Pinch Flat
 

Damn it.... even after cleaning my tires off and getting all the glass out of there early this morning, i got a pinch flat on the way home from work.

my question.... i am not sure why the pinch flat happened. i hit the edge of a curb and then it went flat. could the curb have caused the pinch flat?

Yes, especially if you ride with your tires at lower pressures. Higher pressures are less comfortable but reduce the possibility.

I filled up the tire the night before like I have done before.... 120 psi. grrrrrrrr

Was it a "snakebite" (two holes) or just one? If it was just one, have you had the tire off the rim recently?

Did it have a slow leak before? With skinny tires, I would check the pressure every time I rode the bike.

Haven't used those in almost a year, though. :D

kojack: the wheel got trued. Perhaps the tube was in wrong? It was a snakebite.

therm: to tire was not really skinny. i dont like the real skinny ones :)

Snakebite generally indicates that the tube was pinched between the rims and a hard surface (likely the edge of the curb that you mention). The odd thing being, if there was 120 lbs. of air in your tire this shouldn't happen unless you nailed it really hard, which leads back to ThermionicScott's line of questioning regarding a slow leak. Could it be possible that the tire was slowly losing pressure?
