I took it a bit easier today on the way in. I decided it was OK that people were passing on the way up the Manhattan Bridge, although I caught a fair number of them on the downhill. Once in Manhattan I took it easy. Still, when I arrived at work on 42nd St, I was dripping and it wasn't that hot a day.

On the way home I was in a rush and I had to really get myself going. Nobody passed my on the bridge.

pretty good, But I hit an opossum going about 18 miles an hour.:eek: Just clipped the back part and rear leg.:( I was ok. He was in the middle of the road dazed at what had just happened. I turned around and he ran off with a gimp. After that there was a cat in the middle of the road outside work. Once I got closer a mid size hawk flew off the flag pole. Im guessing I saved that cats life today. That was the first time I had hit any animal.

It was dripping, but not rain and a very pleasant temp at 72f (22c). I see lots of deer in the dark, and I only know that they are there, because the younger ones bolt and the older ones just look on while foraging.

I had a good ride in this morning, the roads were wet from last nights storm. It is quite muggy though this morning with scattered thunderstorms promised for this afternoon.

Though on another note, on my ride home last night my brand new back reflector fell off. I heard it fall so I stopped to pick it up. I guess I need to do a better job securing it to my bike.

Warm and extremely humid this morning but at least the roads were dry and there was no rain. Set a record time/pace for my morning commute, perhaps inspired by the Olympics. So I guess that I get the gold today.

Today is the first day of school in Nashville.

There were several more cars on my route. When I pulled out of my street, I got behind an obviously new driver. Young, uncertain and too cautious (drove s..l..o..w..l..y down a center turn lane for a long way before it becomes a left turn lane), I was glad to be behind instead of in front of their vehicle.

Otherwise, humid but uneventful.

I was reminded of yet another reason I'd rather bike the 10 miles to work than drive, that we don't often think about: traffic accidents. I turn onto a divided 4-lane near the end of my commute. Looking back after my turn (why is there no traffic?) I saw the emergency vehicles working an accident at the prior intersection. Thinking about getting stuck in that backup, or worse, involved in the collision, it sure felt nice to glide into work without interacting with any of that.

Starting with last night's ride home: Left work early and weas caught in a major rainstrom the whole way home. But it was warm and I kind of liked the change.

Ride in this a.m. was overcast and decidedly cooler than lately. Had a dream about oiling my chain after the rain...some guy wanted to steal a crank off of my bike!

Another great morning commute. Cool, sunny, calm. Legs felt a little heavy for the first half for some reason, but I found some strength for the last hill into downtown. My route was devoid of other cyclists this morning, but I got off to a late start; maybe everyone else was already at work.

Farm sitting this week and next, so the commute is 10 mi each way for a while instead of .4, yea!

Even with the cool mornings I had a good sweat worked up, glad I can take a shower at the condo along the way before coming in.

Nice brisk ride this morning.

I did however see what looked like a late model white GMC truck abandoned in a private lot over grown with bushes. Whowever tried to hide it there -inbetween some trees- had to ride over ALOT big bushes to get it there. The fenced area is hard to get to as well. Its all issolated by freeways and the MUP... Not sure if I should call someone.

Sick of a$$holes not calling their passes on the MUP. Happened a few times yesterday, a couple times they were close calls as I was riding in the middle of my lane, oncoming bike traffic doing the same, and these idiots decide to squeeze between with no audible warning. Summertime brings jackass time trialists, fall ninjas. Every year the same. Hate to sound like a curmudgeon, but use a little respect and common sense please.

Speaking of lack of respect and idiotic behavior, I watched as a motorist with some case of road rage muscled his way past a scooter a couple blocks ahead of me this morning. Craziest of all, he did it by passing on the right, going into the bike lane on the street. All just a block or two from a school with its speed limit sign flagging as I think there are some summer school activities happening there.

Nothing untoward happened to me this morning, though, and I had a nice ride in with cooler morning temps, even if it was a bit muggy.

It is either owned by the city or the department of water and power.

I did a 7 day supported tour last week for a total of 595km. I was feeling much better at the end of it than I did last year. I set a new personal top speed of 77kph on a downhill with a tailwind, spinning 145RPM in the top gear of my road bike.

I took my mountain bike to class through a light rain that wasn't in the forecast. It got me thinking back to my early days of bike commuting where I wouldn't take my bike if there was a chance of rain.

Good ride in at 70f (21c). All the walkers I saw when it was light have disappeared with the darkness. I hope that they are still walking. Beautiful moon to keep me company, peering through the trees every now and then.

There were heavy down pours when I was leaving work last evening so I waited about ten minutes and they had lightened up. I decided not to add miles in on the ride home due to the rain, but when I got to one part of my ride the road was so flooded(think lake) that I had to lift my bike over the guard rail and walk up on higher land for about 150yds. Then I was able to get back on the road and finish my ride home.

The ride in this morning was warm and muggy and partly sunny skies with no incidents, so a nice ride all in all.

Was late for work this morning so this ride had to be in quickspeed. Of course it's not that bad when you live on the top of a hill. Although I had enough time to get pissed off at the big metal bars that the roadworks have said in the middle of the bike/pedestrian lane that is the recommended replacement way. I guess they set it up to minimize the risk of collosion between bikes and pedestrians but it always feels risky. 16 minutes to work with a stop at the post office, but embarassing enough it only is about 3 kilometers and mostly downhill so...

Fastest commute time of the year yesterday, and it was a good thing. A nasty thunderstorm was brewing as I neared home in the afternoon and I started hearing loud thunder. That was all the motivation I needed to keep pushing the pace, and I made it home minutes before the storm hit. The weather has been this way in NC for the past two weeks, with t-storms almost every afternoon or evening. Makes for very "exciting" commutes.

Broke another spoke this morning, I'll get a complete rebuilt I think. The rest of the ride was nice, 57 min. to cover my 27.1 kms

Working from home today, but I got out for a little morning ride where all I did was ride through a ravine 5 times (10 climbs X 100 ft). I think I annoyed a guy walking his dog in the ravine - he originally had it off-leash, and it chased me up the hill for a while. When I came back down, the dog was on its leash. When I passed them again on another round, the dog was off-leash again (didn't chase me that time), and then next time I saw them again, dog was back on-leash. I suspect the guy would have preferred to leave his dog off-leash, had I not kept riding by!

i almost never warn when pass. that is not about *******ness it's about safety. in 2 out 3 cases the person i am about to pass will turn head in my direction and that make her swirl in my direction as well. And if you don't like people riding too close to you, you can always give them some more space by riding on the right side of the lane, that works for me
