Beautiful day here on Coastal Maine. Even the breeze stayed off shore, so 62F felt like it's supposed. Glorious, sunny, great day to be at the beach, except of course I had to ride to work...

You know, it takes a lot of screwing around with streets and stuff to mess up a bike commute, but DC has managed again. This morning's fun involved a street closing pushing me onto a busier street and a tractor trailer attempting to back in to an alley, and doing a horrible job of it.

Also, I made the classic blunder of dressing for the parking lot, not the ride, which meant I had a wind layer on that was completely unneeded. Sure, I could have stopped and taken it off, but that might have cost me a minute. Or two.

Warm, and a strong tailwind for once! Power was out due to the wind in a lot of areas, and drivers seemed to be especially hostile. Wondering if its stress related from all the confusion and jams at the lights. Hoping that tailwind switches directions for the ride home.

Good for you...I fought a strong sidewind all the way home, but it was warm.

Grim 04-16-12 05:20 PM

Good ride in. Was just warm enough that I toughed it out with no jacket.

Weather guessers said it would be clear till evening. At lunch a wave of rain came through. At :230pm I had to mess with some spread sheets so went up to my office for the Double monitors. Look out and see it starts lightly raining again. Does this on and off till 3:45pm and stops. I leave at 4pm and looking at the Radar showed it should be raining. Made a break for it. I got a couple drops on the way home but that was it and made it just before the next wave or rain cut loose. :thumb:

You braved our wind today?!? Congratulations! I wimped out and drove in, between the wind and the rain this morning the dry comfort of the car won out. Though the thought of a 40 mph tailwind on the way home did put up a good fight.

NYC hipsters don't obey laws when riding. But then, nobody does.

Fast and sweet. The return leg, I am in shorts and a tank top.. Oh boy.. ;)

your bike matches the scenery, awesome.

Great rides, though I took it easy to make them last. The only exciting part was merging through moving traffic to the left turn lane but even that went smoothly. Oh there was a huge 3-foot snapping turtle on the trail, which might have been exciting except he wasn't actually doing anything and I was stopping anyway to offer aid to the cyclist there.

Rimmer 04-16-12 09:49 PM

Warm and windy. One of calves is feeling awry. I think it happened going up a hill.

I saw a hipster with headphones, and that's illegal in this state. Then, I saw an anorexic with a Specialized. My god his elbows were twice the width of his triceps. His frame was small. The seat post looked insanely high. I don't know how he can ride his low spoke counted wheels on the kind of roads we were on.

I had to patch my tube today. It only started leaking ever since I had my LBS true my wheel. I wondered if they poked a hole in it. Seriously my rear tube's pressure was like 50PSI or so when I got home from the LBS. I inflated my tires this morning. One was obviously leaking air as it was deflated. I didn't have time to patch it then. I just made sure I carried my frame pump. Before I headed my way back home, it was about 75PSI, so I pumped it to 115. Then, I put a rema patch on it when I got home.

Another warm windy ride in, sun really creeping up on the horizon.

essiemyra 04-17-12 05:29 AM

The ride in this am was very nice, warm and the sun coming up. Where I ride there is not to much traffic to begin with but even less this week as it is school vacation week. I went 2 1/4 miles with no one else on the road with me.

Beautiful ride to work this morning with temps in the low 60s. Took my vest off about halfway to work because I was too warm. Still bucking headwinds but at least it wasn't blowing as hard as yesterday. Forecasters said it might rain this afternoon or might not, so I decided not to worry about it but have a light rain jacket packed just in case.

vtjim 04-17-12 08:22 AM

Temps around 56F/13C, no wind. Second short-sleeve morning commute of the season. :) Traffic was lighter than normal but then there was a long line of cars backed up at a 4-way-stop intersection. I happily ride past them in the bike lane, glad I'm not stuck in that line.

Looking at my Soho just now. She needs a bath. There's a layer of dust on her and that just won't do.

cehowardGS 04-17-12 08:24 AM

Finsihed the first leg again, and still sweet, even though I fell. :(

wphamilton 04-17-12 08:31 AM

Great ride, although I lost a pair of gloves that I inexplicably carried along in my windbreaker pockets. I got honked at by a passing car, for the first time in maybe a year. Maybe he was trying to alert me that I'd dropped something ?!

Minstrel 04-17-12 10:19 AM

I rode to work for the first time this year. It was colder than I am used to riding in, but I wore pants and socks and a thermal layer and a balaclava to keep my ears warm and gloves and was quite comfortable. The best part about it was that the 7.5 mile inbound leg was easy, even though I haven't been on the bike all winter. I attribute the ease of riding to weighing 25 pounds less than last year.

no motor? 04-17-12 10:50 AM

Todays' commute featured the layered look and multiple stops to remove a layer or two.

tar wheels 04-17-12 10:59 AM

Aside from the pound of pollen that wound up in my eyes, great way to start the day today.

riot2003 04-17-12 11:04 AM

It was real warm in the sun, and real cool in the shade. Lots of people out and about today.

fletchh 04-18-12 04:35 AM

Warmer, then predicted at 58F (14C). It was a good ride in, and I was a tad overdressed. I was out yesterday for dental work, and now I am ready to eat confidently again. Damn teeth cost too much.

essiemyra 04-18-12 05:50 AM

The temp was cooler today than the last two and a long sleeved shirt and a jacket was needed, light gloves would have been nice. It was still a nice ride in this am.

For the past few weeks I have only bike commuted three days a week. A few of the reasons for that is I am fairly new to bike commuting and it tires you out. Also I never really rode in the rain I was not sure I would be up to it. Well today I am on my 3rd day of the week and I have two more days left of work. The question for me is do I ride the other two days, or take one off and ride the other. I think of not riding and I think I will miss it if I don't. Well I will have to wait and see what my body tells me to do.
