Lovely weather spoilt by a lousy ride

Grr, wednesday had lovely sunny weather in the morning, barely any wind. But that ride was rubbish!

- Got stuck behind a bus belching acrid smoke everywhere
- Almost collided with another cyclist because they pulled out of a side street, without look, and with headphones in. Fortunately I saw them coming and made adjustments when I saw them fail to look.
- Taxi driver kept creeping out of a side road even when I had right of way and was going across in front of him - this was done in an aggressive way.
- Actually did collide with a pedestrian when they stepped off the pavement into the cycle lane without looking. Their friend looked and tried to stop them but they didn't stop in time. Managed to shoulder barge him and stay upright. Adrenaline kicked in and I just cycled off - probably should have checked to see if he was ok, but there were other people around and at that point I really didn't care.

Rubbish ride, but hey! Nice weather!

On the flip side, I had a nice ride yesterday. Had a chat with another cyclist, no wind, pleasant temperature, all good.

Commuting overall is fun but does have some frustrating days :D

People ruin everything.

Looking on the bright side (along with the weather), you have now put all those rubbish incidents into one day so they'll never happen again . . . at least not all on the same day.

It's a Law of Averages thing.

A bad day riding the bike is still better then a good day at work.

Very true! Looking forward to an incident free week :) yep a bad ride is also better than the best public transport commute too!

Stuck behind a smoke-belching bus? Pull over for about a minute.
Errant rider almost clips you? Grab his front brake as you go by.
Cabbie aggression? Purposely wobble your front wheel in their direction, make them think you're about to lose it, then loudly berate them when you get close.
Errant pedestrian? You handled it right.

Sorry, but for me, those things are pretty ordinary; getting threatened with a WEAPON, now, THAT makes for a lousy ride.

We had a couple of 70ish days here in NorCal and I took 1/2 off to ride. I had a lovely ride today, but I struggled with the grades. My thighs were burning after the ride. I didn't ride or use the gym enough in the last two months and I'm paying the price. But it was a great day to ride! And I was not at work.
