ACK! Today was a cluster-foo of issues, half way to work I had to turn back and take the car WAH

but yesterday was awesome :)

Had to leave the O early for my annual eye doc appt.... the receptionist knows I work at a law firm and she saw me pull up on my bike.. sooo... I had quite an audience and had my opportunity to advocate :D

one of the girls who worked there said it might be something she'd consider trying...
I dunno if she will, but all the positive feedback was nice http://www.omba.org/forum/images/smiles/toothy4.gif

So...I got two different kinds, one has chocolate chips, dried cranberry, walnuts, and apricots in it, and the other...OH BOY!! has peanut butter, honey, sesame seeds, raisins, and some other stuff...AND THEN! It’s dipped in confectioners chocolate (won't melt as easy as regular chocolate) THOSE ARE FREAKIN BAD ASS!

Would your wife mind shipping a few energy bars over here? Barring that, can I get the recipes?

I had my rear tube blow up twice today. First time was when a large metal (I'm assuming since it punctured an Armadillo) shard cut a rip in my tire that got to the tube. Fixing it was miserable. I kept sweating, and it was dripping all over my glasses. I did'nt dare wipe it cause I was wearing a white shirt for work (group picture day), and my hands were all grimy.

Second one was about 1.5 miles later. I just heard an explosion, and knew (instinct :p) that my rear had blown. Turns out that the tube had squeezed through the above said rip and blown. Well then I found out that I had'nt anymore spare tubes (funny cause I could have sworn I had two spares) so I had to call my brother come in his car and drop of two spares (Thank god I had plenty of tubes at home). I cut a section out of the old tube and used it as a patch, which has held up until now. My shirt is kinda dirty but not too noticeable.

Heh what a morning...

Nice ride today and yesterday, no dramas to speak of...that's it!

I love NY- what can I say?

I'm living too close to the place I'm working to justify biking to work so I'm walking to work but yesterday I had my first real day off since I got here and rode for 2.5 hours all around the city. Started at 20th Street cut over to the FDR path and wound all the way around and up to the Cloisters. Stopped in Harlem for a soda and a water and cut back over to the path on the West side for the trip back downtown. Had a great ride with "nymarathonman" (who hopped on my wheel-best way to either make a friend or foe- fortunately, he was friendly) for about a 1/2 hour at a fast pace and despite the high speed drivers, narrow streets and incredible road hazards- from twisted protruding bits of metal to huge potholes- I think it's a bike rider's paradise. Why would anyone drive a car here?

My ride was wonderful. It's going to be 103F by 5pm tonight but the mornings are perfect. Left the house at 6:10, swung by the office to drop off my bag, and then out on the ARBT for a car-free ride. I rode the roadie this morning and it felt light and fast. A No-Chain Day!

On the way back to the office, I stopped at a bakery (another LBS we should always support) for an apple fritter and the girl at the counter noticed my jersey (a Rona team jersey I got from probikekit.com) and she said, "Wow. You sure have a lot of sponsors!" I was going to say that it wasn't my team, that it was just a jersey I bought off the internet, but instead I started to go with it. I know that's lying by omission, but it was a nice compliment that she thought I was a pro (or at least a serious amateur).

If they're tasty you know you're obligated to share the recipe with us. ;)

Looks like rain. MTB again today haven't picked up new tube for commuter/roadie. Cane Creek shock on MTB is still leaking air (fully suspended setup) after it being rebuit by cane creek

Mariner Fan 06-21-06 01:02 PM

Nice ride to work. On the way home I got a flat. Figured I would just call my wife to get me but the cell phone was dead....oh well, put on the new tube and was on my way again but then was stopped by the longest train I ever saw. Bad part was it doubled back so I had to wait twice! Geez, doubled my commute time and I was tired and dirty when I finally got home. Note to self, need to put something in the bag to clean my hands after handling the chain getting the back tire off.

it was great until I got to my driveway. then all hell broke loose. I was trying to work the garage door opener with my right hand and steering with my left but the garage door wasn't opening fast enough for the speed I was going. I was going to slam into the door. so I braked. with my left hand. that's the front wheel, right? I grabbed it too hard and went flying off the bike. next thing I know, I make contact with the cement with my face and my forearm. ten stitches on my nose and some road rash. the bike is fine, I wasn't really going that fast. I wish I had a film of how I fell, and a better story. Stupid.

Glad to hear all is well though, unless of course your neighbor witnessed this!

None of the wobbly fair weather commuters seem to carry pumps so I walked for about a mile. I knew of a auto repair shop so I stopped there to use their compressor...I freaked out when at first I couldn't find my adaptor.

I see an O2 pump in my near future

You know there's a Landry's on Comm Ave now- not too far from the BU Bridge and at Comm Ave and Amory is the Ski Market or something and they have bike stuff and that's even closer, but you don't specify the time so maybe they were closed.

Funny, I loaned my pump to a rider yesterday (he was all decked out in pro-kit on a super bike- but no bike pump?!) and was surprised how many people just don't carry one- odd thing was I'd forgotten mine and then realized it and did the- "you never know" and took the time to head back and get it. Glad I did.

LOL... Thanks, Al, I don't think so but you never know! four months of commuting and my first accident is in my driveway! jeez.

Allen 06-21-06 04:31 PM

Hot...Crazy hot....98 degrees with 83% humidity hot. Sweat just makes you wet, and sticky, and burns your eyes with that kind of humidity.

I'll get the recipes up soon, she found them online I think they are very tasty, and looked fairly easy to make. (just mix up and bake!)

It's hot again today, 94 degrees right now, the saving grace is only 6% humidity :-) gotta love the desert region for some things!

Everyone have a safe ride home, I'm off for more cake and ice cream tonight, oh, and bowling, it's league night.

105 heat index in Memphis. 91 on the ride home. UGH!!!!! New sighting. A very nice BMW 740 delivering PIZZA!!! Now I know I have seen everything! That ugly plastic pizza sign stuck on top with wire through the window! I looked and looked but yup, some kid driving Dad's nice shiney new 740 to deliver ZA! Give me a break! At least he could have stopped at my house :D

They say most accidents occur within 5 min. of home. :D Glad to hear your bike's ok. And you too I guess. :)

So my commute home was nothing to write home about. Talked to one of the other bike commuters in my building about my bike. He seemed to like it enough that he was considering getting his own. His bike's no slouch either, but his fixie friends must be putting the bug in his ear about it.

After I got home, I spent 2+ hrs. looking for a parking spot for my car. Alternate side of the street parking is a great way to keep the streets clean and the air polluted.

I'd congratulate you, but if you can ride 36 miles one way on your first commute, you're obviously a seasoned rider. Congratulations anyways and welcome to the HHCMF!

first and only major crash of my own was just a mere three blocks from my house. Happened after i got on my bike, forgot i had just got a track cog and installed it, rode down the block, tried to coast, but instead the pedals just lauched me up and off the bike.

Anyways, i had an interesting day, saw the new cannon capo, saw this huge running event in cp, that realy messed up the flow of cp, saw some guy do a stopie, on his second one on the nec]xt light the rear wheel came down and boom, his tire popped. Drank alot of coke today, so was feeling gassy, so i farted in a taxi that passed me on my right, and cut acroos to make a left, and then a few minutes later in a doble parked car, Ah it was a fun day......

jyossarian 06-21-06 09:37 PM

Yeah, what was that running event? I couldn't cut through the park b/c of it.

.:Jimbo:. 06-21-06 09:58 PM

No idea, but it was massive, and sponsored by morgan chase. Mangaged to snap a pic-

A great ride today, I got to see my new hero:

There is a jogger that I sometimes pass. He's got white hair, is at least 70, and wears a royal blue t-shirt with a fluorescent green cap. He runs carrying a CANE, every morning, even in the winter. He thinks my trike is the best thing ever; today he commented that "it's a dandy!" Indeed my friend, it is. I want to be like him when I grow up. Then I will be happy.

Big Ron 06-22-06 06:45 AM

A fine ride in this AM. Was clear and ~70F, quite humid. Supposed to get up to 95 today with heat index of 105 or so. Should be a pretty sweaty ride even if I take it easy.
