I was expecting the big storm in Northern Cal to blow through Orange County today, but it was a no show. Rode a 27 mile round trip today under cloudy skies, fairly calm, and an almost balmy mid to upper 50s. Even had to stop half way to work and take off my outer layer shirt and stuff it in the big seat bag. Have a great weekend.

My coldest ride of the season yesterday, also. Got down to 18F. I had toe warmers and three shoe covers on! I'm such a wimp! The commute was fine, otherwise. I tried out some new Castelli wind/water resistant shoe covers on the inside layer - meh. My toes always get cold no matter what I do.

Tomorrow and Tuesday the temperatures here in the DC area are going to be in the 60's. Holy cow - that's almost shorts weather. The morning temperatures will be about 45 degrees, so shorts wouldn't be a terribly smart idea.

This is more of a how was your week post...

The weather has been stellar and the roads are getting really clear so it almost feels like spring... I spent most of the week on the fixed mtb 'cause I simply love riding that bike and then used my Trek 7500 cross conversion for Friday and Saturday's commuting as I really wanted to get out and put the hammer down while the roads were clear.

If this keeps up I will be taking my summer commuter (a fixed road bike) out next week.

Overcast today - warm and muggy.

Great ride in though. There were loads of people out on their bikes this morning - I guess everyone's New Year Resolution is to get the bike out of the garage and get fit. Will be interesting to see how many are still on the roads by February! Still, it was nice to see so many bikes out there. Keep it up, everyone!

Also +1 to Gatorskin tyres today. Still lots of glass around after NYE, and going over Anzac bridge I ran over some, and then heard a 'tick, tick, tick' as the wheel was going round. Stopped, and checked the type. A small piece of glass had embeded itself, point-side first, into the tyre. Pulled it out, and all was well. With my old tyres, that would have been a puncture for sure. Hurrah!

Finally I did absolutely no exercise at the weekend at all - literally sat on my backside for two days. I though I might be stiff, but it seems to have done me good - I powered in this morning. (Thinking about it, perhaps I wasn't that quick, but as there were more slower cyclists on the roads I just felt more powerful! Muahahahahaa!)

Insanely warm today - 48F when I left the house at 05:00! Made for a nice ride in; no winter shoes and one less layer.

Looks like big time traffic is back with a vengeance here in the DC area.

Nice and warm this morning-50's in the DC metro. I wore my long sleeve jersey and a fleece vest and was perfectly comfortable. Got cut off by a Virginia Power truck as I was coming down Mount Vernon, I know he had to see me, I felt like turning around and chewing him out but decided it wasn't worth the time. The rest of the ride was uneventful and fast with a nice tailwind. Should be a nice couple of days with temps in the upper 60's, sweet.

Temperature was about 45F on my morning commute -- nearly 30 degrees warmer than Friday morning. The afternoon high is supposed to hit 70, nearly 40 degrees warmer than last Weds-Thurs. It's hard to dress for all these temperature fluctuations. I wore a light long-sleeve jersey this morning with a vest, which I can put in my seat bag for the afternoon commute. Tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer, possibly a record high.

The morning commute was nice and my legs felt strong despite riding a lot of miles over the weekend. Must be the warmer temps. There was patchy fog that kept fogging up my glasses, making it difficult to see at times. I probably would have been better off wearing no glasses at all, but I don't like going without eye protection, plus I need the glasses for vision correction.

40 degrees here in Burlington, Vermont, and my first bike commute in a few weeks. The MUP is unrideable due to snow. It's not packed enough, and the warm weather has made it very mashed-potato-ish. I took roads instead. I had to use the MUP for less than a mile, so I walked that part.

Supposed to be above freezing into the weekend, (50s F! ) with rain the next couple of days, so maybe the MUP will clear out enough to ride easily. Still no studs necessary.

weird how warm it got here. I busted out my fair-weather commuter with the slicks. So much faster than the winter MTB.

I've had better days, it was nice and warm, around 65, but real WINDY. Then about 4 miles in my new horn, which I apparently didn't tighten enough, fell off. I had to stop dig out the multi tool and re-install it. At the 8 mile mark hit a down pour, just enough to soak me, then at 12 miles i rode across and intersection and pick up some glass in the rear tire and flatted. patched that and the rest of the 21 miles was uneventful. Over all it was a great start to the year.

First commute since December 17th. First the baby got a stomach virus, then I got it, then a week off for the holidays, followed by me getting pneumonia.

I rode today despite still hacking up a lung. Other than coughing the entire ride, it was completely uneventful.

Warm and foggy this morning, in the low 50s. So nice to be able to ride, it's been very very cold here for the past week and I don't have cold weather gear so I haven't been riding. Felt good to get back on the bike.

First commute for me since sometime in Dec. Great weather - temps around 50 degrees, and sunny. High today will be 68 degrees .

Ran over a squirrel - it dashed out on the trail ahead of me, stopped and then it should have zigged, but instead it zagged. Poor little bugger was done for, I think.

Fought a good headwind for about 7 miles, which made the ride in a lot harder. The way home I ought to have a tailwind, so it all evens out.

At the office, we have showers and lockers in the basement. When I went in, there were two other guys who from the looks of it had also ridden to work.

Still fatter and slower than I would like .

First commute of the new year. Fresh legs feel fine. Had a wrong way rollerblader to contend with in the narrow space between a bus and a line of traffic. We passed each other w/o incident when he ducked in between cars long enough for me to pass.

12 degress C out today, from -12 a few days ago. Even though it was wet from all the snow melting and the drizzle, i had a great commute and wore a short sleeved short and a hoodie on top. Can't wait for spring/summer

A mostly overcast day today after weekend rain storms, but the 27 mi RT commute today was pretty tame. It was a calm 50F this morning, and upper 50sF on the ride home this afternoon.

Breezy and overcast in the 50s both morning and afternoon. Everything still wet after quite a bit of rain. The ferry was delayed while waiting for a cruise ship to dock. Still beats driving on the freeway.

Wow, what a day for a ride. I haven't ridden in to work since November, and today the weather finally got me motivated. Sure beat the subway!

It was lovely, as I went in the afternoon just to drop by the office - then went on to the LBS from there for kit browsing. 40 degrees(ish), dry and a strong headwind - but I didn't have to carry anything today. What a difference that makes!
