Here's this morning's commute, which is pretty average for me - 10.3 miles in 43 minutes. 14.3mph
http://app.strava.com/rides/8242016 If I could drop another 70lbs (currently @ 270lb), I'm sure that speed will increase. |
My personal best is an average speed of 24 mph on my commute home (includes descent). I absolutely hate biking slow. I don't get the attraction at all.

Don't know. Don't care. As long as I get there in reasonable time, I'm happy.

I like to go as fast as possible until the last second, then I screech to a stop. |

My morning ride in is slowish, and sometimes even on a bus/rack. I have no shower at work. The afternoon ride home is my workout ride, and I will sometimes even extend the distance. I have a shower waiting when I get home.

Without wind, 11 miles each way in just over 50 minutes = 13 mph. Moderately hilly.

I'm faster than feet, slower than a motor; I move at the speed of endorphins. |
I quit using a cycle computer about five years ago. I found that I was constantly looking at it and if my speed fell below 17mph, I would crank harder even when I did not feel like it. So I threw it out and now I enjoy my rides so much more. I ride at a good pace with good cadence but I just don't care about what my mph is.

I got passed on the way home yesterday in my jeans and computer bag strapped to my back - pissed me off. Worked my butt off to catch the guy, but I was able to catch and pass him before I got home:) (stupid competitive old man here)

Commuting speed varies from 20kph to 25kph (moving time only) depending on conditions. Distance varies from 12km to 15km depending on the route.
If I go for a training ride on one of our parkways where there's few stops or traffic lights I can add 5kph to that. |
My average speed can vary wildly. With a good deal of sand still on the roads I can't safely go full out on my commute route yet, especially when cornering. I was running late today and managed 29kph over 15.2km thanks in part to the wind, despite numerous red lights. I'm generally quite happy with 24-26kph. It takes a huge amount of effort for me to push my commute average up towards 30kph.

My average is around 15.5 mph for a 22 mile round trip commute. Usually 41 to 45 minutes each way. Total climb is approximately 500 feet with rolling hills (but mostly flat).

Normally takes me about 1 hr 30 to do 23 miles. Sometimes I push myself really hard and do it in... 1 hr 20. It's an odd journey. This morning I took it really easy, took me an hour 30... Av moving speed 15mph. This is on a ~38lb 1987 Bianchi Volpe.
If I average 15mph or higher on the entire commute, and it's nice weather, the stars are aligned and I didn't leave work late, i'll stop for a quick beer to rehydrate on the way home! |
