Got the "finger wag" today... (not the finger)
 

By a lady who was running a red light.

Must be some Canadian traffic law that I am unaware of where you don't actually get to go on green, but you must wait until all the red light runners have had their turn. Lesson learned..... I guess.

Well duh. A finger wag is a demonstration of superiority to all those you encounter. Thus allowing you to do as you wish and while insuring that nothing bad can happen to you. Obviously it works.

I can't believe you didn't know that.

I noticed that while driving up there. Not many turn lanes so the people taking lefts across traffic would run the light if needed. Seemed to be an accepted practice and the other traffic was fairly accommodating.

I feel your pain. Where I live, it's expected that you have to wait a few seconds every time the light turns green before you go. Red light runners believe they have every right to go, so if they give you any gesture at all, it would be the other finger gesture.

Kojak, I notice your location "PNW - Victoria BC",... you do realize, from a Canadian perspective, Victoria is PSW, don't you? :lol:

Yeah, so I've been curious about that since I've moved here. In Seattle it was a no brainer, but people here still refer to it as the "PNW" and at first it confused me because I thought certainly this must be referred to as the Canadian "SW". But I"ve heard enough of PNW that I just sort of accepted it. But I still think like you do, that this is SW Canada. But the origin of my "Location" is that I'm originally from Seattle, now living in Victoria, BC. Either way, a lot of water, mountains and natural beauty.

And, any way you slice it, PNW, Canadian SW, West Coast Style, the finger wag of shame was all for me, and I bore the brunt of it.

I hesitate to post this here, but I actually saw a lycra-clad guy on a bike "run" a red light recently. This was not like he slowed and looked around either. This guy saw it go amber and accelerated and shot through at full speed after it had gone red. It made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. I'd hate to see how he drives a car.

On my way home last year I was going "straight" at a T junction. This woman stopped at the T and was waving her head at me, which I understood as she did not expect I had the right to keep going when she had to wait.

This morning I saw a guy wearing jeans and a coat (no lycra at all) run a 4 way stop without slowing or looking. It does not take a special type of clothing to be an idiot.

Then there's the South West i.e. South Western Ontario which is further south than parts of northern California.

I was confused when I first moved to Newfoundland years ago when NTV News would refer to the West Coast. They meant Corner Brook and the Bay of Islands NOT British Columbia.
