lightweight rear rack that fits wide tires

I'm looking for a lightweight rear rack, something like the Tubus Fly. I need it to take fatter tires, though. Also, the Fly's attachment looks kind of flimsy and ugly. I like how my current Surly Rack attaches and looks.

Good things about the Tubus Fly:
under 1 lb, at 11 or 13 oz
40lb load capacity.

Suggestions?

There's nothing flimsy about any Tubus rack. They're the standard which others try to achieve.

Why not the Vega at 18oz.? Or if weight is real concern, one of the Ti ones? The Carry is 13 oz and the Logo Titan 14.5oz.

fly is very solid when mounted up.
completely different beast than the surly rack, though.
surly and lightweight don't really go together. (and i'm a previous cross check owner and current pugsley owner...)

maybe something from salsa?

I have had a Tubus fly for about 5 years now on my commuter. (cross check) It is definitely not flimsy. It is very light, very minimal design, three point attachment is super solid and strong which is what I wanted. I like the Surly rack a lot, but it's over built for my purposes.

You say you want fatter tires but don't mention how fat. 26" or 700c ? Fenders or not? My winter set up has Nokian 35mm 700c and PB cascadia 45mm fenders , Plenty of room. Attached photos don't really show the extra space too well.

How wide are you talking here? I am running a fly on my crosscheck w/ 35mm tires, love it. But it would not clear pugsley tires.
