Question about fuji bikes.
I currently commute 7 miles one way 6 days a week. I own a Schwinn sidewinder with around 1500 miles on it. Am looking for a hybrid bike and my lbs that is convenient to my location only sells Fuji. I am looking for a hybrid bike for a little more speed, So to my question. Are Fuji hybrid bikes good? I've been looking at a few different ones:
Absolute 3.0 $589.00
Sunfire 2.0 $629.00
Crosstown 1.0 $549.00
I'm looking to spend around $500-600.
Sorry for my unorganised post I am a noob to forums.
Cheers

I think that I might have a few pretty good candidates for you:
1) Jamis Coda Sport ~ $560 (chromoly steel)
www.jamisbikes.com/usa/thebikes/street/coda/12_codasport_rd.htm
2) Schwinn Sporterra Sport ~ $495 (aluminum)
www.schwinnbikes.com/bikes/hybrid/2012-sporterra-sport-mens-14586#/specs
3) Motobecane Cafe ~ $549 (aluminum)
www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/cafe_sprint.htm
4) Fuji Absolute 2.0 ~ $399 (aluminum)
www.bikesdirect.com/products/fuji/absolute_2.htm
* Fuji has been an excellent name in bikes for decades!
You want to stick with Alivio, Deore, Tiagra, and 105, or higher in components.
Hog Snot-->2200-->Sora-->Tiagra-->105-->Ultegra-->Dura Ace (Road Bikes)
Moose Turds--> Tourney-->Altus-->Acrea-->Alivio-->Deore-->LX-->XT-->XTR (MTN Bikes)
Reference:
www.talu.com/materials.php
If kept dry, the chromoly steel frame can last for decades...

So why tell him to stick above a certain level? If on a limited budget, from what I've seen, it's very unlikely you'll get anything higher than Sora on the road side and nothing higher than Acera/Altus on the mountain/hybrid level anyway, so advising the OP to stick to a certain component level is only going to needlessly reduce his options.

I've only used Tiagra, Alivio, 105, Ultegra, and Deore! They were all just great!

Six years ago I bought a 2005 Fuji Del Rey, predecessor to the Crosstown. Indestructible frame, has never needed tuning, kinda heavy though and not the fastest (though that might just be the engine, hard to know for sure.) Only trouble I've had with it: broke a rear spoke two winters in a row (at exactly the same spot in town, weird), not a biggie because the LBS was easily able to replace them and anyway I had scored that model on eBay at 50% retail, brand new in box, $255. You won't find that kind of a deal nowadays but still if you care about durability, the Fujis are built like trucks. Have put thousands and thousands of miles on my Del Rey, got only one flat after five years when the rear Kenda had worn down to the threads; switched out the front tire to a 'bent I was building up and got another couple thousand miles out of it. Ride that bike hard, have both front and rear baskets and pull a trailer when upstate too. Only other parts I had to swap out were the Wellgo platform pedals once they got too worn down (upgraded to MKS Lambdas) and of course the saddle, finally settled on a Brooks after many Serfas.

Thanks for the advise y'all. Pretty much decided on the absolute 3.0. Guy at lbs said 450 tax included. From everything I've read it's a great deal and a heck of a lot better than my current department store bike.

Yeah, find out the year and the components.
Don't pay that much for a 2011! If it's a 2012, go for it, only if it has an Altus rear derailleur!

I see 2012's on the Fuji website...I think!
Most bicycle manufacturers have their 2012 models posted by now!
No. Fuji, currently has their 2012 models featured on their website. Just look at the bottom of their webpages.
REI is selling that same model Fuji for $400!
If I were you, I'd ask for that same price or I'd have them throw some stuff into the deal that makes up for close to the $50 difference in price.
Let them know what's up. Act kinda disinterested, anymore!
Leave..Go home. Call 'em back tomorrow and see if you can get a deal. If not, just pick it up in a few more days, after you try it again the second time!

Look at the bottom of the webpage. It says 2012! Now if they haven't sold enough of their 2011 models and they're still trying to unload the same 2011 inventory in 2012, then I'd say, that's even more to your advantage!
Did you actually ask about the year?
That could be an old trick that some bike dealers use...They get you to pay this year's price, for last year's model.
The price they've offered really sounds like a 2011 price!

Thanks for your input. Much appreciated. One more quick question. I just looked at a video on YouTube for this bike and noticed how thin tires are. Just because they're thin does that make it a lot more fragile? Reason I'm asking is cause I'm used to the tires on mountain bikes and I commute to work at midnight. So I occasionally might hit a stray item on the ground. Not huge stuff but it happens.

If I were you, I'd ask them to switch out the tires and replace them with 32's instead of the 28's. You'd have a better chance with 32mm's.
I'd also get them to put something other than those cheapskins on your rims, too!

The brand painted on the frame , being Fuji, is fine, the rest of the stuff is changeable,
the parts pick value comes as a cost reflected in the total cost ..
A careful assembly and adjustments, by the shop you buy it from
is an important part of what people ask about being in the Good category .
talk to the dealer , they want you to be satisfied, and will change things as you wish.
