Paradis Regained? I tried an old route i had given up on once again and found it to be almost completely devoid of cars. I guess the opening of a new major highway eliminated the volume on these back roads. It was awesome... there were some streches of road 5 or 6km where i didn't see one car.

Cold but not frosty. Damp!!! I was considering wimping out on taking my nice clean drivetrain (new chain from this past weekend, scrupulous cleaning of crankset and cassette) into the muck, riding backup bike instead, but went for it and it was good, and not too messy. Driving company car home tonight for long roadtrip tomorrow.

Brought out my touring bike today - whee! that's a fast bike compared to the Raleigh! I'm getting used to the drop handlebars, and (mostly) keeping my shoulders from tightening up.
I'm feeling a bit odd in the toeclips, as I am used to keeping my feet more centered on flat pedals and with the clips I feel like I am pedaling on tiptoe. I'm also not very good at spinning. I think I may need some help in getting my seat height adjusted correctly and learning better pedaling form. My upper thighs were WAY tighter than they should have been. |
Beautiful cool and clear morning. NOAA said there was a 20% chance of rain but in reality it was 0%. I rode the fendered fixed gear; I'm tempted to take off the fenders for the season, which is a good way of ensuring we get at least one more good rainstorm.

I am doing a half-day, and so I rode in during the lunch hour. It was fargin' cold! I swear it's above freezing, but I just got chilled. I hope it's better on the way home...
|
30 km ride into work, it's windy and cold out but no rain (although the roads are wet).
|
Sensational morning today; blue sky, sunshine and cool. In fact, it was cold - my toes were actually getting chilly. (Note cold in the context of Sydney autumn is about 13C!)
I watched a motorist almost take out a chick on a bike just up ahead of me - just turned into her, saw her at the last minute and stopped a few inches from her as she rode past. She seemed oblivious; a bit futher on she just sailed through a red light without looking too, so perhaps she was in a world of her own... |
here we go again!
re-started commute after bridge(s) repaired and bike re-tooled. with headwind this am, and pushed home pm, it felt good to be recycling to work! there were 3 closer than comfort calls, one driver stated "sorry" and corrected from left-hook. i saw no other bicyclists on these am/pm rides and felt isolated, questioning this ratio with gasoline at $3 to $3.25 per gallon, but that's another post... :-) . i missed the challange! tomg |

Let's see, it was about -5C on my way in this morning, +5C when I traveled from the college to the Girl Guide hall at 5pm, and heading back down to the 3C range when I biked down to the light rail station to go home. Beautiful day though, sunny and not much wind. The mud on part of the trail was frozen though, that was a little hairy. |
the rides are nice without the studded snow tires on the bike.
riding in the morning on the road- Comm Ave mostly and the bike path (as far as BU) then out to Comm Ave again. Very pleasant night time commute tonight. The river's gorgeous. Love it at night- and it ain't too bad during the day, too.;) |
Took the Aksiums off the road bike yesterday and put them on my commuter. What a difference! Between that, a lighter load due to the great weather (50f), no headwind for a change, and a younger Jens Kidman yelling in my ear the whole way, I managed to shave about 10 minutes off the normal 9 mile commute.
Wonder how long it'll take to destroy these wheels with the abuse of commuting and general getting around the city (~9000 roadie miles currently). |
Fine ride in this morning. New battery for the Cygo Lite seems to be working just fine ($20 at Batteries Plus). No issues or problems with bike, body or any other vehicles.
|
Good ride in for me as well. They're forecasting 30 mph wind gusts this afternoon, which I am not looking forward to.
|
Warmest weather in quite a while, but I was colder than usual on my morning commute. The problem is dressing warm enough for 40s in the morning but highs near 80s in the afternoon.
Saw another bike commuter on my way to work for perhaps the second time in a year. Must be a newbie because he was dressed in dark colors, with no headlight or tail-lights, and wearing a backpack. It's nice to see other bike commuters, but it doesn't take much common sense to realize that you need to make yourself visible to cycle in traffic when its nearly dark outside. Hope he didn't get hit by a car. |
Sweet ride in today. The weather is a little warmer (although we're supposed to get snow tonight :P). Saw two friendly commuters on my way and the cars weren't too aggro. Plus the bike just felt FAST (could be because I just pumped up the tires and the front was pretty low).

pleasant riding this morning
very little wind and i felt like i had power legs, my commute starts uphill and i felt great didnt see any other bike commuters and i could easily get by cars and no one was angry...its always nice when you are not being honked at...more room to ride too! i think it was 30f when i left the house, i think i overdressed a bit but i was pretty comfy i love just the right amount of air pressure in the tires, nice feeling looking forward to the ride home! |
Excellent easy ride this morning. 60's and sunny. I've been riding with a fellow train commuter, Bob, who bikes the same route as me to work in Irvine. It's cool to have someone to chat with in the morning and it makes the few miles fly by. (If you're out there, good luck at your mtn. bike race this weekend Bob!)

Hung over.

My commute now rocks, i can't believe i never tried the back roads after the henday opened up! Picture deserted country roads almost all the way. No stinking exaust and the only honking i hear is from the returning canadian geese.
|
A bit of a headwind this morning. I'm looking forward to the ride home.
|
Two cagers yelled at me to get off the road, one adding 'before you get yourself killed', in the span of less than a minute.
Granted, I did have a bit of chain skip limiting me to 20 km/h where I normally do 30 km/h in that stretch, but still, that was uncalled for. |
Another great day to ride to work. A mild 28F in the morning and a great sunny day with light winds and 40F going home. Sounds like the weekend is going to be a bit warmer.
|
Really fricking humid. I think weather.com said it was 98% or something.
And it was in the high '60s, but felt 10 degrees hotter b/c of the humidity. One of my Nalgene bottles made the ultimate sacrifice as well. (Well, the cap did.) It doesn't fit in the cage so I had it in a bottle pocket on my backpack and it fell out while I was sprinting. I looked back but didn't want to turn around in the heavy traffic so I retrieved it on the side of the road later today. The cap was bent into a V but the bottle (though slightly scratched) was none the worse for wear. I'm gonna keep buying their products. As for the bottle pockets, I'll be a bit more careful. |
You all can blame me for the snow that's coming down now... I took my studs off yesterday
|
great ride in today - except for the headwind. Yesterday's was equally as enjoyable. Been going in to work later these past couple of days so I have had daylight going both ways for a change.
Looking forward to the ride tonight 10-11 pm or so - nice and quiet and usually a total of 5 vehicles pass me |
