Packed and churned up snow was on the roads this morning and the side streets were quite slippery and slow going. I got to work just at starting time, hardly time to get my helmet off before the day started. It warmed up to 40F/4C during the day so the snow melted off the roads pretty well. By the time I left at 8pm ice was just starting to form. I was able to roll home at a good speed.

Started off as a great ride. Perfect weather, felt good. So I decided to take a new, longer route to work. As I was looking for street names for my navigation, I hit a rather large pothole. Jarred my wrists and my butt quite good. I thought I would get a pinch flat. Nothing odd, so I kept riding. About a mile later, my rear wheel went flat.

I pulled off the road, and started my repair, when I noticed a crack in my rim. UGH! I had to cut my other planned extensions short as I was out of time, and was now dirty from the repair process.

I still am a strong believer in the latex gloves for the chain mess. But I found, latex gloves stain the spare tube really well, and I am not sure what other damage comes of it. So keep the gloves away from the spare tube.

Quite strange, actually. The roads in the DC area are nearly free of snow where they have been plowed. However, many streets are plowed only in a single lane, creating a challange for two-way traffic. Therefore, even though traction is not an issue, it can be very slow going in spots. Of course, some roads have not been touched at all -- just 18" (.5 m) of the densest snow you can imagine.

The snowpiles at the edges of the roads reach six feet or more in places. It is quite a beautiful sight -- a good thing, because the detours I must take add a mile or two to the trip.

Nice riding weather here today, tho' it was a bit misty this morning. Temperature was above freezing at last and now the sun is out I wish I'd carried on riding for the day....

I actually got two rides in this week!!! The other day was an excellent ride in with rain. Today was a short 7-miler in but tonight I'm going all the way again. Gorgeous weather here in the Bay area today. I just passed 2000 miles on my Trek 520.

not too bad this am put new pedals on the bike over teh last 2 days off so my feet stay on much better....for a monday ...errr friday its pretty good

Awesome indian summer weather here in Maine. Temps have been above freezing during the morning commute and 40-45F on the way home, with a gentle southern breeze. To think, the first day of spring is a mere month away.

Sunny cloudless morning. Nice easy ride. My Vastus Medialis on my right leg was complaining today so I tried to appease it. I will see how the ride home feels, and if I feel good I'll hunt down an extra 5 miles somewhere.

Commute , What commute.
I've been laid low with the flu, so not only have I not been to work,I've been unable to use all of the free time cycling.

Still I'm getting better at using my son's Gamecube.

Rode in steady rain this morning. Ahhhh! It was bliss! Just looking at Currumbin Creek this morning, I'd suggest this might finally be starting to do something about the drought (this is the first month for two years in which we look like getting above average rainfall). It's still raining now, and hopefully it will keep raining forever!

Forgot to mention I had a great ride home Friday night. 20 miles. I noticed a little bit of a tailwind ... unusual for this time of year if I recall. It's going to be a month or two before I get the steady tailwind home. It was nice to have a little on Friday.

It stopped raining on the ride home, but it's raining again now! :D

Oh yeah, our water supply at Hinze Dam is currently at 30.46% capacity, the highest it's been in 2003!

A change in the weather here in the UK today. It has warmed up, but was unpleasently damp and misty this morning. Funny though, I always manage to enjoy the ride...

OK, so it was my maiden voyage of the year and my first ride since November sometime. Windy, cold, unpleasant. I hacked out a good 14 miles though and prepared for a good night's rest. I wanted to sleep on my air mattress for some reason, inflated it and went to slumberland. I woke up at about 1am to find my cat had come in and "made biscuits" on the mattress, leaving me flat on the hard floor.

-38C (-36F)... :rolleyes: But still made it on my bike!!!!!! :eek: It was veryyyy tough going, but I made it in one piece. By the time I got here (work) my feet were on the brink of freezing, but the rest of me was quite warm.

Threat of rain, but none to be had. Good to get back into a rhythm.

Hit 3000 commuter miles last week! Also had one killer tailwind on the way home on Thursday night. I had a nice ride in. A coworker offered me a lift but I declined as it was such a beautiful morning and I was still enjoying my new eggbeaters. I am looking forward to the ride home. It is so nice to have new pedals that actually hold my feet on the pedal (like clipless pedals are supposed to).

Didn't ride in this morning. Found a huge crack in the rear rim while washing the commute bike on Saturday. Bought a new wheel and planned to switch the cassete and tire Sunday night. Then discovered that I need a special tool to deinstall and reinstall the cassette. It'd probably be cheaper and faster to have the LBS do it, but I like the idea of buying another tool.

Now my morning commutes are threading my way through the ice ruts. Evenings are fine, the roads melt down during the day and are just starting to puddle & ice up, but by morning everything is frozen solid. The snow banks are trapping the runoff on the roads so every low spot floods. The late night traffic makes the ruts for me for the next morning, except that keep shifting slightly in location. Now the potholes are starting. I hope those road crews can get out soon. For now, I'm glad I left the stock front shocks on VR. The jolts are hard on my bad shoulder.

Wet ride home, to start, from earlier rains in area. Then, about 8 miles into commute home it rains like hell !! This went on for about another 8 miles, at which point I am absolutely drenched. Then it lets up a little, then rains like hell again about 2 mikles from my house.

AND I LOVED IT !!!

Started getting a little chilled since I was soaked through but otherwise had a blast.

Back on the bike today after a 2 week absence, ! week due to weather , 1 week due to standby for work. It was a little chilly, -15 C or +5 F with a slight headwind. Had to stay on the major roads, 6" of snow over the weekend, hadn't been pushed back to the curbs yet. Had to "take the lane" on occasion, drivers were their usual courteous selves. Fingers and toes got a little chilled, but overall, a nice ride in! Got to see the beginnings of a beautiful sunrise over the ice of Hamilton Harbour and then the water of Lake Ontario. Spring is getting closer!!

We are getting into sugaring season here in Maine. This calls for warmer days and cold nights. The result is black ice from re-freezing melt off all over the place. No wipe outs yet, but it is just a matter of time.

tchhazzard - that sounds like a nightmare!

It is a nice warm sunny day here - really good weather for the ride this morning, except that I have a head cold starting and don't feel so enthusiastic about anything just now.
