3 degrees F made me realize I didn't need to modify my pogies, just take the barends off. That made my hands much more comfortable. This was also the day I decided to wear my "Bugabootoo" boots instead of my winter Shimano boots. Since I have M324 pedals on my bike, I just use the non-SPD side. However, my boots have a steel shank that is definately noticeable. Overall, my toes were warmer than yesterday. Tomorrow is supposed to be about the same, at least I won't have to spend so much time thinking about what to wear. That is what I dislike the most about winter commuting.

A change of wind direction has killed the smoke! Yippee.

I was back on good terms with my beautiful commute again this morning. The South Pacific was just the right shade of blue. Now if it could just rain...

Nice warm ride this morning. Got to work sweaty for the first time in a long time. Microfleece is going back into the closet until the weather gets colder I think. I had a very nice commute. Not 1 incident with anyone this morning. Saw lots of students riding their bikes to ASU. I haven't seen another work commuter in a long time. Perhaps they are nearly extinct around here now.

Hi Folks

Bad luck Chewa...... That fits with the chilly northerly headwind we had further south.

I was feeling a little groggy today, and really ran out of steam on the last mile of the ride in. Hope that the trip back is better. Must also remember to avoid the potholes

Cheers,

Ed

Commute home was cold 12F, sunny and windy. Bike would not shift into all gears so I had a slow but enjoyable ride home. Bike is now thawing out on the porch for cleaning a lube.

From this morning's commute, Unclear On The Concept Award Finalist:

The security guard in the garage yelled at me to walk my bike to the rack. "Sir! You have to walk your bike. There are a lot of cars in here and it's for your own safety!"

Okaaaaayyyyy. How do you think I got here? I ride in traffic for 15 miles but let's be careful in that last 50 feet.

More of the same, 1.8F/-17C with light wind this morning. No problems shifting or with brakes. This is my 3rd winter commuting, although last year was so mild it hardly counts, and I have never had any cables freeze. I've had ice build-up on my rims that interferred with braking, but never frozen brakes. Likewise, I've never had any problems shifting gears. Maybe it's because my bikes are never parked outside, always in a basement.

My bikes freezes up all the time because I have to park outside at home and at work.
I have heard we are going to get some warm weather soon.

Another spanky cooling southerly wind this morning. It made for hard going at times (I was straight into it) but if it cools things down, I'm happy.

Hi folks,

Well, it was frosty here this morning. Beautiful and sunny too. The ride home should be dry, and I'm looking forward to getting out of here!

Have a good weekend,

Ed

Cold, cold cold. 10F with a head wind. I over dressed this morning; big mistake. I think my clothes created too much drag, I was slower, hotter, and more tired by the time I got to work.
Such is life in the winter I guess. Can't wait for the mountain bike ride tonight.

Caloso. So did you walk your bike that last 50 feet. That goes against the California motorist manual- Bikes and cars have equal access to roads unless otherwise posted. Maybe private property is different..?
I can be contankerous and fight for principal..

I was a bit cantankerous myself but not out of principle, just pissiness. I hopped off, hoisted it on my shoulder, and said something sarcastic like "Thank you so much for your concern."

After I locked it up I went over and talked to the guard and he said that what he was concerned about was that I had cut across a down ramp. This garage is one of those multi-level deals with up and down ramps on both sides. I had entered the garage at the entrance and cut across the ramp that dumps cars back on to the up part for another go-around. This is because the rack is next to the toll-booths at the exit.

I have to admit that it can be a pretty risky move but I told the guy that what I'll do from now on is just ride up the ramp just like a car, go all the way up and around the garage, and back down to the entrance. Just like a car. He didn't have much answer for that.

As for the public road thing, that's a good question. It's a city-owned garage, so I don't know. I'll have to do a little legal research.

Managed to get a ride in today. I'm down to only 2x a week now with various insane demands on my time, as well as b-ball Thursday nights, which requires a "down day" smack in the middle of the week.

Anyway, where was the traffic? And the deficit-ladened San Jose Light Rail sure didn't make any money today -- there were scant few people on the contraption. Oh well, more room for me.

Unlike many of the others in this thread, I've been riding in relatively balmy temps. And the rains of a few weeks ago have subsided. Downright nice biking conditions here in the Bay Area.

Riding tonight to my girl's b-ball game. Looking forward to it.

I didn't post last night's commute, so here it is. Friday night Queensland drunken redneck tosspot braindead mofo corpse-like *******s all over the place. I had to be at my evasive best to avoid them. Sometimes it's hard to figure out somebody else's intentions when they, themselves have no idea.

This morning's commute was pretty good 6 minutes for 1.5 miles some math whiz figure that one out for me what was the average

Talked to my brother who lives in ftworth tx last night the fool was complaining about how far it was to work and how everyone was tired of giving him rides.... Got online and it 4.5 miles...I told him that is an easy commute by bike go buy one gave him pointers on geting one. I really think he will for awhile anyway. 4.5 miles even thru ft worth rush hour should be pretty easy. Any way as I've mentioned before, I love weekend commutes little or no traffic so I can really enjoy my time on my bike.

Yesterday's ride to my daughter's b-ball game was very unusual. It's hard to explain but I was able to see much more clearly for far longer distances. Must have been the fact that it was the first daylight ride I've taken in quite some time.

I left work around 4:30 for the ride and rode the 13 miles in complete light. It was starting to get dark only when I arrived.

I have noticed over the past few weeks that the days are lengthening. Won't be too long before at least most of a ride is in the light.

the ride home tonight was awesome! due to the cold I have been discouraged from riding much the last few days, so tonight i resolved to ride an hour after work. well to start out with it was calm no wind at all. but i noticed when i turned around and headed back north toward home it was blowing really well. i stopped and put on my ski mask so my face would not freeze and got kinda bummed out that it was getting cold. I stuck it out put in an extra 15 miles and felt pretty good when i got home. as I was putting the bike away I thought about the wind the temps and the cars. sure it was a hassle sometimes tonight, but the ride was well worth the price of admission!

Actually ther are only 2 on this route and I hit em both just right hence the 6 minute ride time
usually with traffic and all this ride takes 10.
