First time commuting to work today - door to door is 6 km(3.7 miles) in downtown Toronto and it took me 30 minutes! Wasn't trying to set a new world record, but rode at a leisurely pace and enjoyed the fresh air and scenery. It was refreshing and I'll tell ya what - Never taking transit again...good bye TTC!

48F; drizzly

High fifties. Rode slow to recover from minor, but annoying injury.

this happened to me last week, but thought i would post a friendly reminder for people to take the lane if you need to! i was riding home from work and it goes under a freeway and narrows, and the road on the right is really chewed up and hard to ride on, so I moved over into the lane but not all the way into the lane, and some ******* comes speeding by super close and clips me with his passenger side mirror on my left hand. didn't knock me over or anything but man was I pissed. Rode like a bat out of hell, caught up with him after about 6 stoplights and knocked on his window. think i gave him a good scare. So just take the lane. who cares if someone honks at you. Better than getting knocked into by a car.
Today's commute was a bit slow, not sure why--maybe because I had my clothes in a messenger bag instead of a backpack and didn't feel as steady. |
62f for the ride in. just warm enough I can tough it out without a jacket 87f for the ride home. Jonesing to break out one of my hot rods but I have been taking lunch and need a rack for it. :(
Might be time for one of those seat post jobs. They padded good? 2 of my bikes have early 80's super campy seat posts and really would suck to mess them up. |
Worst. Commute. Home. Ever.
Rain. Headwind. 5C (40F?). Wet. Cold. Miserable. |
I felt unbelievably powerful on the way back home. It had to been that 8-10mph tailwind. Going up that stinky hill seemed pretty easy.

Great commutes today.
63F and sunny with winds from the S @ 9-10mph for the commute in this afternoon. Felt great for the whole ride. 53F and dusk with winds from the S @ 8-14mph for the commute home this evening. Felt great for most of the ride, but then slightly cramped up and was dragging the last mile on the climb to my house. I'm not really surprised getting the cramp because I rode a total of 221.9 miles from last Monday to Sunday with 97.4 of those miles being from this weekend. Tomorrow is going to be a rest day. |
For all those who plan their commutes,
Check out windmapper.com. It's a vector wind map that's been surprisingly useful for planning rides, commutes, ect. It's got good coverages around my location, but I think all of it's data comes from airports. |
Heavy rain at the start, then light, then nothing, then light then nothing. I did not get as wet as I had planned on. Warm weather 58f (14c) so the rain is not an issue. I was more concerned about lightening, which did not happen. Hopefully, the same goes for when I head out today.

Warm, rainy, not too bad. Replaced one of my two tail lights for maximum blinky.

Grrr! Just venting a bit. Yesterday was perfect when I woke up, but weather.com said 70% chance of thunderstorms starting at 10 AM & lasting all day. I checked it Sunday night & then again first thing Monday morning. After seeing the forecast not change, I decided to drive. Sure enough 10 AM comes & goes, no storm. At noon, they update the forecast to push the rain off until 6 pm. It eventually stormed around 8 pm, so I would have been perfectly fine. No problem, Tuesday's forecast is clear, i'll just ride then. I wake up this morning & look out the window & it's raining. Oh well. Hopefully tomorrow is better.

Our weather is going from spring to summer this week, with highs supposed to reach near 90 F or higher through Saturday. That is gonna take some getting used to. The first week of 90+ temps is always hard, particularly when humidity is high like right now.

Light misting rain, but mid fifties. I gotta get fenders!
Day one of Bike to Work Every Day this month, month. |
44F and wet from yesterday's squalls. Surprisingly sunny, I was expecting more of the same. Maybe it's on/off squalls today instead of hard/light like yesterday.
I was feeling really beat this morning and figuring it was mostly due to the 50 mile fun ride on Sunday, but then I remembered I gave blood yesterday, too, and the 100 pushups this morning. Any additional straws to grasp... |
36F and wet at my place. It was almost light enough at 5:05 for me to not need the light on my helmet. I'll give it another week or two though. It was only very lightly raining, and not always. I got passed by 2 cars in my 9 mile morning commute, about average. It's light enough now that I can enjoy the scenery. It's been a long 3 months or so....
It was so windy on the way home that I wimped out a little, and instead of doing my 18 mile long route home across rolling but windy farmland, I rode my 14 mile long route home into the hills which blocked most of the wind. |
Hot today. It's not so bad while riding with the wind. It's bad when you have to stop or go inside some building after riding. I sped up a minor hill and hit a slight crack/hole whatever it was. I didn't see it until the last second. It knocked my rear brake caliper out of adjustment, so I had to fix it. Video camera I had to restart. I'm getting sick of doing that. The Garmin Edge I had to fiddle around to get the distance counting. I think the sensor's battery is going. That kind of stuff makes me angry. Glad I didn't get caught in the rain. I might tomorrow.
|
I was off today, but we have had some whoppin tunderstorms earlier. It appears I would have made it home between storms though.
|
Summer has arrived! 71f on the way in and 87f on the way home. So far the GA humidity pump hasn't really kicked in so still pretty nice to ride in if you keep moving. Might actually have to break down and turn on the A/C in the house this week. :(
|
Beautiful, sun shining and at 85 finally warm enough to my liking. I think I'll take it easy going home just to stretch it out.
|
used my singelspeed for todays commute. the last hill is just too steep. i need more training :) !
|
Lightening and distant rumbles when I got up, but by the time I ate, dressed and made lunch, the rain and all were gone. I believe that I must have hit a gap in the storm. I love getting those sort of breaks. Nice warm day at 63f (17c), and a fast ride in.
|
Yesterday's ride home was almost hot...must have risen 10 degrees in justb a couple of hours.
Nice ride in with just a very misty rain coming down. My front brake always squeaks when it gets slightly wet...annoying. Was trucking along when a light changed so I hit the brakes, squeaked, and even fishtailed a bit. |
This morning I checked the radar and spotted what looked to be a brief interlude between Tstorms. Would it be enough for me to get to work? Almost! I was 3/4 of the way before the sky opened up and I got soaked. Good thing I am mostly waterproof. :) Another great day for a bike ride! On the dress for the weather front I am back to shorts and tshirt...very similar to what I was wearing in March!
