Just easier on the palms on the grips. I find that when I ride without gloves my palms get red and sore. With gloves I am good.

If your bald, just make sure to wear a bandanna under your helmet. Or you might have an interesting "what I did this weekend" conversation at the office.

I'm not bald, yet, but have very short hair and head tan never crossed my mind and I rarely look at it in a mirror closely. Great one more thing to make me look silly. lol

I'm asking because this (the tan-lines issue) seems to bother you, and you're asking for advice.

I got a fitting with my bike, and had them order handlebars I really liked, sized appropriately for me, and I took a lot of care in where they're positioned with regard to the rest of the bike. Basically, I didn't want to be riding in a position that had too much of my body weight supported by my hands, because that would be uncomfortable for them. And I got really nice, cork bar tape, which is super comfortable to hold. I only wear gloves when it's cold enough to need them. Do as you please, but some combination of bit fitting and/or better grips may solve the problem for you. (It won't do anything about road rash if you crash and land on your palms, though.)

I just quit wearing gloves at all, cept in the winter. Sometimes, I don't even wear clothes!

Ya, no worries. I understood. I stopped by the LBS after doing some of my own adjustments for my comfort and they said all looked good. I have been wanting to get get new grips but just can't justify it if the gloves suffice and "mask" the "problem". Just to clarify, I would not say that the lines bother me per se. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious for a solution. That's all. I appreciate all the feedback though.

Gloves are not for warmth. They're safety gear. I'd rather not scrape my palms up in case of a crash.

I'm surprised you don't wear full body armor

Would solve my tanline issue though. Except for the grate where I would be looking out of.

Well..., I now know what to do for the tanlines and the protection in the event of a spill. Might even post this on the Concealed Weapons thread and see if this would suit their needs too.

Don't really worry about it... there are parts of me that just don't tan and I burn easily in those places so rarely go shirtless, do not wear my gloves nearly as often in the summer and am outside a great deal so my hands get a good tan to match my arms.

Legs seem to be perma-tanned now and I wear the same style of mtb shorts all summer and my swimming trunks are the same so there's no weird tan lines there.

My feet tend to glow... always wear short ankle socks and shoes and rarely wear sandals as my feet burn easily. On the bright side, I can't feel the left one so if it burns I can see it but it doesn't hurt.

Some folks think that when you live in the farther north that sunburn is not an issue but we are also at a higher altitude and can experience some rather high UV indexes... my wife comes here at Easter from Portland and has gotten a bit of a sunburn every time.

She is much fairer than I am and takes care to prevent sun damage to her skin... think she is going to look 35 forever while I am just a little more rugged looking from having spent a lifetime out of doors while she has pent her adult life in cooler climates and the pacific northwest.

if you ride enough miles, you tend to get tanned on only one side of your body. Can be a problem

Chip is right, you don't want road rash on a sunburn.

I should wear that when I go trail running. The last time I turned an ankle I was a bloody mess. And of course, still over a mile from my car.

I'm in south Florida, where the sun is more intense. I frequently use a sunscreen lotion on my face, ears, neck. Sometimes on my hands and arms too. Have to protect my skin. I try to avoid skin cancer, which is too common among the older generation.

I go to the tanning Salon. 15 minutes in the tanning bed balance everything out. Problem solve for now. I'll deal with Melanoma later. Live pretty while young, die ugly old.

A blog on the topic from my favorite meteorologist:

https://cliffmass.blogspot.com/2012/0...ening-sun.html

We get a really deceptive amount of sun here too.

You can't hide from the sun so deal with a nice tan line, they are not always that bad.
