looks like its gonna rain sometime today. i may get lucky though and sneak to and from inbetween showers.
i woke up an hour earlier than i needed to. |
I think I saw snowflakes in my headlight riding home last night!!!
We've had rain, cold temps and wind for the last 4 days, with 3 more forecast. My upper body was warm in my new rain jacket with a fleece underneath, and I had my winter gloves on. But I was wearing shorts. Once I put shorts on in the early spring, I refuse to go back to long pants. That's just the kind of stubborn jackass I am. ;) |
It looked like rain on Thurs and Friday so the hot-dog racer's stayed home. It was a nice change. On Wednesday a stunt biker decided to hold traffic at the cross walk with various hops, turns etc...Held up 5 commuters at the crosswalk also.

Good both ways, hit green lights, it's all good.

I just know I'm gonna grow up to be one of those old farts who constantly complains about the weather. May as well get some practice.
The weather last week, and the predicted weather this week, is lousy. Cool and rainy every day, which means I have to wear warmer clothes, which I hate. I also can't ride my trike, because it *might* rain. Where is the sun? Where are my 16 C mornings and 26C afternoons? I should just move south and get it over with. |
Damp this morning. ~50F. It's not pouring rain up here in Burlington like it is further south. The roads & trail are still wet from last night though, so my bike has spooge all over it. A weird combination of sand and partially decayed detritus from trees.
Saw one cyclist heading the other way. |
Nice morning after the thunderstorms and hail that rolled through yesterday. Still wet in a few places but the sun was burning off the morning fog and it was nice and cool in the mid 50s. I had a guy right hook in front of me and pull into a business park and I was pissed he had done it so I followed him in and confronted him about it. He acted like he had the right of way and that I should have slowed down for him after he passed me. He kept telling me to watch out for cars and that he was driving a car so pay attention. He was the most bull-headed guy I had ever met. He didn't understand one bit that I had the right to be on the road and I asked him why he couldn't wait the 3 seconds it would have taken for me to get passed the instersection and he said why should he have to slow down for me  I eventually gave up after arguing with him for a few minutes and went on my way. I don't think he learned anything at all from me talking to him. I actually kept myself fairly calm the whole time too which was pretty amazing since I was fuming by the end of our little chat. He drives a big ass SUV and I ride by the same way almost every morning I ride and he has done this before and I am sure he will do it again. Some cagers just don't understand...

It was supposed to rain this morning, but it wasn't raining when I got dressed so I packed my raingear in my bag and got dressed. Before I got out the door, I heard the rain start. Now running late and faced with having to unpack my raingear, change and re-pack my work clothes into my bag, I made an executive decision and decided to work from home. It's the thought that counts, isn't it?

My first day at the commute. I am out of shape. 8 1/2 miles in one hour. I dismounted 5 times, sipped some water, stretched my muscles and walked in some steep zones. By the time I am in better shape (15-20 miles/day) the ride will take less than an hour and I will dismount less, maybe never! Cars were very polite, I am lucky compared to the luckysnafu. My only complaint is I hit a hole on my way downhill so it was a rough bump. I will check the pressure before I leave today...
All in all I am satisfied. |
FAST ride in today. It was warm, clear, and there was no wind. I just about got taken out by a car turning right in front of me. He gave a quick look to his left, saw no cars and made his turn. I locked up my rear wheel and did a power skid up to his left side mirror, then did a fast sprint around traffic on the left and tucked in behind a bus. It was an exciting way to start the day.

Short ride today, woke up with barely enough time to do the long ride AND stepped outside to 30 mph winds, so I called it. So instead I had a nice relaxing morning (I'm becoming a true morning person I think) and did the short route, was hard enough with those dang winds, and I overdressed too. Need to get me some leg warmers, cuz my ultra winter tights are too freakin warm!

I left work an hour early on Friday and saw a commuter leaving my company's other campus. Reeled her in and chatted as we rode. Nice lady. Lives quite a distance away; drives her car about halfway, then gets on the bike and does 13 miles on the bike. She said she's been doing it for about 3 weeks. Her schedule is an hour earlier than mine, unfortunately.
As for today, I had a guy in a pickup lay on his horn about 10 seconds before passing me and held it down the entire time he passed. Why he did it, I have no idea. This is on a road with 2 lanes in each direction and a center turn lane. Yes, I was taking the entire right lane (there's a gutter-and-curb on this road, plus sewer grates) but there was absolutely nobody in the left lane. <shaking head in wonder> |
Itsjustb: I thought that was just a Sacramento thing. Whenever I'm able to catch these yahoos at a light, I'll ask "Is there something wrong with the left lane?"
Friday I took a 15 mile detour home. Nice. No ride in this morning--carpooled in with Mrs. Caloso and the Wonder Twins, but I put the fixie in the back of the minivan so I could ride home. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to get another long detour. |
It was awesome! My first day commuting in - 18.2 miles of fun! Great way to start the day. I put my car on the market this past wknd, so I'm forced into bicycle commuting for a while, but really I would hardly use "forced" to describe spending an hour+ outside on my bike before work. Looking forward to the ride home already!

I woke up refreshed this morning even after a pretty tough ride yesterday. So I decided to bike in. Besides, I actually cleaned my trusty Trek 520 yesterday and I had to show it off (I uphold to a strict two-times-a-year cleaning regimen).
Slow going at first and the legs were rubbery but that was only for a brief while. We'll see how the legs feel this afternoon ... it's supposed to hit 90 today. |
Old Katy is now officially a 3 lane in one direction 2 lane in the opposite direction road. Officisaly becamse that this sunday :p It's kind of confusing I've already gotten in the wrong direction when driving. It's kind of weird / annoying thouygh because the 3rd lane mysteriously drops off and there is no shoulder so I have to fight to get a place on the road due to the lack of a shoulder. I dcan't believe those idiots watched me cycle by for a month or so without bothering to put even a ****ing shoulder on there. It will be interesting to see how the ride back will be. Hopefully it will be easier.

Great ride this morning. Just cool enough for arm warmers, vest, and full finger gloves for the first half of the ride.
Graduation at the university I ride through. Not much extra traffic but lots of parents and family on the sidewalks, stepping off the curb without looking. :crash: A "much younger than me" commuter (looked to be about 28-30) pulled up beside me at the light at the east entrance to the campus. He was way too slow. Left him at the light. He caught up with me 1.2 miles later in the usual traffic backup. Passed me in the left turn lane and made a right turn at the light. I wonder if he does this every day? Great example of a law abiding cyclist. http://users.telenet.be/eforum/emoticons4u/mad/011.gif No wonder so many motorists get pissed at cyclists. The rest of the ride was great. Saw a few other commuters. It's National Bike Week!!! http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoti.../happy/050.gif |
National Bike Week?
Hmmm wish i saw more people commuting to work here. But This is Houston the town that supposedly loves their cars. |
In a word "WET", I had to pull up the front wheel at last second to prevent flipping over a submerged pothole.
|
RonH,
All the cars are polite. It's the drivers that are butts. |
Lately things have been OK. Oddball closepasses at the stranges of places, but nothing really.
73F in the morning, 103F in the afternoon. Dry. Al |
Ok -- I guess global warming is screwing with the weather.
It was cool enough when I left work (5:00 PM) that I needed the vest. My summer weight jersey just wasn't warm enough when I rode through a few shady stretches of road. Other than unexpectedly cool temps, a good ride home. One of the wrenches from a LBS slowed to say hello to me through the open passenger window of his car. Doesn't he know it's Bike Week???? The weather folks are saying it will be 90F (32C) by next Monday. Hmmm, 46F tomorrow morning, 90F next week. I don't get it. http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoti.../crazy/349.gif |
