Tomorrow I ride, and it will be HOT.
|
I had fun this is the first time i seen downtown of this town
|
Good ride in at 75f (24c). I may have found what was causing a pin hole in my tubes when I ride. After having flats on thursday and friday, I spent
time friday night turning the tire inside out and rubbing up and down. I came across something that was very small, and I am not even sure what it was, because when I pulled it out from the other side of the tire with a pair of pinchers, I lost it on the floor. This MTB tire can hide stuff very well. It has some mileage on it, and if it picks up something again, I will just replace it. |
the ride in this morning was very nice, temp was 67f and not to warm. Though it will be warm later today on the ride home. I added extra miles yesterday and hope to do the same this afternoon. It seemed as if it kept threatening thunder showers yesterday's ride home but nothing materialized and it seemed to get cooler air as if a front went by. Anyway today is a new day!!
|
Warming up for sure, legs were tired from a morning run with some hill work (Capitol Hill l being the only hill around me).
Almsot finished off an entire water bottle on the way in...my commute is less than five miles. |
2012 - How Was the Commute Today?
Already hot here in KC. Glad my commute to the bus with icy A/C (riding it now) is only 4 miles.
|
Got caught in the middle of a road rage beeping war this morning. Some ass-bag in a BMW driving like he had a bomb attached to his speedometer and couldn't do less than 60 beeped at me, then cut into traffic, got beeped at by a Mercedes, then beeped back at the Mercedes, rinse and repeat a few times, since they were now at a light.
The irony is that this was on a road called "Pleasant Valley Parkway", which was really not so pleasant this morning. I take this road a lot and have never had an issue before. It's supposed to be brutal here later today, really high humidity, lets see how many pounds I can sweat off on the way home. |
Much better today, the soreness yesterday must have been anomalous. Repacking my front hub also helped, after my over-exuberantly plowing through 2-foot deep flooded sections washed out the grease, which caused the hub to emit a hideous racket. It also reduced my speed by an imperceptible but nevertheless distressing amount. A little cleaning and grease and all is well.
It's almost like swimming to work here with humidity around 95% with temperatures lingering still in the 90's, and no end in sight. Intermittent thunderstorms are predicted every day through the weekend, which affords the opportunity to appear resolute, with the strength of noble dedication even, though as we all know here the reality is more mundane - we just like to ride. |
60F and humid. Not full-blown muggy like the weekend.
So, stuffing an omelet w/ ghost pepper salsa, not the best pre-ride fuel for me. |
The word for this morning was warm. I think I sweat more than I drank, which isn't good. I took the 'long' way, which means my ride was 21 miles this morning, which I covered in 84 total minutes (just about 80 moving minutes, I think - I already reset the computer) which is pretty fast for me. I suspect the ride home will be slow, though.
No bad incidents this morning, though I did meet a salmon on the E Street bike lane. Oh, and a few groups of walkers on the W&OD who seem to believe that 3 abreast is just fine. |
short segments of my daily commute from work
|
hot. Was 80 and 83% humidity this morning...dew point was 70. Will be 101 when I leave for home this afternoon.
|
Was a beautiful, cool morning ride, and an easy cruise back home before noon. Tried out some SPD clipless pedals/shoes for the first time and am happy to report that I didn't fall over once :) Also my new brass crane bell is hella loud!
|
Humid going to work; hot and humid returning from work. On the way home, I saw a yahoo in a beater mini-van doing roughly 45mph on a residential street. Luckily his machine was a real rust-bucket, or he might have been going even faster.
You see a lot of crazy crap when you commute by bike. |
I saw a man in his cage creeping into the intersection while looking to his right. He was making a left turn. I was looking at him and wondering when he was going to stop. Since this road has a speed limit of 15mph, I'm in the center of the road. Well, he eventually stopped, but not where he should have stopped. This was about 5-10min before sunset. Good thing I had my headlight on. I swallowed a bug. Gnats are getting bad around here. I saw a freak with tattoos all over its face. On the way back home I kept getting red lights.
|
got on the road early this morning and rode 15 miles before the ball sweat of day could give me a heat stroke. current goal is at least 17 miles. hope to beat 21 miles by the end of today. the stars were still out when i hit the road about 4:30 this morning. had some little critter rushing next to me for a bit maybe a skunk. saw the sun rise. :)

68F/20C, humid, and overcast. We had some powerful storms roll through last night. One street that slopes down to the street I was on is torn up for paving so there was a big debris field of dirt and rocks all over my street. I caught another bicyclist before the mess and we both took the lane to get around it. Traffic was light but we did make one car slow down for us.
I need some cheese to go with my whine. I'm really getting sick and tired of heat and humidity. Make it stop! |
Today I rode my bike the 1.3 miles to metro. That was almost 2 hours ago. I'm still sweating.
Yesterday's ride home was on the tough side. The heat was really taking its toll. Had a woman on a tri bike wave me past after we climbed a hill, even though she had been keeping a pretty good lead on me up to that point. I'd creep up on her on the bigger hills, but she'd pull away pretty handily on the lesser inclines, declines and flats. Maybe she was afraid I was looking at her derriere ;-) |
I love these mid-70's temperatures, a really nice ride. I took a side trip to a convenience store at the end, which I always like because there's enough of a grade coming back to hit the high 30's mph. Briefly. But still fun.
|
It was 88 degrees here at 7am in the morning. It's a little humid too. I got cutoff by some jerk pulling out of parking lot. Other than that it was uneventful.
|
Good ride yesterday pm, North of Boston. 95F at 5:00. Packed extra shorts and a towel, 1/2 way through a 17 mile commute home, jumped into a lake for 20 minutes. Nice.
|
Got stuck in an unpleasant construction situation on the way home last night, road al of sudden became very narrow, homebound hyper commuters were zipping by me. Yuck.
Inbound this morning was much better! Smooth sailing all the way. |
I am in late due to a dental appt, and it was a brutal ride in at 92f (33c). It is worse coming in today, then leaving yesterday. I will be taking my time going home.

Started off Monday with a flat that used up my insurance time, followed by 25 mph headwinds going in. Tuesday, jockey pulley locked up and bent my derailuer so I lost my low gearing (aluminum spacer cracked in half). Got it dialed in last night and had a carefree ride today.
|
Faced some pretty brutal headwinds before I even got to the trail on the way back, and briefly thought about shaving five miles off the commute by hopping on the light rail. But I kept going. The wind killed any motivation I had to push the pace about 1/3 of the way into my ride back. Even though the winds eventually eased up I settled into a very leisurely pace.

Cooler this morning and welcomed at that, 76f (24c). Yesterday was one for the books for me. Going up hill, it was almost impossible to breathe without sucking in very hot air, and it didn't matter which way I turned my head. I am not sure what my limit for hight temps is, but yesterday had to be close.

Yesterday's ride home featured hyper drivers scaring the hell out of me...but karma stepped. As I came upon two of these cars at a different intersection, one had rear ended the other at the stop light. Nice ride in this morning. |
Humid. I've been at work, dressed/rinsed off, for over an hour now. I'm still sweating...
|
it was a nice ride in this morning, temps on the cooler side, but no complaints here after all the heat we have been having.
Leebo, I am a little jealous of your commute home the other day where you mentioned swimming in a lake for 20 minutes. I sure wish I had something like that on my way home. |
