It is darker in the morning again, but no rain and good temps at 74f (23c). The next couple days are supposed to be hot, but it is supposed to cool off again towards the end of the week.

Warm ride in, but very nice.

essiemyra 07-16-12 05:10 AM

Well, there was a detour for the vehicles going along rt 110 in Merrimac this morning as there was a power line down and cracked in half. They let me through so no issues for me. The ride was warm at 67f. I added just a little extra this morning to my ride, but plan on doing a longer ride home. Though I will take it easy as it is supposed to be humid and hot. The good part is a lot of the ride is along shady roads.

Must be getting hotter or my building's AC is not up and running yet because I am really beginning to perspire here at my desk.

Nice warm ride in....took a look at one of those travel trailers at my LBS yesterday. Still deciding whether or not to go for it.

vtjim 07-16-12 05:43 AM

70F/21C and humid. Light traffic. Saw a couple of bicyclists going the other way. I got spooked by a large stuffed teddy bear next the the road but obscured from view by a tree trunk until I was almost next to it. For a second, I thought it was a dog. :o

Commute was excellent!!! Finally got to do my normal commute after a sprained knee and several months of (short) commutes in Mankato. Didn't care about the wind and heat, just felt great to be on the bike in home territory.

It was really pleasant, though I'm unhappy to see that sunrise is getting later, so that soon I'll need to wear my little Blackburn Flea on my helmet. I'll get a half way long ride (18 miles) going home. I guess I'll be riding my bike to the Falls City transportation plan commitee meeting.

HardyWeinberg 07-16-12 11:53 AM

Great! 60F, grayish, took a 10 mile detour after riding my 7 yr old 1.6 miles to her camp.

wphamilton 07-16-12 12:32 PM

I felt sore arriving at work, the first time that's happened in years. Maybe it is just a holdover from being slightly dehydrated from the ride on Sunday - I didn't feel it riding but ran low on energy after only about 30 miles, and drank three bottles of water at home which is a sure sign. I also adjusted my saddle, which I don't adapt to quickly. Whatever it is I hope I'm over it for the ride home.

caloso 07-16-12 12:50 PM

Was nearly right-hooked by a city truck pulling a trailer. I caught up to the driver and for the most part maintained my cool while asking her to please not do that again.

Other than that, it was a really pleasant ride to work.

Saw the clouds thought I could out ride them. Didn't.
Arrived completely soaked.
Forgive my lack of terminology but Florida has these "out of nowhere" rains.
Sun was shining but the clouds were far away (or so I thought). As I was thinking--it poured!
The painful drops too. Not hail but the fat drops that sting. :(
Had stopped and purchased a BLT Cobb salad from Wendy's and a strawberry tea. Thought it was packed pretty well. Wasn't. Lost the tea.
My fault: I don't like panniers, bags and such.

Price you pay for minimalism.

:/

Boy, we could use an out of anywhere rain. It is bone dry here. Ride home was hot, about 96F. No problem at all till I got about a mile from home and stopped at a long light. The sweat started pouring in my eyes from my helmet and it was so bad I really could not see, burned big time. Wiped off the sweat and I was fine. Tomorrow will be 100, so far I have been off or on vacation every time it got to 100, hope I dont melt.

zacster 07-16-12 08:44 PM

Tomorrow I ride, and it will be HOT.

windhchaser 07-16-12 08:57 PM

I had fun this is the first time i seen downtown of this town

fletchh 07-17-12 04:27 AM

Good ride in at 75f (24c). I may have found what was causing a pin hole in my tubes when I ride. After having flats on thursday and friday, I spent
time friday night turning the tire inside out and rubbing up and down. I came across something that was very small, and I am not even sure what it was, because when I pulled it out from the other side of the tire with a pair of pinchers, I lost it on the floor. This MTB tire can hide stuff very well.
It has some mileage on it, and if it picks up something again, I will just replace it.

essiemyra 07-17-12 05:20 AM

the ride in this morning was very nice, temp was 67f and not to warm. Though it will be warm later today on the ride home. I added extra miles yesterday and hope to do the same this afternoon. It seemed as if it kept threatening thunder showers yesterday's ride home but nothing materialized and it seemed to get cooler air as if a front went by. Anyway today is a new day!!

dcb23 07-17-12 05:38 AM

Warming up for sure, legs were tired from a morning run with some hill work (Capitol Hill l being the only hill around me).

Almsot finished off an entire water bottle on the way in...my commute is less than five miles.

2012 - How Was the Commute Today?

Already hot here in KC. Glad my commute to the bus with icy A/C (riding it now) is only 4 miles.

SteamingAlong 07-17-12 07:01 AM

Got caught in the middle of a road rage beeping war this morning. Some ass-bag in a BMW driving like he had a bomb attached to his speedometer and couldn't do less than 60 beeped at me, then cut into traffic, got beeped at by a Mercedes, then beeped back at the Mercedes, rinse and repeat a few times, since they were now at a light.

The irony is that this was on a road called "Pleasant Valley Parkway", which was really not so pleasant this morning. I take this road a lot and have never had an issue before.

It's supposed to be brutal here later today, really high humidity, lets see how many pounds I can sweat off on the way home.

wphamilton 07-17-12 07:25 AM

Much better today, the soreness yesterday must have been anomalous. Repacking my front hub also helped, after my over-exuberantly plowing through 2-foot deep flooded sections washed out the grease, which caused the hub to emit a hideous racket. It also reduced my speed by an imperceptible but nevertheless distressing amount. A little cleaning and grease and all is well.

It's almost like swimming to work here with humidity around 95% with temperatures lingering still in the 90's, and no end in sight. Intermittent thunderstorms are predicted every day through the weekend, which affords the opportunity to appear resolute, with the strength of noble dedication even, though as we all know here the reality is more mundane - we just like to ride.

HardyWeinberg 07-17-12 08:52 AM

60F and humid. Not full-blown muggy like the weekend.

So, stuffing an omelet w/ ghost pepper salsa, not the best pre-ride fuel for me.

CptjohnC 07-17-12 09:03 AM

The word for this morning was warm. I think I sweat more than I drank, which isn't good. I took the 'long' way, which means my ride was 21 miles this morning, which I covered in 84 total minutes (just about 80 moving minutes, I think - I already reset the computer) which is pretty fast for me. I suspect the ride home will be slow, though.

No bad incidents this morning, though I did meet a salmon on the E Street bike lane. Oh, and a few groups of walkers on the W&OD who seem to believe that 3 abreast is just fine.
