Does this concept exist already?

Got no idea whether my idea already exists in a product/model that I haven't seen yet, but I want something like a jumbo version of a 'desk tray' to mount to the rack. Not the typical basket, though. I want:

-wire mesh, so that backpack straps and other loose items don't fall through.
-narrow lip
-actual mounting plates incorporated for rack lights. I want 2 of them, located on either side of the centerline, just inboard of the side.

If it exists already, post up a link. If it don't, feel free to give me 1% of gross for life and run with the concept.

Basically, I'm after a lighter weight version of my DIY 'pick up truck bed'...http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=245954

1/4" plywood would do the trick

I'd like one on the front of the bike, so I can use my laptop while riding.

But yes, I have seen this before mostly in the developing world on utility cycles

Though what they use and what you are talking about aren't exactly the same quality.

flat bed

go to home depot or lowes and get a piece of pexie glass drill some holes and put some I-bolts in and bungies and you are ready. If you live by a truckstop or you know of a truck driver look for some rubber rope it is what flat bedders use to tie their tarps down with and you can tie knots in them and criss cross them on your flat bed. I am an old trucker yep been there and done that.:)
