Legs have felt spent after a weekend of plane and car travel and some weight lifting sessions. Saw three people on the ride home last night which was nice even if I didn't get to say hi. Up early to do my first ride as a commuting mentor for the local transit authority. Strange experience. I've led many group rides for recreational cyclists but we're out in the country with no stop lights or traffic and it's easy to keep track of everyone. Commuting, I'm so focused on traffic and staying safe and used to being alone, it's difficult to maintain a reasonable speed, hold a good, unobstructive line and call out turns and hazards.

Ride home last night was fast- flying on the W&OD, tons of other bikers out there.

This morning tried a different route and got lost a bit, extending my normal 5.5mi/25min ride to over 40min.

Fantabulous morning ride, bright sun, mostly dry roads...I had to remember where I put my tinted lenses. No cager drama to speak of, the lights are still out at the B.U. Bridge but I managed ok. I can't wait to hammer out 25 miles after work.

My average speed is finally climbing due to two items:
1) Body is adapting to the 45 mile RT commute
2) I started watching my cadence and now stick to 90 is a min and 105 as a max. Below the min I shift up. Above the max I downshift. At least I think that is how the terminology goes.

The commute this morning was great....until I blew a spoke. Never happened to me before. Fortunately it happened just as I reached my building.

The bike shop two doors down from my afternoon appt. is backed up, so I'm trying to find a way from the other bike shop (more like 2 miles from the appt.) to the appt.

hads to ride back to work late last night. i was in a rush and really pushed it. i think i burnt my lungs out a little bit and today i have a hangover quality head ache.

day off and i wanted to put in 30 or so, maybe it will just be 10

Another pre-dawn ride today. It was cooler than yesterday, but I was moving pretty quickly and was sweating pretty hard by the time I got to work. I passed a roadie on the flats. This wouldn't be remarkable, but he was hammering in the drops, and I was on my SS. I have mad skills?!

Did 20 home yesterday. It was a really nice day, and lots of cyclists out, I was very nice to them all, dispite their lack of awareness on the trails. One lady was overtaking a runner and I broke hard to give her room cuz she didn't know I was coming. Then at the last second (after she had already pulled out and would have cut me off if I hadn't seen it coming said "oh i'm so sorry" I smiled and said "it's alright, your fine, I'm just glad to see more people on bikes" It made me feel really good.

Then I was almost to my house and I cross over a pedestrian bridge. Long before I reached it I saw two ladies walking dogs who were going to reach the bottom first. In classic pedistrain iodicy they took up the entire width of the bridge, and dispite my yelling, loud whistling and calling out to them, didn't notice me untill I was about 5 feet from them. Then did the typical ped panic and actually got their dog leashes wrapped around themselves, caused me to unclip part way up the ramp, and in to high a gear to start up from a dead stop, then gave me a nasty look and made comments as I walked by pushing my bike and shaking my head. It was all I could do not to chew their asses. But I'm trying to be a nice cyclist :-)

Ride in this morning was short, my wife and I went shopping for new shoes for our Vegas trip this weekend, that and a trip to the mall for a new phone charger got us home kinda late and I just set my alarm in time to take the shorter route. The company I work for had a tent set up close to work with fruit, granola bars, gatorade and juice, "guess the gas price next year" game, free raffle for cheezy bike prizes, and friendly faces. Funny, i've never SEEN so many people biking to work in the 2 years i've been riding! They must have smelled free stuff! Also funny that just yesterday I was trying to look up what the company was doing for bike to work week this year, and couldn't find anything...must have missed the memo.

Lastly, the shower room I use (have yet to see more than about 1 guy a week using it besides me this year) was FULL when i got there, and had 2 people waiting to use the 3 showers when I left! I dubbed today "trendy people ride their bikes to work day".

I'm gonna miss the ride of silence here, but I'll be there in spirit.

56F when I rode wearing a t-shirt and jeans. I got to work soaked w/ sweat. And it's not even hot out yet. I hope our new office has a shower, but somehow I doubt it. The ride in was uneventful except for a half-mile sprint where I took the entire lane and caught all the green lights to where I turn off. That was nice, but probably added to the sweatiness.

Crashed for the first time on the road since commuting last Friday. We were riding on this almost-ready-to-be-paved section of road that was closed off to traffic until Friday. Friday morning the newly paved road was open to traffic, so we knew Friday evening we'd have a bit of a different route somehow. Well, of course it was all new and different and confused every driver on the road; not to mention the fact that for us it was way more crowded on the road since we were riding home an hour earlier than normal. Needless to say we couldn't safely cross over to get to the old side of the road that was now closed off (they're widening the street) so we stayed in the skinny lane with drivers, which thoroughly either confused or angered everyone around, but I was trying to get up on the white curb to ride as opposed to the new asphalt. Forgot I had a locked out fork and skinny tires and as I tried to go up the inch gap I just crashed into the curb and dirt shoulder. Luckily no road rash, just a few scrapes and bruises.

Otherwise commuting has been fine. Legs are dying this week. Will probably have to go down to commuting 3 days a week to recover from leg day on Tuesday at the gym and get ready for riding approx. 30 miles and climbing 6000 ft. over the weekend on the mountain bikes.

hahaha. That sucks.
They did that on this big road that my apartment is by. And while it's not confused the drivers a 3 lane road where i pull onto from my apartment turns into a 2 lane road with no shoulder. So needless to say I have to some how navigate my way into the 2nd lane with traffic competing for my lane

Not much new to report. I've settled into the 3-day-a-week commuting scheme with a longer group ride on Thursdays. I pile on a long ride on my roadie on the weekends. I think I'm up to about 100 or so miles a week on average.

I miss san antonio I was easily putting 150 miles a week in the summer. I'm getting about 60 miles a week commuting

A lady pulled out in front of me and nearly cut me off today.

She had a "Share the Road" bumper sticker on her car.

I thought about flipping her off and saying, "Share This!"...

- but I resisted the urge.

Gee, I was so busy at work today (still at work) I forgot to post anything.
The traffic was the same on a few roads, lighter on others.

I wore my HHCMF shirt (orange) today. Sure was bright in the 9:00 sun. I think motorists could see me for blocks.

Heading out for the Ride of Silence in a few minutes.
Not sure if any other BF members will be there. Maybe my HHCMF shirt will "identify" me if any other BF members are there.
I heard from one who is doing the other ROS. We're having two rides that I know of in different parts of town. Last year I believe we had 4 rides.

yesterday said 25 celsius when i went past the display - at 9:30 am. oy. heat doesn't seem to be my element for bike commuting. pumped my tires a little before coming home yesterday, and tried to eat ice all day long, but i think ima have to face facts and start drinking water again. not really a water fan, me.

the ride home was nice though. i didn't leave until 7:30 or something, so it was cooling down and i got a bit of incipient-sunset and some wind as i crossed the bridge. nice n peaceful. light on water is good.

today i drove due to ball game, and as usual there's a traffic whammy on the days when i drive to save time. the city's car fiends should all club together and pay me to bike everywhere, a new kind of protection racket. missed my kid's 'beautiful bunt', but i did get to see him steal home in a glorious cloud-of-dust slide. two days left in this week.

Got home last night from the ROS at 9:10 PM. Had to be up this morning at 5:45 AM. I'm tired.
Gonna be a slow ride to work today. No hill charging for me.

Lots of rain today, but fortunately quite warm; other than getting waterlogged, it was a fairly comfortable ride for a rainy one.

It was actually pouring so hard when I got to the MUP part of my trip that my bell made a nearly in-audible "plink" sound rather than its regular "ding." Never even considered rain performance when picking a bell...
