Cold this morning but bright and sunny with no wind. It took about 10 minutes to get to the office.

Totally uneventful. Just the way I like it.

The notable thing today was that I passed a bunch of commuting cyclists this morning, all travelling individually. It was nice to see so many of them out. :) I saw one going up the modest hill on the way in, the first time in a while I've encountered one while on the hill. But she wasn't in a racing mood, so no friendly competition or anything. That's okay... she looked like she was enjoying her commute, which is all that really matters. And as for me, I think it's almost time to graduate to the next cog on that climb. |

Glad you're feeling better.... I second your small world comment. It's not like that part of WA state is very large. :p I escaped in 2000 and moved to Denver. It was much easier to find a tech job without a degree in Denver. |
Hit a pot hole (well, a sunken drain) hard and it stung my hands. I thought my front wheel would be badly damaged but not a thing wrong with it, no buckle - happy about that...standard Specialized Comp wheel - quite impressed. I pass the same spot every commute so I was annoyed that I "went in".

It was a little overcast but beautiful weather, I have an ugly climb at the end that I made it up on the middle chainring for the first time and was totally excited...

Fast ride home for a high (for me) avg. speed of 12+ mph for the whole day, despite some headwinds that blew while going up a slight grade. Not too shabby for a 40+ lb. mtb. Next milestone will be 13 mph avg for the day. Just need the traffic to cooperate.
|
this morning I was almost late because of a overload of traffic trying to run me down ;) but in the afternoon it was so good, I took the long way home :)

pumped the tires to 100 psi after 2 weeks use (pump started at 80psi) and with wind on back, flew to work AM. return home was successful dance with cars/fellow road users (no bicyclists). went to meeting tonite at local library using new lite system, kid there asked me what was the crisis (yellow jacket amd flashing stobe lites may actually have looked like a Police - EMS uniform), told him "just riding around". town changes around here after it gets dark...got that "gut feeling' a few times, but the bike zipped through these areas. a good day with bonus miles attached!

Non eventful commute home. No snow or ice. Lots of sand on the roads. I used my lights tonight. :)

Nice ride in this morning, even had a little breeze behind me today. It's been an amazing winter for riding here in the Northeast. We've had our share of cold and ice but it's so balanced with warm days that it's made for a really ridable winter. Rolled home in the dark tonight and saw one other commuter at the end of the ride. We chatted about how pleasant an evening it was. Oh, one thing...today was bit of a harbinger of spring (awfully early but just a hint of spring in the air) and it brought out the jogger/pedestrian crowd on the MDC bike path. I can feel it coming- just when the weather gets great it will be time to give up the bike path and move back onto the streets. I'll take the Boston drivers over the Ipoded self-involved joggers who clog the path any day. No offense but they run aimlessly down the center of the path and no amount of bell ringing or "on your left" has any effect on 95% of them.
I might just be a little surly because I am reluctant to admit that tomorrow night I fly out of Boston for NYC, then Chicago, then San Francisco, then LA- two weeks out of town and off my bike! I will be living vicariously through all your rides while I'm gone and if anyone knows a good bike rental place in San Fran and one in LA feel free to PM me with details. Happy Commutes- you lucky bums. |
Nice ride today .

Commute times managed to miss the rain. Noticed moss growing on the bike trail. Bright green! ;)

Finally got my light back so I rode in today! I wish I was not so lazy on sending it in for repair. BTW: Light & Motion has great Customer service.
Great ride but the knobbies I put on for a sponsered ride create too much vibration on the pavement. The ride on Jan 1 was on wet dirt roads. Hands were not happy after 45 minutes. Need to steal back my Hutchinson Pythons from the wife's bike. She will not notice. :) Still above 0 and was a nice ride otherwise. I am trying to improve my pedeling technique. Trash day for several of the subs I go through. |
Great ride in this morning, clear, 29f, little or no wind. Have been running bricks lately in anticipation of the upcoming duathlon season, upped it to 3 miles running this morning, watched the city wake up.
|
I woke up this morning resigned to driving in, but then walking the dog I watched the sun turn the clouds a magnificent shade of purple and quickly decided to ride. It was a great ride I took it easy and just soaked up the beautiful sky. Then my computer crapped out on me so I pulled over into a parking lot to check it out. As I inspected its battery I noticed a murder of crows perched in a tree across the road. Then as if on cue the crows, one my one, flew across the street and took up position in a tree next to me. I decided that was just bloody creepy and tossed my computer into my jersey pocket and continued on to work.

Awesome ride today (vs other days) !
Some blue saleen mustang ripped past me on the way to work... so i tried to catch him as best I could (nasty head wind again!)... finally caught him but the light turns green so fast I could not get next to him, so same thing happens at the next 2 lights, he gets stuck @ the red.. so I catch him and skid right past his door and turned down toward work ! WOOT =) (I felt so good in such a dorky way!). I beat a saleen with my bicycle ! LOL traffic suxors for Jooooooooooooo ! Anyway, then at the last intersection (4 way stop) i see this white eclipse just sitting there, over the white line.. i'm 1 block away at this point.. i get closer and closer and he's not moving.. so i finally just come up and make my left, and sure enough, he hits the gas just as I'm in the middle of the intersection !! I just swerved a little and bottomed out on my left pedal ! (and I thought switching from 170 to 165mm was gonna cure this little issue for me) ... but It didnt. anyway, fun fun ! I hope the afternoon is as much fun or better ! !!! |
Had a nice ride in this morning. Cooler than earlier in the week, low 30's. There is a guy downstairs here at work doing some paint work and he stopped me on my way in to ask how my ride was and how far I ride to work. He says he has been riding for years and that he is looking forward to getting back on his bike after it gets repaired. I have had lots of people lately comment on biking and its nice to see other people are riding and enjoy it as much as I do :)

Came in early today (around 7:15). Pre-dawn light is pretty, and I saw the sun rise also. Went kind of slow, but loved it all the same.
|
Had a good ride in yesterday. No wind at 5:30 in the morning and a great tailwind going home at 3:00. Out of the NW at 12 to 20 mph. It seems as if we are haveing a lot of wind this year, but I'm lucky it's comming from the NW and I ride SE in the afternoon. Here in Denver the weather has been great most of the time to commute.
Safe ride all |
Warm today, about 39F when I left. Had a bus driver decide he couldn't wait for me so he roared ahead of me, then slowed down and pulled over. Luckily I slowed down to let him pass, but he still ended up stopping about 3 ft. in front of me forcing to turn sharply into traffic. I changed lanes safely and passed him. All that work and he didn't save any time at all compared to just waiting for me. What a putz! Noticed about 3/4 of the way to work I hadn't stopped at all, not for reds or anything so I was anticipating a fairly quick ride time. Ended up being 30 sec. longer than my usual pace!
