Where in Coastal Maine? I grew up in Wells.

BK = Burger King
APC = Armored Personnel Carrier

Did I win a prize?

I wish commuting were more hip. I ride with hipsters, engineers, professionals, unemployed, young people, old people, single people, married people, etc. We all seem to have a good time. Not all of them commute all the time, but many of them commute part time. The more the motorists of this city see bikes out on the roads, the safer it becomes for all of us. (even if they are running red lights)

I was joking actually. I can see the practical benefits of skinny jeans as long as they're not too tight. I find that rolling my jeans up works pretty well too.

Exactly. I bought those newfangled Levi's 511 Commuter jeans. I want to ride my 4.5 mile commute without having to change clothes or fussing. The pants work fine and I never have to worry about them getting caught in the chain. And no, I'm not a wannabe. Just being practical. Besides, if Levi's makes them this whole thing has gone mainstream, which is so unhip!

Because they wear those jeans for every day life and also ride a bike. Instead of having extra kit to change into every time they get on a bike. They just get on the bike and ride.

I wear "skinny" jeans because I am a skinny person and I feel they fit/look the best. I've also invested in nice pairs of jeans designed for cycling. Couple percent of spandex or similar material in the fabric. Allows the jeans to have a lot more stretch. They also have a higher back to avoid the dreaded crack! Reflective strip inside the pant leg so you can roll it up and be more reflective. Double gussetted crotch to keep them from bunching while on the seat etc... This way I can hope on a bike at anytime and be comfortable. Want to get dinner with friends 5miles away? Not a problem, no need to change into kit.

I'd be glad to see more people riding bikes, whoever they are -- serial killers and pedophiles excluded. I rarely ever see other bike commuters on my route. It wouldn't bother me if they were wearing skinny jeans, tweed, high-viz or racing kit. Just get out and ride.

If riding without lights, bright clothing or a helmet makes me hip I'm fine with not being cool.

Not sure about BK (really, Burger King can't be hip!) but of course I googled APC. Yikes, it's some French clothing store in NYC. And they call their pants "trousers". Reminds of that annoying AT&T commercial with the "actress" (for the PC: actor) whose line is "Latte please." Bravo, Alex, Bravo!

Sorry for being dead sexy on a bike... It's 2012 and we're still talking about fixters as if it was a new thing? Sorry to rehash old Bike Snob posts but I'm pretty sure the apex was during the 2008-2009 hipster season:

Haha, that would be horrifying. As a LCFer, I do my best to be a person on a bike, not a bike person.

But at least with tight jeans, you won't get your pant leg caught in the chain, and you don't have to commit any other fashion faux pas like stuffing your pant leg in your sock or wearing a goofy-looking strap or clip.

yes, but at least it only looks foolish while you are actually on the bike.........

Yes, it helps with being conformist and non conformist at the same time

I think it would look pretty foolish to walk around with a pantleg stuffed in my sock...

hence the "while on the bike". If people who sock stuff are walking around, its because they forgot to unstuff. Do hipster guys forget that they are wearing women's jeans?

I appreciate that hipsters look like they closed their eyes in a thrift shop and randomly purchased their wardrobe. It gives us conformists something to laugh at.

They never forget to steal their girlfriends jeans when heading out the door, never.

My thoughts exactly. This reminds me on when motorcycling became popular.

Believe it or not, you can actually buy skinny fit jeans for men. Levi's 510s.

I used to live with a bunch of hipsters, they didn't just wear their girlfriends jeans, they even wore their girlfriends underwear sometimes. :D

I think this thread is hilarious. The town I live in is an up and coming hipsterville and I hope it keeps up so the value of my house keeps going up! The more ironic chainring tattoos and PBR trucker hats the better. And when all of this has passed and the next generation has moved on to ultimate frisbee teams or lawn mower tattoos or whatever else the next fashion will be I'll still be riding my bike.

It's all right here... this sums up every scenester, including the fixed gear bike hipsters. I even found myself (sort of).

I'm just here to say woo! to Bike to Work week in Chicago.

FWIW, most of the commuters I meet do not appear as those in the video.
