I'm Looking For Compact, Stuffable Messenger Bag or Backpack

I just picked up a used Cannondale T700 and I don't want to start adding a bunch of bags and fenders and other items that will make it heavy. It has a rack on it that I can bungee my lock to and I have a NOS Cannondale handlebar bag that I'll put on it to carry keys, phone, etc.

Now, I would like to find a messenger bag or back pack that will store in a small stuff sack that I can carry with me and use if I stop by the grocery store. Timbuk2 used to make a Hidden Messenger bag but they are discontinued.

I have seen them on Ebay, but none are there at the moment. Does anyone here have something similar that works well and is still available?

It's a bit more expensive, but Mountain Hardwear used to sell a backpack called the scrambler. (Not the Scrambler 30 or anything else, just the scrambler). It it s lightweight bag that folds into it's top pocket. I use one everyday for my commutes. They discontinued them, but they are still available for somewhere around $50.

If you don't mind a backpack, the REI Flash 18 is pretty awesome. If you take out the foam back, it compacts down pretty well. It's also comfy as all get out. It's a bit heavier than Hidden Messenger at 10 ounces, or so, but you can shed some weight by removing the back pad and some of the extra straps.

Lemme get this right- you're wanting a bag that can be shoved into another, smaller bag... and then carry that in what? the bar bag? Your pocket? And I thought I had a bag fetish...

Howzabout a fanny pack that turns into a backpack? Then you won't have to weigh down your rig with that bar bag.

My GF has one of those, and it doesn't have the foam you mentioned. It's a nice pack, and holds more than you think it will. Last time I was at REI I noticed they sold a bag that stuffs into a pocket, and the Flash 18 wont do that.

How about a pannier that folds into a backpack that folds into a messenger bag that folds into a fanny pack that folds into a bar bag that you can fit in your pocket?

Long-distance motorcycle tourers may have what you want. Aerostich LP bag.

Now if that were a saddlebag that turned into a backpack we'd have a winner for sure.

I wonder how small that really folds up. Is it small enough that I could just leave it all the time in my saddle bag without it taking room needed for other things?

I'd like to toss out there the Tuck & Roll by a local company; YNot.

Awesome rolltop backpack that folds up into a neat little roll. Great company, products and price.

My Google-fu must be weak. Some of these are what I've been looking for but couldn't find.

There's an amazing amount of stuff in their catalog that could be used while bicycling.
