Finally, FINALLY! Back to the commute!

It has been years, (2007) since I last commuted to work. Back then I was hit by a truck, which medically didn't take me out the game, but did a psychological number on me and my family. My wife put her foot down and the commuter went up on the wall mount. I still rode, but only for arands around town and never as I did before in traffic...

Fast forward to the begining of last month and my taking a new job within in the same company at a site about a mile away from where I previously worked... A mile can make all the difference. The new site is about 1/4 mile from a nicely paved river bed bike trail that runs for about ten miles and spits me out less than a 1/2 mile from my house. It has been WONDERFUL.

I feel blessed and elated when I get out on that trail. In fact the fastest route to work by car is LONGER than the bike trail I ride to work. When you compare them side by side the time is almost the same.

The new work campus has given me a locker in the gym that I can keep my clothes and I purchased a Topeak expandable bag and rack. The Topeak has made the whole experience even more enjoyable. What an amazing piece of kit for dragging clean clothes in and dirty ones out!

Anyways, I am back again both on the trail and the forum. Glad to be here.

Welcome Back!

My commute is similar - except for about 1/2 km on either end, it's almost entirely on a paved MUP that follows the local river from the burbs into downtown, through a whole series of interconnected muncipal parkland.

Enjoy your ride(s) - they're often the best parts of my day!

That is so awesome! My wife gave birth to our son, and that derailed me for quite a few months. I am now starting back into commuting and loving it. Glad you are back at it and enjoy!

I have a beautiful 12 foot wide landscaped MUP from my house to work with only just enough people on it to make all the "Good Mornings" a real peasantry. The truck and rack just takes the chore out of the ride. Glad you found your way back.

Good for you and glad you're back. The first major crash can have a big impact, both physically and mentally - takes a while to get the confidence back while still being aware of your surroundings and the need for caution. By the way, have the same Topeak EXP bag with the expandable panniers that you do. Great product, very versatile and a good deal for the money indeed!

That it is. Right on. I am on the San Gabriel Mid River Trail daily now. Was just curious if you were one of the riders I would have seen. Guess not.

Happy riding.

I think at one point the coyote and san gabe merge. I ride the merged trail down to Westminster blvd.

I ride an extremely bright and loud orange Trek. I sometimes where a "T-Shirt Tux" jersey... I'm pretty hard to miss out there.
