File this under: I have no business driving anything
So I got hit by a bus today. :roflmao: It sounds worse than it is. I got sideswiped by a bus on the elbow while the both of us were pulling away at a green light. I got the bus no. so I could report the driver, but I didn't get any witnesses, nor did I confront the driver to get his name. I later saw the same driver pull out right in front of a truck that had to brake hard to avoid him. File this under: Driving in the city scares me and I have no business driving anything Later in the evening, I saw a woman turn off Houston St. and head south down Lafayette St. Lucky for her cuz she just beat the light on Houston. Unluckily, Lafayette is a one way street going north and traffic was understandably annoyed at someone heading the wrong way towards them. I passed by her and left her to the angry drivers behind me. |
today was a good commute, minus two things. First on the commute to school I hit a dead bird. I was looking foward, had just made a turn, then I heard THUNK THUNK. I stoped, thinking what the? I saw it, I thought it was pretty funny. . poor bird though. And coming back, I weaved around the bird, but my rack was coming loose [clankdy clank] Well, I had to taake it off anyway because I am going light trail running tommorw. I would look weird with a rack.

No commute today for me. No, it's not because a storm is moving in and it's a bit cold by San Diego standards. I have no qualms about riding in 40 degree weather. After all, some of you would kill for such nice weather. It's a scheduling issue today, where I had to give up either my pre-breakfast ride (15 miles along a route of my choice) or my commute (6 miles round trip). Commuting is fun, but my pre-breakfast rides are even more fun. Well, there goes the commute for the day.

[QUOTE=caloso]Some seriously schizophrenic weather here. On Sunday it was in the high 70s; today they're talking about the possibility of snow flurries!
this weather appears out of balance, i agree. i question your diagnosis though. clearly a bi-polar (manic/depressive) dis-order (d/o) is more fitting!! :-) i finished the commute week 5/5 (100% for 2006, so far). flat rear tire 2 city blocks from work this AM slowed progress (walked it in), but also got to talk to one regular city worker i usually fly past in route. it's all good!! |
I almost got hit tonight. I was coming down a road and this lady was coming to a stop sign and she tried to roll through. The worst thing was we made eye contact. After she realized that she almost hit me, she mouthed, "Sorry". I'm just glad she didn't hit me. I did ride 6 days this week, 5 commuting and 1 just out riding. Have a good night.

30F Clear and Cold (rare for Seattle area). The return ride revealed purple and pink mountains. Very scenic.
|
39 degrees and a 9 MPH tailwind. Fastest commute ever by 2 minutes. Hit every light on green and the clipless really help my speed. Tailwind didn't hurt either. ;) The ride home was 41 degrees with a headwind. I was working on my usual day off, so of course someone asked me if I lost my license. I asked if he thought I would still be volunteering with the Sheriff if I had lost my license. Doofus. Can't a guy just commute by bike for his health? Wonder why he didn't ask this all the other times I've worked on their shift.

Cold (by local standards, this year anyway) ride this morning. 30F when I left the house. I'm clearly not equipped for sub-freezing (even by a little bit) temps - my bald head was miserable for the first 4 miles (funny - that helmet has not nearly enough venting on an 80 deg day like last thursday :) and then my feet went numb at about mile 8. A bit of a slow ride as I was really careful on the bridges, and dodging black ice from sprinkler systems that run year round in this part of the world... Oh, and I almost got hit by a guy turning left across traffic. I was 2nd in line at a stoplight, basically in the middle of the straight through lane, and he tried to jump into the small hole between the guy in front of me and the guy behind me... until he saw that it wasn't a hole after all. Wish I had a picture of the look on his face when he saw me...

Cold out. I made good time cuz there's less traffic today. I need coffee.
|
Good ride this morning. Lite traffic, lite drizzle, and reasonable temps. Nothing to complain about, except being inside for the rest of the day.

Stunningly beautiful weekend out on the trails here in FL. 70's foggy this :am. Roads fairly tame.
Weather folks say to expect a lovely week :D |
Empty town, but someone's gotta work! 28F, nice ride, few cars, clear and sunny (once the sun came up)
|
happy holiday all! to those who work today, happy commute! it's 10 am and the bear has risen finally! feels good to be up late. anxious to ride in the mid-day shine. it's beautiful out in San Diego(down at the parent's for the holiday). have a nice ride all, whether commuting or not! :D

felt good to be back on the bike again, it has been a few days. 14 degrees F, slight tail wind, pedaling in 24 gear most of the way, felt great.
|
the ride in this morning was alright... I just cleaned and lubed the chain/gears about half an hour before setting out so the ride was really smooth. I was going uphill toward a light and saw a kid on one of those little scooters riding down the street the wrong way. he shouted "yo, slow down" I was like "yo you're on the wrong side of the street" and he was like "yo slow down let me ask you a question" I was like nah and kept going and he shouted "******** cracker" as I kept going up the hill. had somebody tailgating me pretty close at one point. other than that it was your usual ride in.
the ride back was a night ride, since I had my night class today. second night ride with the helmet-mounted HID... good thing I remembered to charge it this afternoon. made pretty good time going back, took less rest stops and pushed myself harder than I usually did, especially on the big hill on my commute. light traffic, no problems, good ride back. |
Like ctoddrun, it was cold in Memphis. 23F at 6a on my way to work with snow/ice still on the road from the weekend storm and 34F going home a 5:30p. Folks think I have lost my mind but after being snowed in for two days and stuck on a wind trainer I had to get some real road time. Another 20 car miles saved!
It was 13F on Saturday evening! That's darn cold for Memphis!! |
It was 30F going into work this morning. I met up with another rider at the light waiting to cross the highway. Roadie in Pearl Izumi. First rider I've seen commuting with decent lights since I started riding to work. I said good morning, but I got snubbed. Oh well, it's good to see someone else riding. One of my coworkers asked why I didn't keep up with the roadie. Had to explain the difference between my MTB and the other guy's dropbar racer. I coulda caught him if I went all out, but he looked like if he turned it up he could drop me on my commuter like a bad habit if I had challenged. I need to get my roadbike ready to commute, it would be nice to trade off occasionally. Plus, sometimes I wanna be the Ferrari and not the SUV of bikes. ;)

fast&cold .

A comfortable 43F when I left the office yesterday. Record time on the ride home last night (again - second time in a row...) this time with the backpack and no tailwind. I guess the whole rest/recovery thing really does make a difference! I got what I thought was going to be a nasty calf cramp at about mile 13, and wasn't looking forward to walking the last 2 miles. But I managed to stretch it out a bit, and then it just disappeared about a mile later... Guess I should adjust my balance of coffee and water intake on days that I ride...

cold this morning arounf freezing, slight headwind from the north....brrrr. Just missed a big hail fall before leaving at 06.45. but got caught in another heavy hail shower before reaching work at around 07.30ish ....ouch that hail; stings the face a bit. Other than that a decent run in, and looking forward as ever to the return leg, hopefully tail wind assisted...yipee.
Stay safe everyone. |
Mid teens (F) and an annoying headwind. I saw a group of ducks swimming around the lake in open water, surrounded by ice. I guess they're finding food. Must be warm enough that they don't feel like flying south this year.
There's enough daylight now that I don't need lights any more. Seems like we never got a real winter this year. |
First ride in four days, I'm such a bumb. I meant to get on the trainer over the weekend, but I had family over and I found new love in one of my old Online PC Shooters :D. The ride was fairly calm and it took mile to or so to get my "riding eyes" in to focus, the open car with guy just standing there helped .
Today's Epiphany: It's amazing how 26°F mid-winter doesn't feel nearly as cold as 26° early-winter. |
A bit foggy, but comfortable ride in this morning. Got a great workout chasing down and overtaking a fellow commuter and BF member. I won't mention names to keep from embarrassing ;). I hope the rain holds off for the rest of the week.
|
Easy ride today. =)
I tried to keep a 100rpm cadence for most of the trip, but I could only manage to keep it up there for 80% ... mostly due to slowing down @ red lights and maneuvering around cars making turns and slowing down in front of me .. lol I'm getting there ! |
