Christmas shopping by bike.

Or to be P.C, Holiday shopping by bike. I've been thinking of finishing my shopping by bike this year. Ive got about four gift certificates and one jewelry type box to buy. I can get the certs in my "fanny pak" and can bungee cord the box to my rear rack; I can attach the rack quickly for just this situation. The mall and shops are in upscale areas of town with roving security and bike racks or sturdy railings to lock to. What do you all think of my plan and/or what are your experiences. Thx, Thom.

A pannier bag is preferable, but if you want to attach something to the rack by bunjies, make sure it doesnt get bumped off.
I do all my shopping by bike.

No! No! No! Been doing this for years. The point of this whole exercise is that you don't want to buy the spousal unit something big and bulky. Big and bulky equates with useful and useful, at least around my house, for Christmas is a no no! Just remember:

Couch or refrigerator and Christmas: bad
Appliances and Christmas: bad
Jewlery and small items: good
Small and expensive: good
Large and expensive: bad
Small and inexpensive: good
Large and inexpensive (cheap): very bad! Dog house bad.
Power equipment and wife: very, very bad! (unless she likes power equipment. Check first. Dogs don't like sharing their houses - especially neighbor dogs!)

I've done alot of my Christmas shopping by bike. I have a messenger bag. I do a little bit each day. So far, so good. Small things are definitely good, although I'm a big power-tool chick, myself. I have a wired workshop, but there's not much hooked up to the wires, yet. Looking at a table saw, but not on my bike.

Kinda makes me glad I don't do any holiday shopping at all... no stress. :)
