From what I've gathered Lebron's a part owner in Cannondale, too.

I figured as much.
I haven't followed any US sports since Roger Staubach, Franco Harris, Larry Csonka and Lynn Swann were household names during the NFL "power team" era, and haven't had a TV in the house since '96, so am not real up to date on sports =) (or any pop culture, for that matter)
Anyway, it is good to see that a pop culture star is bringing bike commuting to the public eye. Very cool.

Yeah, I hear ya.
I don't have a TV, don't listen to commercial radio -this stuff is so far off my radar, it doesn't even register. Just not my thing anymore.
However, I know what it's like to follow a sport - been there done it - it is alot of fun.

I haven't seen a television commercial (with the exception of unintelligible echo coming from an airport TV) in probably 12 years, haven't seen a local or national newscast in about the same.

I get my news from reuters and BBC online, so I feel like I can stay on top of what's happening in the world without alot of the noise that I no longer desire to hear. It's a personal choice.

So, thanks for the offer, but I feel like my life is not any richer by knowing the current player roster for a given team

However, the fact that a sports star has gotten publicity for riding his bike to a game is simply awesome.

It is good that he was wearing a helmet and a good example for the kids whom look up to him. However, if I had to guess, I would bet he has a clause in his professional contract that says something along the lines of "when taking part in any sport....must wear any traditional protective equipment". Big sports contracts like his often come with many restrictions on "dangerous" activities to protect the investment. Im not a fan, but I would also guess that James is intelligent enough to know the same.

I had no idea that he was part owner of Cannondale. Either way, good for him. Lebron donates bicycles to poor children in Akron annually, among other things.

I'm from Northeast Ohio and I am a CAVS fan, I don't harbor any hate for Lebron.

This was me in the late 1970s to mid 1980s, no TV, no car, nothing. I had a lot of friends though (close ones, too - many of us are still friends in 2012) and a lot of bicycle mileage. I think that during my life that was my happiest time. It's not that I hated TV and commercialism, it's that I just wasn't interested.

Well, Bill Walton was/is 7'0" and Lebron is a shade over 6'9". Advantage: Walton. He tried to market Bee-pollen years ago, but it didn't exactly take off for him.

I don't want to like LeBron, I don't want to. The way he was anointed "the king" before ever doing anything impressive in the NBA, the way he handled the trade, the "news conference", the pre-celebration at the Heat arena....all bad stuff. But then I read this. He rides....and he has a piece of Cannondale as well? I may have to change my opinion.
