Had a nice commute this morning, the calendar say's spring but here in Minnesota we know better. None the less, the roads are good, the snow is mostly gone, spring is coming... it's in the air, I can smell it.

Jean Beetham Smith 03-21-03 07:57 PM

Very spring like rain this morning. Lots of mud along the road. The snow is retreating fast now. This evening was very foggy in the low lying spots. The thermoclines were very noticable as I went up and down hills. The fog was very pretty, the kind that rolls down the hill and lies in wisps that move across the road in other places. It started me thinking, many of the things that are so beautiful, make it dangerous to ride. Is that the price we pay to see such things?

Took a longer route home and got some serious hill climbing in, too. 27 miles total. I'm bushed from all the running and biking. I'll take tomorrow off.

After 3 consecutive days of meeting up with a friend to hammer out 25 miles before work, I just had a casual ride in to work and back. Beautiful day today. One of those days that reminds me to be grateful that God made me a Californian. :)

I had a good commute today. It was raining when I got up , but stopped before I left for work. It has been raining most of the week so it was a nice change. I really did not want to ride in slop today. I am glad it cleared up, but man was it windy coming home. I got a good workout taking that head wind with the ol' singlespeed.

An extrordinary happening on my commute in this morning.

A beautifull wall to wall sunny morning, passing under the by-pass bridge and a shrub area beyond, when a noise and scuffle , and out of the shrub a Red Squirell lept at me, I was completely taken aback when it grabbed onto my lower leg and hung on for a couple of turns of the pedals, released itself and scooted off into the verge again.

I was astonished at the reason for such behaviour of a normally very shy creature, I cannot understand what possesed it to attack me in such a manner.

I also assumed they were virtually mute animals, but whilst this event was happening it was making the harshest and chattering noises imaginable.

Thats the thanks I get for being in the local Red Squirrel watch protection society. :D

Might be time to shave the legs again:D :D :D

Geez, the only things that attack me like that are magpies and leeches sometimes.

Sailguy 03-23-03 09:49 PM

willic, maybe now you'll see my point of view. All squirrels are evil, and are plotting to take over the world! That was just one attack of the many that happen worldwide on a daily basis. Beware!! ;)

Nice day, no wind, light traffic, easy cruise to work.

mtessmer 03-24-03 08:42 AM

Ahhhh, beautiful ride in this morning. I hung my winter bike over the weekend and took my summer ride to work this morning... sweet. Beautiful sunrise, crisp clean air... life is good.

Hi Folks,

We're having lovely weather here in the UK at present - so much so that I have decided to switch to the posh "summer" wheels on my good bike. This will of course have cursed the weather for weeks... :)

Nice ride in this morning although I was a bit stiff from yesterday's ride.

Cheers,

Ed

20 mile ride in today straight from home. Very nice.

Paul L. 03-24-03 11:01 AM

First commute free of any layers (other than the usual attire of course!). Had a beautiful ride in after several days on no riding (went backpacking). Had unusual strength in my legs this moring with no tailwind to boot! Think maybe all this riding and a rest must have done some good!

Sailguy 03-24-03 12:04 PM

Took a very slow ride this morning. I was still sore from Saturday's ride, so I did this mornings ride in recovery ride mode. The weather was breathtaking. Other than feeling like I was hardly moving, and my legs complaining, I had a good ride.

I am glad I rode. I was very close to driving this morning and it took all of my willpower to get on the bike.

Hants Commuter 03-24-03 02:58 PM

Very nice commute today. Roads were quiet evening for early morning and I had enough time to take a longer route home into the bargain. Isn't commuting great.

Nah - just wait another couple of weeks to the cricket season then it will be monsoon time;)

Very nice commute. A bit chilly to start (35F) but had no problems keeping warm. Got buzzed by about 1 foot by some idiot in his SUV going at least 40mph (the speed limit). After yelling some obscenities, I had enough adrenaline to hammer the remaining 10 miles to work and made really good time. :)

was surprisingly cold this morning (low mid 40s) given that it is supposed to be in the mid 70s today - absolutely steamed in today - lots of bikers out this morning, I must have passed about 10

my bike is definitely beginning to show the effects of age and a hard winter - I think its time to leave it at the LBS for some TLC

Ed Holland 03-25-03 08:28 AM

Hi Folks,

Good commute this morning despite the traffic through the centre of town.

The weather is great today so the ride home looks promising.

Cheers,

Ed

Nice day, 30 degrees this morning and about a 4 mph head wind. good ride all the way in under clear skys, saw nothing unusual.

Paul L. 03-25-03 11:23 AM

SPent some quality time with the bike this morning. Pulled the cassette off to replace a broken spoke. Cleaned it while it was off. Tightened the cable in the rear brake. Had a nice tailwind on the way in to work. Absolutely gorgeous day. Started out just a bit chilly at 20 mph in shorts but soon warmed up. Found myself draining sweat out of my helmet for the first time in a while.

mtessmer 03-25-03 11:30 AM

A little cool this morning, 35F (2C) but it's going to get well into the 50's, the sun is shining. I took the long way in this morning and it was very nice. I might take a ride along the river at lunch time and if all goes well I'll take the long way home. My recently tuned summer bike is running really sweet. Life is grand.

Sailguy 03-25-03 11:31 AM

I have been feeling a bit exhausted. So I didn't ride today. I think I did a bit much last week, so one day off for me.

Andy Dreisch 03-25-03 12:33 PM

Last night was pretty chilly but a nice tailwind on tired legs. Got 3/4 the way home and had a flat. First flat in transit in many months though I've gotten a couple in the past couple months after the trip (slow leak).

Although I was prepared to change it right there, I wimped and called for the "SAG vehicle" instead. (It's nice to have a supportive wife!!!) Didn't feel like messing with it at the time. I'll change it tonight.

No ride today, though I ran early this morning. Nice to mix things up. Also, since I'm not playing basketball at the moment I can get in more rides!! So I'll ride in tomorrow.
