maybe ppl have suggs for better value for the 900 $ range, flatbar.. Or experiences w/ this exact bike etc.. Or thoughts about flatbars in general.
or if it can be had cheaper. I find a dealer showing price of 800, but says they can't sell online due to agreement w/ raleigh

What type of bar you use is one of the "holy war" topics around here, but it is largely rider preference, so you should try both set ups and go with what feels the best to you.
Other than that, budget aside, what are you wanting to do? Ride a bike to work, yeah, but is that all? What about in the rain? Distance? Hills? Where are you going to lock up at- on the street or inside your office or anywhere in between? Will you be taking your bike on a bus or train? Are you wanting to use a rack with some kind of bag (pannier, trunk) or happy with a backpack or mess bag? Planning on riding in your work clothes or change when you get there?

One of the best flat bar commuter hybrid values in the world is the award-winning Jamis Coda Elite, and it sells for $1050. Of course, the KHS Urban Xcel, also deserves honorable mention and it sells for $770. These prices are both current MSRP's for 2012. Only the KHS XCel beats the $900 price for the Cadent FT3.
Both the Jamis Coda Elite and the KHS XCel, have highly respected disc brakes. The Cadent FT3 only has linear V-brakes. Both the KHS XCel and the Cadent FT3 have road Tiagra, the Coda Elite has the comparable mountain Deore.
Overall, the three bikes are more or less equivalent, ignoring the brakes and frame material. At this time, the KHS Urban XCel would be the best buy, price wise.
Not ignoring brakes, the Cadent FT3 would rank last of the three.

read specs of jamis allegra elite
only one dealer inmy area, doesn't have my size,, I think its between this and ft3. Geometry seems better for me w/jamis and components lil better
