Cool breeze, around 9ºC, two thirds of the way going really last third chatting to a workmate =) good ride

A lovely day at 53f (12C), and I beat the school bus again on the longest stretch of my ride. The problem with this is of course some day I will be sitting behind that bus as I catch up to him at every stop, but for now victory.

acidfast7 09-21-12 05:43 AM

cold 6C (40F) in the morning

hands get quite cold and my muscles never really warm up as it's only 12km each way

essiemyra 09-21-12 05:52 AM

no commute by bike this am, I went to spin class with my daughter. I will be riding my bike to work on Monday. I am not the happiest person when I take the car.

What great riding weather we are having! Cool but not cold mornings, sunny, low humidity and mild temps in the afternoons. Rode my touring bike this morning and took it easy. It rides so much better since I put Vittoria Rando Hyper 32s on it, very plush but still rolls great although the hills are a bit slower. Gonna drop off the bike at a LBS during lunch so they can install some new compact handlebars, which should complete my "upgrades" to the tourer. I've got it rigged up so nice now that I'll probably start commuting on it more regularly, altho most of the changes are aimed at making it more suitable for loaded touring. Tried something new today and mounted my headlight to front rack rather than the handlebar, because the LED light was interfering with my wireless computer. The light worked great in the new position and solved the computer problem I was having with it on the bars.

All this talk of chilly rides...seems like yesterday we were all overhearting. Cold fingers but a perfect day for a ride in.

gecho 09-21-12 08:19 AM

2C with a slight tailwind, coldest ride so far this semester. My stomach and forearms were cold but everything else was good. The ASICS Thermopolis running tights kept my legs nice and warm. I encountered 3 water main breaks this morning, we have had a record number of them due ground subsidence caused by very dry weather. I left early, but not early enough to beat the sunrise. When I turned east I was blinded by the sun and had to stop to put my sunglasses on. Even then, I needed to angle my head oddly so my helmet mirror would obscure the sun whenever there weren't any tall trees.

I won't be doing my 200k ride tomorrow because the morning temperatures are supposed to be below freezing. Instead I'll do an 80km ride later in the day to try out a freshly paved shoulder on the highway going to Lumsden. I switched back to the touring bike today and hauled in a fresh batch of clothing.

Beautiful day - 62F and sunny (although my ride is 70% in the shade in the mornings). I like wearing knee warmers even in this temperature because my knees get a bit sore these days. However, could not find my knee warmers. Thought they might be at work, but they aren't here either. Must be hiding at home somewhere. As it turns out, I didn't need them - it was really a pleasant ride.

Pretty much a zoo coming past the State Capitol as everyone from the hinterlands was trying to find a spot to see the Endeavour flyover.

silmarillion 09-21-12 11:32 AM

Not as chilly as it has been earlier this week. Chilly enough to wear warmers, but humid enough to make that more than a little sticky. Left at 5:30am this morning. Awesome ride in, that's the good thing about leaving earlier. Not as much traffic.

Ns1 09-21-12 11:51 AM

Hit a bump too hard and got ANOTHER flat on my rear.

raymst13 09-21-12 11:57 AM

great weather, sunny, third time to get nearly hit by a damn truck (same place/same truck) pulling out of a car repair shops parking lot the guy slammed on his brakes. i wish i could report this business or even put up a sign that says "Watch-out for Bikes". FYI we are allowed to use the sidewalk since pedestrian traffic is low, while our main street is always packed with cars during rush hour.

groovestew 09-21-12 12:24 PM

Cool (6C), clear, calm, fast. By next week, I think the morning sun won't be a problem anymore (assuming I leave my house at a decent time).

EKW in DC 09-21-12 02:14 PM

Beautiful weather the last few days. Tuesday was nasty... I was in the worst of the storm that day... Had no choice. I needed to make it to class in time for a presentation. 35 mph gusts in the face, driving rain, a tree down on the MUP. Hard to get much worse than that this time of year.

Best time of year for riding us now through the end of November IMO.

Solis91 09-21-12 02:55 PM

Dont you guys hate it when people are just walking in the bike lanes?
Especially when there is a car coming from your left at night, hand signals would be pointless...

009jim 09-21-12 03:41 PM

I had a little drama coming home last night. Bus passed me too close and gave me the wobbles. Unusual, because most of our bus drivers seem to be really courteous, and indeed a lot of them are cyclists. Lucky I was very nearly at the point where there is a gap in the curb for entry to the MUP, so I bolted onto it. Otherwise the back wheels of the bus would have got me at the corner (about 20 ft further) as the bus turned. What's most unsettling is that there was nothing I could have done better. I don't ride beside buses or trucks but in this case he overtook me just before the corner.

That's the kind of week I had too. Five flats! I can't figure out if it's a problem with the tire or rim, or it's just from all the crap on the road (raspberry bushes, glass etc.). There is still the same dead animal on the bike lane that I mentioned back in August. I'm going to stick with the MTB until things get cleaned up.

dude72 09-24-12 02:15 AM

commuting with a suit and tie is kind of strange. but it works fine since the temperatures are low enough. however taxi drivers are still a pain. they just do not know how to pass cyclists properly.

fletchh 09-24-12 04:36 AM

Cool ride in at 53f (12c). It felt warmer, but the nights are moving into the chillier realm.

essiemyra 09-24-12 05:16 AM

The stars were out and the temp was 39f when I left this morning. It was a very nice quiet ride to work, though I did see a fox on someone's lawn as I was riding in this am. The fox was small.

making 09-24-12 05:33 AM

40F or less this AM, big temp difference between the city and the burbs. I felt great for the first time in a week. Very nice ride.

vtjim 09-24-12 05:43 AM

42F/6C this morning. My hands got cold for the first time in a very long time, but they warmed up once I got the system energized. (I don't wear gloves yet. My hands would get overheated.) Almost no traffic at all out there. I need to try to leave at the same time every day. Cars seem to explode all over my route if I leave 5 or 10 minutes later.

CptjohnC 09-24-12 07:27 AM

Overall, a good ride with great weather, but I was apparently quite impatient, and it caught up with me. I should have known I needed to re-focus and reconsider when I was 'forced' to go around a truck on the left (and across the double yellow) on a minor side street. But the real wake up came when I decided to go around a cab on the right, and he bumped me as he pulled to the curb to let off his fare. Now, I must have had more than an inkling that this was coming, as I had waited behind him for some (short, but far from de minimus) time period before deciding it was okay to pass. As I got along side, he moved for the curb and I was nudged/squeezed. I think the pedestrians on the sidewalk were far more upset than I was, though I still think the cabbie needs a lesson in looking before moving, as he had just cleared the section of road that has a full bike lane, so having a bike to his right was not exactly out of the ordinary. But I'll take the bulk of the blame, as I should have been patient and not tried to scoot past him.

dcb23 09-24-12 07:38 AM

I'm in the "I dont know how bundled up to get" part of the year. Too much and overheat...too little and feel chilled.

Both paniers filled up but oddly my ride felt light and smooth.

dramiscram 09-24-12 07:44 AM

Nice sun, no cloud and a cool 3 C (37.5 F) very nice ride.

I like your avatar picture. :) St-Césaire, eh? We're practically neighbors. :) (Wife and I love going to Chambly, or Montreal if we want a "real city.")

spivonious 09-24-12 09:14 AM

Woke up sore from hockey yesterday, so I decided to sleep in and drive. One of these weeks I'll do all five days. :)

gecho 09-24-12 09:18 AM

6C when I left the house but it rapidly warmed throughout my ride. Having given the road and touring bikes a week of riding each, I decided to give the mountain bike a turn this week. Saturday I replaced the freehub on it. I accidentally got the wrong one so I needed to add some spacers and re-adjust my derailleur. I forgot to swap my road bike tubes for mtb tubes in my trunk bag this morning. In the unlikely event of a flat, I'll have to patch it.

Pretty decent afternoon temperatures are forecast for the entire week, with 26 for today.

glad it's not just me!

Great ride this morning! It's still warm enough for shorts when I left, and the cooler air made me feel faster.
