onto the frozen ground- I think I'd been running the Nokia's a little low on pressure- and sure enough got a pinch flat on the back wheel.

Actually took note of the time it took to change the flat and I was able to rather leisurely make the change of tubes in 7 minutes 45 seconds. Still got to work on time. Rode home tonight at 11:30p and despite the temperature being in the high teens (farhenheit) was toasty warm because I pushed the pace. Evidently a little too hard as I snapped a spoke on a slight uphill. So nice riding today but a mechanically challenging one.

Friday was interesting. After days of 30-45*F weather in Michigan, it cooled down to 20. That froze the mud on the roads, the top layer (which is dirt/salt/water) got powdered by cars driving over it, so there was a ton of salty dust powder in the air every time someone passed; not good in the eyes.

On the way home, heading west and north into a northwesterly headwind. Definitely a workout, and added about 5 minutes to my avg time.

It was snowing on the way home. I met the dogs at the bottom of the hill. I think their invisible fence is broken. They came out on the road barking at me, and chasing as I climbed the hill. I think there is 4 or 5 of them. This time I stopped. I turned to face them and shined my light at them. I walked towards them and they backed up! Before I knew it, I was standing in their driveway and they were barking at me from the middle of their yard. I guess the bark is worse than the bite. I'm just worried that they will run out in front of me as I come down the hill like they did last week.

be careful! squirt them (the dogs) w/water or something, a habit may be forming... there was a rider on one of our club rides who had the misfortune of having a small dog get its nose between the spokes while chasing = instant stop and fractured coller-bone (for the cyclist). train 'em!

I hit a dog that ran rapidly down a hill and right into my path. I was trying to outrun him and so I was moving pretty fast and I must have slid 30' on the left side of my body when I went down. The owner came out and offered to shoot the dog. I suggested he get the dog a leash instead. Talk to the dogs' owners asap and get them restrained somehow before you have a crash.

My commute tonight was far less adventurous with, fortunately, no pursuit by wild (or domestic) animals. It was about 23F (-5C) and quite icey but I'm loving my Nokias and they got me home just fine.

I've got to rebuild my rear wheel it's finally giving it up- broke yet another of the black anodized spokes that don't seem to respond well to the combination of really cold weather and the icey ruts plus I was carrying a heavy load home with me.

Wow!!! 50F with temps climbing into the 60's. Is this January??? I wish I had stayed home and biked. Shame on me for being so conscientious about my job. Great riding temps will be holding all week with some rain, but I'll take it.

Awesome ride today.

I forced myself not to ride the bike all weekend so that I can recover as much as possible... I think it paid off ! I made it to work a few minutes quicker than usual !

46F when I left?!? I ain't complaining. Ride was uneventful except I got to work and realized I left my headlight at home. No biggie since the streets are well lit at night, but I'll be harder to see in rear view mirrors.

It was awful. It was ~54F, sunny (very warm and NICE for early January) and I was stuck in the car. I go see the shoulder doc on Thursday. Maybe he'll give an early parole.

Temps in the low 60's as the Santa Ana winds were blowing this morning. Due to the Santa Ana's there was a 15 mph headwind for much of the ride. It took about 10 minutes to get to the office.

Friday's ride home was late, but otherwise uneventful. Didn't need my computer at home this weekend, so with no computer to drag around (it's about 20 pounds... an Apple iMac G5), I was able to ride in this morning. I'm still feeling yesterday's ride a bit, but I had a good ride.
