Friend is looking for a commuting bike

What do you guys think of this one? Are they asking too much at 200? I don't want to give bad advice to buy something she won't like. I know a lot of guys will say 'if it's worth 200 to her, then go for it'... looks like new Crossroads run from upper 300's to upper 500's on the internet. I'd really like to know what year this one is though... any help would be much appreciated!

Welcome To Bike Forums, Kev!

No matter what! That bike is well over ten years old. If it's chromoly steel, the age or amount of service time won't make any difference. However, if it's aluminum and it was used or ridden frequently for years, it's value should be seriously depreciated. That said, it could quite possibly have at least a few more years of service left. Therefore, I would take these considerations under advisement when purchasing. Find someone who is more knowledgeable about bikes. Have them inspect the bike, both before and after at least a twenty minute test ride. Offer $100, but bring $150 tops!

I can't advise about that specific bike, but if she doesn't get that one, I got lots of great recommendations for inexpensive commuter bikes in this thread:
