How long is your beard?

Saw this on Soma's Tumblr page:

LOL :) Although I have no beard and I build and fix my bikes. But funny nevertheless.

Thulsadoom 03-19-12 05:29 PM

(sigh) guess I'm just a rider. But wait!...I can fix a chain. Better stop trimming for awhile.

K'Tesh 03-19-12 05:32 PM

Mine is currently measured in microns or picometers... Shaved it off last year, and been doing so regularly since.

sci_femme 03-19-12 07:54 PM

I can fix my bike some and I am a chick.

Does that mean I need to rush to a beauty supply store for bunch of false eyelashes and glue them on my chin?

gerv 03-19-12 08:53 PM

I had to shave my beard. Kept getting caught in RD during adjustments... (ie, "move the adjuster screw out a hair!")

tonyjaja 03-19-12 08:56 PM

no beard, haha

Please do with pictures. =P

I laughed when I saw this, and it totally matches me for the time being.
I can solely ride and my beard is at said length. And just because of this thread, I will grow my beard out when I can fix things more fluently.

A guy on the steet yesterday told me I look like Jerry Garcia, and as it happens I have built several bikes from parts, so I think the picture is just about right for me.

That's not a beard.....that's a I didn't shave for a couple months. You need a few more drawings to get to me.......It would be down to my belt but I have to keep it short(mid chest) so it doesn't get caught in a mill or lathe and I get a face transplant.

sirtirithon 03-20-12 11:20 AM

Im honestly at the wizard stage lol been growing my beard out for 3 years now.

Leebo 03-20-12 11:23 AM

I thought those were 'bent riders.

SuncoastChad 03-20-12 11:24 AM

Currently #1...formerly #3. My avatar was taken on a cruise following a job interview - hence no beard!! :D

JeremyZ 03-20-12 11:24 AM

I'm just like the first guy.

Here's me (in the foreground)

I could probably do it all, if I wanted, but I have too many other hobbies and duties. So I just ride and fix the occasional flat.

doomtroll 03-20-12 11:29 AM

I just recently shaved off my beard

this is me a month ago .. about a month into my commuting daily

doomtroll, we have the same haircut too! (buzz with a "five-head")

I'm actually thinking of moving to San Jose too! (if my wife can score a job there in a couple years)

Telly 03-20-12 12:08 PM

Hmm... okay so what's a guy like me with a goatee? :roflmao2::roflmao2::roflmao2:

I moved here last May, from Central Kansas... was the best choice I have made... no more tornadoes, straight line winds, and extreme temperatures ... . so this has been wonderful living in a climate I can commute 365 days a year .. I hope you guys make it here...

modernjess 03-20-12 12:19 PM

I grow the beard during winter. How else can you expect to achieve beard-cicles? I'm pretty sure it's a local ordinance if you ride in the winter here beards are mandatory.

Growth starts the day we shift to standard time, the shave happens when we go back on daylights savings time in the spring.

Breathegood 03-20-12 12:22 PM

I guess my bike knowledge is also a function of the season. In the winter, I ride and can fix a chain. In summer, all I know how to do is ride. My wife won't let grow my beard to a more knowledgable state than fixing a chain.....and that's pushing it.

That's what I've been trying to tell people. I never intend to grow a beard, but I don't like shaving so in fall and winter I don't. I trimmed it a bit in December to keep my wife happy, so this is more or less what it looks like right now.

Number one is too young to be a 'bent rider. Number two could be if he's got an aerobelly. Three and four are too scruffy. They'd need extra faring for their hair.

Hey, my goatee is kept at clean 1/4" and I just changed out a broken rear derailleur cable this morning. Wheelbuilding, complete bike tear down and re-assemble are in my mad skillz. I've even got a TS-2 truing stand, Wag-3 dish tool and a complete collection of different colored cable tires. My goggles were purchased @ Home Depot and I buy ALL my bike related stuff on line.

This is one of the funniest posts I've seen in years on BF.
