I don't just use my bell on the streets, I use it on MUP's and Bike Trails too.

And, just like this guy, when I'm forced to ride on the sidewalk (Imperial Highway comes to mind), I do use the bell to get the attention of pedestrians.

That said, lots of peds here in SoCal have i-pods in their ears while they're on the sidewalks and the bell ringing doesn't always get through.

The really good thing about bells (i-pods aside) is that they're understood in any language!

Funny as hell!

The guy's tone is informal, his language is polite, and I didn't give up the idea he was on a bike until the escalator. I know that for native-speakers there's got to be some inside jokes there, too.
